Doesn’t Nevada also only have one win over FBS teams with a winning record?
They do, over San Diego State. At first blush this game looks fairly even, slight nod to Nevada maybe.

We are a 6.5 point favorite
Wow, Vegas likes the way the Bobcats looked to close out the year. And looking at the rest of the MAC bowl lineup, the trend of us being the only team with bowl success may continue...

On paper this should be a win - we're playing a team that got beat by Toledo, finished 3rd in the weaker division of their conference, got beat by 71 by Oregon and 49 by Hawai'i.

Their season has been a bit opposite to ours. They're 5-1 in one-possession games while we're 2-4. They're better in the clutch.

Anyone have any inside info or tips on cheap flights to Boise? Is Boise the best airport to fly into? It's looking like it's gonna be $600-$700 round trip. Does that sound about right? I was hoping for cheaper.

I haven’t found anything cheaper yet. I was looking out of Akron and Hopkins.

The cheapest I found was out of Cincy so far...There's like a 12 hour layover though in Vegas.

Those prices are lower then I was seeing from Newark.
They were in the high $700's

Plus,Boise is a perfect example of "you can't get there from here".
Depending on the flight you get to layover in Denver or Chicago.

That could cost more than the flight if you’re not careful

You might look into Salt Lake City - 5 hour drive from there. Salt lake is a Delta fortress hub so I’m not sure that would be cheap either

ESPN's prediction:

Ohio wasn't far away from a much better season than its record indicated, going 2-5 in games decided by 10 points or fewer. Nathan Rourke is a talented dual-threat quarterback who should be able to have success against Nevada's defense. Nevada coach Jay Norvell did a good job getting his team to seven wins, but the Wolf Pack are really banged up and limited on both sides of the ball. Frank Solich wins his third straight bowl game.

Prediction: Ohio 28, Nevada 17

Nevada was 4-4 in conference play and got whipped by Oregon in non-league play to end up 7-5. I'm guessing they won all the games they were supposed to win except for the loss to in state rival UNLV. The Bobcats will need to play well and limit the turnovers if they are to win this game. It won't be easy. Nevada won their bowl game last season to finish 8-5.

Ohio couldn't win the very worst division in the FBS, so I don't know why anyone is feeling cocky going into a bowl game. If Nevada even brings a few thousand fans, they'll outnumber Ohio fans by 10x, and factoring in the distance this is effectively a true road game. Maybe that's a good thing given how this team performed at Peden this season.

This could be a fun game if it's a shootout. Ohio's defense is awful and Nevada is only ranked a bit higher in total defense, so if either team struggles to move the ball they'll be in trouble fast.

You know, the defense wasn't all that bad for most of the season. Not even counting BG and Akron, the defense held five other teams under 25 pts, but Ohio was only 3-2 in those games. The big problem with the defense was shutting down the opposition late in the game. Four of the six losses came when opponents scored on their last drive of the game.

This is pretty much where I'm at too. Our defense scares the you-know-what out of me. I put no stock in the D's performance against Akron-that is literally the worst team in the FBS. If we're hanging our hats on the fact that we limited Akron to 3 points, well.....

I don't think Nevada has any idea what's in store for it in this one. On paper, Ohio is 6-6, but was only 11 combined points away from a 10-2 record as 4 of Ohio's 6 losses were by 2, 3, 3 and 3 points. In addition, the Pitt game was only decided by 10. Ohio's offense is head and shoulders better than Nevada's and its note even close, and that will be the difference in the game. The defenses and special teams are in the same ballpark between the two teams, but Nevada doesn't have anywhere near the offense to keep pace with Ohio. It's going to be another repeat performance for Ohio vs a Mountain West school in a bowl game again. Ohio will jump all over Nevada just like it did vs San Diego State last year. I'm not calling for another shutout, but when Ohio gets Nevada down by double digits early, they'll never recover and the Bobcats will cruise to an easy win.

Ohio holding Nevada to 17 points would be shocking. Absolutely shocking.

This isn't the defense from a year ago that you could see getting better as they drew towards season's end ... that eventually shut out San Diego St.

This defense got the luxury of facing BG and Akron to end the year .... and BG went up and down the field with ease in the 1st quarter of that game.

If Ohio wins ... I'm guessing it'll look more like 34-31 or something like that.

I'd be very surprised if Ohio covered the touchdown. They've been pretty awful all year ATS.

No kidding. Funny, because Ohio was also 2 points from being 5-7 and not bowl eligible.

Throw in the shootout over Kent that could've went the other way and the monsoon-induced win at Ball ... Ohio wasn't too far from 3-9.

Then again, this is same Cat who proclaimed it was a foregone conclusion Ohio was East Champs ... the games were simply a formality.

So there's that ...

I would be more negative nancy if not for the fact Ohio shutout SDSU last year one of the most talented MWC teams. There is not really a reason for Nevada to beat us. Think about 6 weeks to rest up for this one.

I remember San Diego state had lost 4 in a row going into that game. They seemed pretty disinterested. It was still fun to watch us stuff them.

After reading this synopsis, I am trying to figure out how OHIO is not playing on NYD.

When was the last Ohio football game in January?
Maybe the 2006/2007 GMAC Bowl against Southern Miss in Mobile? I remember it was on a Sunday night and pretty sure it was in January.

Yes it was and a good time was had by all. Hard to believe we got to play golf twice that weekend of rain and somehow stayed dry on the golf course.
