Lincoln (IL) High School 2015 shooting guard has given a verbal commitment to Ohio Basketball. The 6-5, 185-pounder held offers from Northern Illinois and Bradley among several others. Block visited Ohio over the weekend and gave his commitment to new Ohio head coach Saul Phillips on Monday. He averaged 15.9 points and 5.7 rebounds as a junior for Lincoln.

Per his Twitter account, 2015 Newark High School combo guard Jordan Dartis has given a verbal commitment to Ohio. The 6-3, 180-pounder has a 3-star ranking from ESPN. Dartis is the first commitment to Ohio's 2015 class.

Coach Saul Phillips recently announced the addition of Chandler Thomas to the Ohio basketball recruiting class.

Thomas, a 6-6 power forward, is a transfer from Grambling State who has graduated and thus is eligible to play right away this upcoming season. He began his basketball career at UMBC and has two seasons of eligibility remaining, having played just one year at each of the two schools.

St. John's Northwest Military Academy shooting guard Ryan Taylor signed with Ohio today. The 6-5 Taylor played high school basketball at Michigan City HS in Indiana. He chose the Bobcats over late interest from Michigan, Butler, Rode Island, Rutgers and Wisconsin.

Ohio Basketball gets Houston transfer

Former Kettering Alter HS PG Jaaron Simmons will transfer to Ohio from the University of Houston. Simmons just completed his freshman campaign with the Cougars and will have 3 years of eligibility after sitting out the 2014-15 season. Last season for the Cougars, he played in 32 games averaging 11 minutes per contest. Simmons averaged 2 points per game while shooting 33.9% from the field.

Ohio now has 3 scholarships open for next season and could fill at least 1 more before the season starts.

Ohio Basketball has received a commitment from 2014 6'4" SG Mike Laster from Detroit Cass Tech High School. He had offers from Buffalo and BG among others. Laster becomes the 2nd member of Ohio's 2014 class. The Bobcats will probably look to fill two more scholarships prior to the 2014 season.

As originally reported by the Messenger's Jason Arkley, and now confirmed by the university, North Dakota St. coach Saul Phillips will be the next basketball coach at Ohio. The 41-year-old spent 7 season at NDSU where he compiled a 134-84 record. Phillips replaces Jim Christian who left for Boston College after two seasons at Ohio.
