Ohio stifles Central Michigan 76-44

Ohio turned in one of the best defensive halves in college basketball history as it beat Central Michigan 76-44 Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center. The Bobcats allowed just seven points in the first half as they opened a 35-7 halftime lead. The seven points allowed were the lowest in NCAA Division-1 since 1973 when Tennessee held Temple to six points in a half.

Ohio bolted out to a 22-6 lead and never looked back on the way to a 75-63 win over Eastern Michigan Wednesday night in Ypsilanti. Sonny Troutman led the Bobcats (9-2, 3-0) with 19 points and Leon Williams chipped in with 14. Gino Smith had 18 points for the Eagles (3-8, 0-3). A 31-11 run over the last 13 minutes of the game helped Ohio to a 71-60 win over Ball St. Sunday afternoon at the Convocation Center. Leon Williams led Bobcat scorers with 13 points while the Cardinals' Skip Mills poured in a game-high 25 points. Ohio's ability to get to the free throw line proved to be the difference in the game. The Bobcats were 26-for-35 from the charity stripe while the Cards shot just 7 of 14.

Ohio opened Mid-American Conference play with an 87-55 win over Western Michigan Wednesday night at the Convocation Center. It was a game the Bobcats put away early as they opened up a 21-7 lead midway through the first half on the way to a 43-21 halftime edge. Ohio had a two-point lead with less than three minutes to play was unable to hold on as Kentucky posted a 71-63 win at U.S. Bank Arena Friday night. The junior from Ann Arbor, Michigan has seen his playing time increase to 24.3 minutes per game from just 9.4 a year ago. Ohio suffered its first loss of the year in a 86-58 drubbing at Cincinnati wednesday night. It was a tale of two halves for the Bobcats (4-1). Ohio used a 20-4 run to take a 5-point lead late in the first half. UC (5-2) rallied to take a 39-38 lead to the break.
