Ohio beats BG 69-59, move to MAC Quarterfinals

Ohio beat Bowling Green 69-59 in the first round of the MAC Tournament Wednesday afternoon at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. With the game tied at 43 with 14:14 remaining, the Bobcats went on a 14-2 run to put away the Falcons. It was their third win over BG this season. Bubba Walther led all scorers with 19 points while Leon Williams and Jerome Tillman each recorded double-doubles. Ohio now faces Miami Thursday at 2 PM in a MAC Quarterfinals contest.

Ohio (16-9, 7-5 MAC) shot just 34% and didn't score from the field in the final 9:38 of the contest. Leon Williams had 21 points in the losing effort. Northern Illinois snapped Ohio's 14-game home winning streak with an 81-74 win Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center. The Huskies (6-17, 3-8 MAC) shot 59% from the field including 9-for-19 on 3-point attempts (47%). Meanwhile, the Bobcats had difficulty finding the hoop hitting just 37% of their shots and 22% (6-for-27) on threes. Leon Williams led Ohio with 18 points before fouling out. Northern was led by freshman Cody Yelder's 20 points.

Bubba Walther scored 10 points in overtime to lead Ohio to a 78-73 win over host Western Michigan Tuesday night. It was the Bobcats first win in Kalamazoo since 1999. Walther led Ohio (16-7, 7-3 MAC) with 20 points. Leon Williams and Jerome Tillman chipped in with 15 points apiece. David Kool topped the Broncos (10-13, 5-5) with 20 points.

A Whitney Davis lay-in with nine seconds left lifted Ohio to a 74-73 win at Central Michigan Saturday night. Davis' basket capped a comeback that saw the Bobcats rally back from a 66-56 deficit with 8:37 to go. Jerome Tillman led Ohio (15-7, 6-3 MAC) with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Leon Williams added 16 points. Eddie Spencer had a career night for the Chippewas (8-13, 3-6) hitting seven threes on the way to 29 points. Jiordan Watson chipped in with 21. The road win was Ohio's first in MAC play.
