Sorry, but I have to call out Rob Cornelius. Here are a couple things that are bothering me:

1.) In a time when the athletic department is strapped for cash, we need to get the most bang for our buck. Cornelius is completely invisible outside of the mandatory stuff like media day. No analysis on practice from him via twitter or anywhere else. He has tweeted BARELY A WORD about our team in the last few weeks. A less experienced (and more hungry) guy or gal would be clamoring to stay relevant year around.

2.) As a public facing employee representing our athletic department, I find it embarrassing to have him spouting his silly political views so publicly. He's clearly a smart guy, but unfortunately he embraces childish, partisan hackery. I'm sorry, but mixing us up in that via his twitter feed is not cool. I know he does this for a living, but he should have separate accounts or something.

I guess that's it. In general, I think I would prefer someone who ACTUALLY CARES about our team and will put in the effort even if they aren't on the clock. Arkley for instance busts his a$$...we basically need an Arkley with a good radio voice.

I should note that Rob does a top-notch job on the broadcasts. It just sucks that he clearly doesn't get excited about our team. Perhaps he would be better served fighting liberals full time.

PS - This place could be called a "Message Bored" (get it!!!) as of late. Hopefully this will get people going :)

You gotta love it when The Love thinks YOUR thread is controversial!

I might feel slightly bad if Rob read this but of course there is no chance of that because he probably never visits this site since he's NOT A FAN OF OUR TEAM.

Wow.  Well, seeing how Rob has been a member of BobcatAttack.com going back to the old T-Comm board days of the mid-90's, and posts here regularly...

And you do realize that Rob doesn't actually work for the University, right?  In fact, I'm pretty sure his only "pay" is his gas and hotel room/meals reimbursement.

Rob has a full time day job, and I'm not 100% certain, but I think it has to do with putting liberals in their place....uh oh; I might have to send myself to Siberia!

Wow, this sure is out of left field!!

Rob has always been a big-time Bobcats supporter. He posts and lurks on here regularly under the name of a famous political figure from the Watergate scandal. He spends more hours devoted to Ohio Athletics than I'm sure most of us on the board do.

This criticism is completely unfounded. While I'm sure he'd love to hang out at practice, he has to support himself with his day job. Compared to other color analysts we've had, he's way more knowledgeable and supportive. C'mon, give the guy a break!

I was actually glad the thread was started about Rob. After reading the title I was concerned we were looking at a Yukon Cornelius discussion. At least this pertains to the board's theme.

Is Rob on campus just on game days and a few media events? Anyone know the story of how  he became our color analyst?  I think he has good chemistry with Russ.

The key phrase being "pretty sure". I'm expected to believe that Russ does this full time and Rob doesn't even get PAID to do basically the same job?! Come on, that doesn't make sense.

Hmm, I'd be curious to know his frequency of posts.

Given his status within the department and his connections, I find it hard to believe he has so much on his plate that he can't find time to tweet about the team or do something. I'm a busy man too and the 2011-2012 Bobcats is all I can think about!!!

Since we have a "laboratory" (a call back to the athletic department video) for young budding journalists and this is supposedly an unpaid position (though I don't believe it)...maybe we should just have a student do it. Someone that isn't busy with a 9-5 job.

Then maybe I would get some more content and not have to post crap like this on a friday night to have something to talk about!

This basically boils down to me having an insatiable appetite for Bobcat football right now...and Cornelius is giving me nothing. And hasn't given me ANYTHING in the two years I've followed him on twitter.

MY DEMAND: Provide me more content Cornelius, or hand over your post to someone that (a) lives in Athens and (b) will put in the time and effort.

Totally uncalled for criticism.  Rob is not an Ohio University employee and gets paid very, very little for his work.  My understanding is that rather than an increase of any sort last year, the department gave his mother a season ticket and parking pass.

I believe that is on the money. I've been told he gets about $1,500 a year plus travel expenses. Russ, on the other hand, is making at least $40,000. And from what I've heard, Russ is in the office about one day a month (no joke!). Perhaps we should really be asking more of him....

Most ridiculous post I've ever read, and that's saying something on this board!. Rob is the best color man in the league, and it isn't even close... He's paid next to nothing, if anything at all... Don't really care if you believe it or not, that's the truth... What he tweets on his PERSONAL twitter account is his own damn business...

You're out of line on this one Paul... I'm sure you won't admit it, but you're so off-base it isn't even funny. I wish every fan loved Ohio as much as Rob does...

You would prefer a student to take over, just so he can tweet? That's crazy... A student wouldn't provide HALF the insight dutiful a game that Rob does. His recollection of Ohio history is astounding to say the least...

Rob, ignore this thread.... We LOVE what you bring to the table, and I hope you're involved with Ohio radio for as long as you want to be...

I guess it must be true based on everyone thinking that's the case. Sort of makes my grumbling seem pretty silly huh?

Athens Block wrote:expand_more

Not really. He is a broadcaster for our football and basketball teams. If Russ is the "voice" then Rob is the "brain". I don't want to know what our "brain" thinks about politics!

It's coming...

OK, forget this thread ever existed. Based on what I've learned here it would seem that this thread should be titled "Pay Rob Cornelius More Money". I was thinking he made at least 30K or more and if so, I thought I should hear more about his opinion on our team and less about his politics.

