Brandon Cotton's jumper as time expired bounced harmlessly off the rim and Ohio escaped with a 56-55 win over Detroit Thursday night at the Convocation Center. Cotton, who scored the Titans' last 13 points of the game, finished with a game-high 24 points. The Bobcats were led in scoring by Jeremy Fears and Mychal Green who had 15 and 10 points respectively.
Jon Goode's 3-pointer gave Detroit (6-6) its only lead of the game at 24-23 going into halftime. Ohio (6-1) came out after the break on an 8-0 run to take a 31-24 lead with 16:23 left. The Bobcats still led by six after a Jeff Halbert three gave his team a 56-50 edge with 3:10 remaining. However, Ohio wouldn't score the rest of the way. Two free throw misses by Sonny Troutman with :16 to play set up Cotton's chance to win at the buzzer.
Ohio is now off until it faces Kentucky on December 30th. That 8 PM game at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati will be televised on ESPN2.
