I think the mask and other restrictions are similar to smoking restrictions. Second-hand smoke is known to give non-smokers lung cancer and other pulmonary problems. It's sort of like the transmission of a virus. As states have instituted smoking restrictions over the years, the rate of new lung cancers in the U.S. has steadily declined, from about 70 per 100,000 people in 1999 to about 55 per 100,000 in 2017. Smokers have less freedom now in order to protect the health of non-smokers. If they want to smoke at restaurants and other businesses they need to go outside to a designated area (such as a loading dock). So it makes sense that people who aren't vaccinated should be more inconvenienced than those who choose to be vaccinated.

Yesterday they announced that as of May 19,NY,NJ and Conn. will remove pretty much all capacity restrictions for indoor and outdoor venues.

One limiting factor will be keeping in place the 6' Social Distancing requirement.

After the announcement, one of the local radio stations had a story that
the CDC is considering changing the 6' SD to follow the World Health Organization's 1 meter.

That would be a game changer when it comes to places like stadiums

Yesterday New York announced that there will be "vaccinated/non-vaccinated" sections at Yankee Stadium and City Field.

Vaccinated sections will be 100% capacity.
Non-vaccinated sections will be 33% to maintain SD.

For now, masks will still be required in all sections.

All of this talk leads me back to my question and concern posted at the beginning of this thread: how likely is it going to be to have anti-vaxxers using counterfeit vaccine passports?

Oh for Pete’s sake! Just make the entire stadium vaccinated only (or an actual, notarized!, doctor’s note explaining why the person in question should not be vaccinated for medical reasons)

I'd probably agree with this. What's the point of having two separate sections unless the concessions and everything else in the ballpark is split up as well?

I think it recognizes that at least half of the fan base probably won't get vaccinated for whatever reason (religious, allergies, f*cking stupidity, etc.). Making the whole stadium vaccinated-only would cut the size of their potential market by half. I'm sure if NASCAR had vaccinated-only sections, they'd be empty.

One of the many conspiracy theories circulated by anti-vaxxers is that the vaccine contains computer chips that let the government track us. Actually, that would make it easier for sporting events, movie theaters, etc. to have vaxxed-only crowds. They could just run us through a chip reader. No need for documentation.

Why not separate sections but 100% capacity for both the vaccinated sections and the non-vaccinated ones? And then let Darwinism do its thing?

I see Ohio is going to have a five week lottery, with a prize of $1 million per week, for vaccinated Ohioans.

Details are coming out next week, but I hope they're including those of us who are good citizens and true patriots who got the shots without bribery.

From reading what you Governor said, it sounds like it applies to any Ohioan who is/was vaccinated.

Trying to figure out how fast I can establish Ohio residency. :-)

They mentioned in one article that "younger residents" will be entered into a drawing for a 4 year scholarship for any of Ohio's state colleges, including tuition, room and board.

Wonder if the prizes will be "tax free" ?

I like the retroactive part as my wife, daughter and I are all vaccinated. Any my 14 year old will be in the near future. Feeling lucky.

I just heard on the radio that the lottery will use Ohio's voter registration.

They pull a name and check it against vaccination records.

You're vaccinated,you win.
If not, they go to another name.
BUT
Not before the State of Ohio sends you a letter saying "oh,by the way . . ."

DeWine is taking a lot of flak for his million-dollar giveaway, but it's probably going to be more effective than the Six Flags tickets they're giving away in Illinois.

I can't say I would give the money back if I win (I totally won't), and I don't know if it's a bad idea, but it's sad that this type of thing might be what persuades people to get their vaccine. But I'm not surprised. I mean this is a country where people have to be told not to fill grocery bags with gasoline, gave trump an an electoral college victory, sent a woman to congress who believes in jewish space lasers. We are so fu**ed. America has on the smallest and largest scale, prioritized firepower over brains for a very long time.

I would love to be one of the lucky winners.

And if I'm not? Then I would love to see the person randomly drawn from the Ohio Secretary of State’s publicly available voter registration database to be someone who has not been vaccinated and for that name to be made public. Can you imagine this person's reaction?

This should put the “vaccinated-only sections “ arguments or extremely limited capacities to rest. There’s no benefit to segregating fans other than to shame the anti-vaxers. Finally, some logical thinking:

“ The C.D.C. director offers a stark reassurance: Only unvaccinated people are at risk by unmasking.”

“ If you are vaccinated, we are saying you are safe, you can take up your mask and you are not at risk of severe disease or hospitalization from Covid-19,” the C.D.C. director, Dr. Rochelle P. Walensky, said on “Fox News Sunday.” ”

“ the C.D.C.’s new bottom line is that individuals could make their own choices”

While watching bits of an NBA game this weekend (I think it was from Golden State; Stephen Curry is fun to watch) I noticed a completely full section surrounded by partially populated sections. At first I thought this to be odd after over a year of watching games in empty stadiums/arenas or ones that were mostly empty before realizing this was a section for vaccinated fans.

But that's a pretty fun benefit. I'm still on the fence.

How about this option. Open the stadium to full capacity and if you have not been vaccinated and come to the game, catch Covid and die, it’s your own darnn fault and you have no one to blame but yourself. It’s time to start living again! I’ve been vaccinated btw.

And if you have not been vaccinated and that causes someone else's death (or illness, long term illness issues, etc., etc.)?

Maybe a "Vaccinated, Mitigation Protocol" section/s, and "Wild West/Libertarian/Anti-Science" section/s.....

Personally I’m all for vaccinations and I wear a mask. Also I had Covid back in January and like the massively overwhelming majority came through it just fine. However I’m tired of accommodating people that have not been vaccinated by limiting what I am allowed or not allowed to do. Put the unvaccinated people in a corner end zone for all I care. People have a choice whether or not to attend a football game so if someone attends and contracts Covid it was their choice. I pray there aren’t long term consequences but we have to get back to “normal” life again. It’s time to open up.