This wouldn't have happened if the season would just start for god's sake.

We're watching you, homeless guy on Court. St. with a fiddle.

Sorry, but I've got to call out the homeless guy with a fiddle that hung out at night on Court St in the 90s. Here are a couple of things that are bothering me-

1.) Every weekend when me and my friends stumble by you on the way to the Greenery we stop and ask you if you know 'Devil Went Down to Georgia', but you NEVER bother to learn how to play it. Why?

2.) as a street performer don't you think its important to learn at least one song, evven if its not the one requested every night. You can't just sit there and act like you're tuning up untill its 3am every weekend.

I guess that's it. In general, I think I would prefer someone who ACTUALLY CARES about playing the fiddle for pocket change from a bunch of rude, broke college kds. Steve Zarate actually learned entire songs on his guitar and he would play for you while you ordered from the burrito bugy. Zarate for instance busts his a$$...we basically need a Zarate that can play a fidldle.

I should note that homeless fiddle guy does a top-notch job of being homeless. It just sucks that he clearly doesn't get excited about covering Charlie Daniels. Perhaps he would be better served playing bluegrass full time.

PS- this might be the most ignorant thread I've eer seen.

My, my, what a mess.

My two cents:

Agree with all above -- Rob is a bang-up guy, does a great job on the broadcasts, and is about as passionate an alum about Bobcat sports as you'll find.

If the tweets aren't what you are looking for, why have you actively sought them out?  Why must someone's personal account be all about their work?  It isn't as if his handle is @robcOHIOBOBCATSFOOTBALL!!!11, and he isn't asking listeners to the broadcasts to follow him for updates -- both instances that *might* warrant the irrational irritation on your part.

Now, who really needs to step it up is this @Bobcat_LOVE character.  I've learned squat about glue sales.

And what about @johngroce?  Only 1 tweet in the last month??  What could he possibly be occupying his time with?

I've been friends with Rob since I was a freshman, which is now running on 14 years. On top of that, he and I couldn't be more different politically. Trust me, I'm to the left of Bernie Sanders. That said, this criticism is beyond ridiculous. The guy's a pro's pro and cares more about OU than 3/4 of the people on this board. He puts in the work, too, believe me. Just because you think he tweets too much about some Republican dumbasses doesn't mean he's doing OU a disservice and giving his poorly paying side job short shrift. It's not like he's in the police blotter every week, which is what a real black eye for a program looks like. Move along to something more important, please.

Nobody thought my Yukon Cornelius mention was funny? Come on folks. Brilliant stuff and with only 4 beers in me.
All we are doing here is blowing Rob's head up, I haven't heard this much good will expressed about one member of the Ohio football community since Chad Brinker. Hopefully the results of the second scrimmage allows us to move onward and upward and away from Rob C's tweets or lack of tweets.

First read this thread title, and i instantly thought of Yukon Cornelius as well.  You're not alone.  I read through the Original Post and will just say no comment.  I think Rob is great at what he does, his football and basketball knowledge are a great asset to both programs and help Russ and the broadcast team.  Rob C is definitely underpaid.  And now before I leave, I need to let my inner-MH55 out.

(And after posting a picture, I can confirm, Yes, it is dumb to do so.)

First off, I am affronted!  NEVER criticize his work on Soul Train because he's a musical talent genius............what's that?   Sorry.............. wrong Cornelius

Rob and I go back quite a ways and we vary widely on politics so we simply don't get into that arena.  Partisan crap aside, he is an exemplary broadcaster. He is impeccably prepared for all the gigs and has been doing OU sports for a long time, since he was a student here, in fact
He has no reason to be a daily beat reporter and that is not what the contract calls for.

Also, I have never question why his girlfriend gave me his Village People leather motorcycle cap........or why he had even had it.

I laughed.

Also, I have to point out in a relatively short time we've gone from complains about Twitter's existence to complaints about not enough Twitter.

You simply can't expect Rob to give a steady stream of observations because he doesn't live close to Athens. He moonlights as an announcer and has another gig as his main deal. His Twitter account has nothing to do with his role as a Bobcat announcer. He gives more of his free time than anyone to Bobcat athletics.

All I'm saying is, if I was Rob or Russ (more Russ because he actually gets paid) then I would have been at ONE of the scrimmages and would have managed to get my views out to the Bobcat faithful. When I came down from Chicago for a bachelor party, I went to practice for a couple of hours! Is it so hard?

That may not be in their job description, but when you're passionate about something you go above and beyond what is asked of you. Obviously Rob doesn't get paid, so ANYTHING he does is above and beyond, which I suppose makes him immune to any criticism, <sigh>

I can guarantee you that when OSU has a scrimmage there are probably a hundred dudes (paid and unpaid) giving their take on it via twitter, blogs, etc...

Why do we have to rely on ONE beat reporter and student in a crane?

Is it too much to ask the people we pay to mirror my own enthusiasm about our team?

...perhaps because the Bobcat Showcase hasn't started (though they are tweeting), The Post isn't printing, NewsWatch isn't on 5 nights a week, the coaches radio show hasn't begun and the Athens News relies on students for its coverage and doesn't have a staff beat writer?

Have you watched Relentless?
