Why do we have to rely on ONE beat reporter and student in a crane?
...perhaps because the Bobcat Showcase hasn't started (though they are tweeting), The Post isn't printing, NewsWatch isn't on 5 nights a week, the coaches radio show hasn't begun and the Athens News relies on students for its coverage and doesn't have a staff beat writer?

Have you watched Relentless?

Relentless is awesome, but it's not a replacement for daily updates and analysis.

As I'm sure you can tell, I'm totally on the outside looking in. I don't live in Athens, I don't know anyone (personally) that is affiliated with the athletic department or any of the news organizations in Athens. I was never in the j-school or t-comm so I don't know that world whatsoever. Which is part of the reason that I had no idea that Rob does his work out of pocket. If I had known that, then this thread would have been completely different.

I'm simply a consumer of Ohio football news and I'm passionate about the team. That's why I'm frustrated with the level of coverage I'm getting. Why is Arkley the only guy that goes to practice and scrimmages?

With two weeks to go until the start of the season, things are way too quiet.

As I said, we should really be criticizing Russ, not Rob. Russ is paid as a full-time employee and puts in far from full-time work. Rob volunteers much of his time and goes above-and-beyond the call of duty.

Russ has been looking to get out of Athens since the day he arrived, and it shows sometimes. He's sour that he's still here and isn't putting in the work we should expect from our #1 broadcaster.

Let's all hop back aboard the Bobcat Express!!!!

(or maybe let's just lay off the damn good team we have;  they may not be perfect, as none of us are, but considering where we've been...)

Whether Russ is looking elsewhere or not (and let me point out, he is a broadcaster, of course he wants to move onto bigger things, thats the way of the world), let me just say that I love, LOVE listening to him and Rob call Bobcat games! I'm a grad student in Buffalo, so I definately can't make it down to Athens for any but 1-2 home games a year, but in a lot of ways, listening in on the OHIO BOBCATS radio network (online) is the next best thing. For the toledo game last year I made the mistake of paying for the MACcess live video of the game. The production quality of that was so bad (and completely lacked commentary) that I turned it off at halftime and listened to Russ & Rob call the remainder of the game. Even when games are on ESPN3, and to a lesser extent ESPN2/U, the commentary and play-by-play on those games is nothing compared to the quality and excitment that comes from Russ and Rob (and our boys do it without talking about how Temple deserved to win MAC titles the past 2 seasons but for overlooking OHIO, etc).

All thats a long winded way of saying: Broadcast on Rob (and Russ)

+1

We are on the precipice of becoming a program that garners national attention...

Until that day arrives though and until it's sustainable, our program will continue to be in a positon that requires a diamond in the rough find in a lot of areas including but not limited to our broadcast team.  Honestly I'm grateful for the fact that their growth and fight for excellence has mirrored that of our coaching staff's.  These are the folks that got us where we are today and if you take an honest trip back down memory lane, you'll find we owe them much more gratitude than most of us express.

It shouldn't be seen as an insult that Russ wants to move on to a bigger stage, rather (when he leaves) we should thank him (much as we eventualy will with Coach Solich) for putting all that effort into building a rock solid foundation for the next guy to build on and for getting us to the point where our program and how it looks to the outside world actually matters!  Setting new expectations is invaluable...

Paul G-- I know that you're a #1 Bobcat fan so I do not question your loyalty here.  But you're way off base on this one.  And, being in a bad hole, you oughta stop digging.

Oldkatz--excellent Don C. reference.  He's also the man.

TVOTB and Rob C rule.  For me the only question is what game(s) will I be at this year and will TVOTB have time to make it a second annual Rebecca and I buy him a drink and will Rob C be available to join us this year.

I thought this was a thread about Cornelius Greene when I logged on!

Rob does an excellent job as the color man for the Bobcats and I enjoy his coverage.  As someone who volunteers his time with little or no pay other than basic expenses, Rob should be commended.

Surprised to hear that people are concerned about Russ not attending all of the practices.   Practices are really overrated!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGDBR2L5kzI

Ryan:  I wondered for years who Bob Haldeman was on this board.  Maybe you can start posting as "Deep Throat" from now on?

Was it true that QB Greene had a Lincoln and had the lettering on the trunk changed from Continental to Cornelius?  I heard that back in the day and also, if so, did Woody check out who got that Cool Cat the car?  Have statutes of limitations run out on this?  Come on all You Buckeye fans, Woody needs your help again, got his ass in a terrible jam way, up wonder in ..........

You gotta be kidding me...

For my money, Russ and Rob are one of the best broadcast teams in college athletics (being in the broadcasting myself, I listen to quite a few different teams throughout the season).

In my mind, one of the biggest steps to Ohio's athletic program advancing forward happened in 2008 when Russ, Rob, and Evan all came on board (correct me if I'm wrong... I know Rob did a lot of work with athletics prior to that, but I think that's when he started on a regular basis).  The progress Ohio athletics has made in content and professionalism in that time frame has been unreal.

To those three, I say keep up the excellent work.

Honest question: How many PBP guys go to practices and file regular reports?

And Paul, I feel like you're asking Rob to make this his life, which he's simply not in a position to do. Remember, it's a hobby for you and a job to guys like Russ and Rob. Also, Jason goes to practice because, again, it's his job. Pay other guys to do it and they will.

I'm in essential agreement with probably about 80 percent of Rob's political statements.  However, I'm not a fan of H.R. "Bob" Haldeman, even though he may be a distant cousin.  My dad always sarcastically referred to him as "Cousin Bob."  Why is it that it's generally OK on this board to make snide comments about someone's supposed right wing politics but the house comes down and it's an immediate trip to Siberia if the criticism comes from the opposite direction? In other words, political criticisms coming from the left usually take a lot longer to go to Siberia and are more tolerated by the mods until they get really outrageous.  For the record, I think we ought to have an "Overtime" forum on this board where heated political debate would be welcome, but the powers that be don't like the idea, so it's not about to happen anytime soon.  In the meantime, why don't we all agree not to discuss politics on this board or to make comments about another poster's political persuasion?  We are all Bobcats.  Let's share the love!

Now that I've said my piece, let me point out that Paul has basically said he's wrong and wants to drop the subject.  So let's all forgive and move on.

Why do people crash on the right?  Read what  Perry and Bachmann say and believe.  Reality and facts should be some part of the basis of one's political belief.  Gas will get to under $2 per gallon if she's elected?  Not sure that someone who believes that is capable of holding the office.

Didn't a certain someone's administration proudly trumpet that if their stimulus plan were passed into law, unemployment would peak at ~8.5%? "Not sure that someone who believes that is capable of holding the office"

Look, the President has had some bad luck and those damn ATM's and Airport Kiosks keeping taking away jobs!

You also have to remember that President Obama has seven extra states that he has to worry about.

Thank you for this thread.  I am now following someone on twitter incredibly close to me politically.  Him and I can now fight the commies together.

Also, since I'm the VP of the O Zone, an official paid position at Ohio University (not), should I also stop tweeting my distaste for our debt ridden, entitlement focused Federal government??  Because I'm not going to stop...  Don't tread on me.

More drilling in the U.S., conversion to cleaner burning natural gas for truck and auto fuel over a period of time, etc., will increase domestic production and reduce the price at the pump.  These are all parts of the positions of most GOP polticians.  In case you weren't aware, there have been major new oil and nat gas finds in the USA in the last few years, now all we need is the national will to recover these assets.
