Ohio opened Mid-American Conference play with an 87-55 win over Western Michigan Wednesday night at the Convocation Center. It was a game the Bobcats put away early as they opened up a 21-7 lead midway through the first half on the way to a 43-21 halftime edge. Ohio had a two-point lead with less than three minutes to play was unable to hold on as Kentucky posted a 71-63 win at U.S. Bank Arena Friday night. The 18th-ranked Wildcats (9-3) were led by Joe Crawford's 23 points. Ramel Bradley had 18 off the bench. The Bobcats (6-2) were led by Mychal Green's 16 points, all coming in the first half. Leon Williams recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards. Ohio begins MAC Wednesday night as it plays host to Western Michigan.

One of the surprises for Ohio basketball has been Whitney Davis' play off the bench. The junior from Ann Arbor, Michigan has seen his playing time increase to 24.3 minutes per game from just 9.4 a year ago. Not coincidentally, he's scoring 8.0 points per game after averaging 2.3 last season. Brandon Cotton's jumper as time expired bounced harmlessly off the rim and Ohio escaped with a 56-55 win over Detroit Thursday night at the Convocation Center. Cotton, who scored the Titans' last 13 points of the game, finished with a game-high 24 points.
