As you folks know, HS band day is not just an Ohio decision. It's coordinated with a lot of bands and their schedules. Maybe the concern is that COVID may shut down HS bands as the season wears on so they wanted to get it in early? I'm just glad we're able to have it at all.

bobcat110 or another former member would know for sure.

But as I recall Band Day was usually the first home game of the season.

Interesting 2 deep. Obviously Keye is still out and Jeremiah Wood is hurt? Kai as a backup? The best thing about lack of media coverage is being totally surprised by a few things on the two deep. Hopefully none of the guys missing for Saturday will miss significant time.

Band Day used to be in November until ESPN midweek games happened, then it was moved to first home game. The university likes the 2nd home game as parents weekend because that gives more time to Freshmen to “cut the cord” from move in day. I guess it’s not a big deal when Ohio plays Texas State or Hampton, but can understand why it’s unpopular for Syracuse. I don’t think the 110 members are big fans of band day, but most of the participating bands have 110 alums directing them and it’s a huge recruiting tool and help fill seats for the opening game which normally is against an uninteresting opponent.

Another game with hard to fill seats? A Tuesday night (or Friday morning) in November. That would be perfect for (the waste that is) HS Band Day

Yeah. HS bands traveling a couple hours to Athens for an 8pm game on a school night or on Thanksgiving holiday aren’t likely solutions. I’m sure when Ohio Football is actually selling out Peden, the university will make a change.

You know what else will piss BA off? When 1/2 the students leave after halftime to go uptown. Syracuse is a nice home game. But having a power 5 team once every 5-7 years isn’t going to just flip the Ohio Football experience.

I like Band Day. I have a good memory of high school marching band and getting to go to Miami's. Seeing Roethlisberger vs Josh Cribbs for free was cool, but I also remember lots of my classmates who had never been to their campus commenting on how nice it was and how good of a football atmosphere it was back then.

I don't think the home opener is the necessary time to do it. There's usually a home conference game in October other than Homecoming and that would be a decent time for an attendance boost. Perhaps since non-conference games are known so far out in advance, it allows for better planning than if it's a conference game?

Was thinking the same thing re: no media coverage...

I was surprised Kai was listed as backup but on the other-hand there was an article earlier this summer that predicted McCracken would start at NT and a couple posters have said to expect lots of PT for Mathews... I'm excited about our interior defensive line depth. It's going to be very hard for the opposing team to wear down a rotation of McCraken/Mathews/Kai/Burks/Daxon/Middlebrook. Hopefully this depth bodes well for our run defense.

Let me be clear: I’d happily eliminate HS Band Day entirely! Failing that, relegate it to the least desirable, coldest, least attended game of the year

Quick question?

Which side of the field will the Ohio team stand? The side with the Tower or the other side?

Changed last year! Ohio will be on the press box side. Syracuse on the student side right in front of the Syracuse fans

Aside from an absolute shellacking by either team, I don't think any outcome would surprise me. I have no idea what to expect. Under Solich, I feel like we've done well against bad P5 teams, so maybe that carries over some. Hope I'm wrong but I'll say Syracuse wins 27-23. Attendance 21,944.
Please show some faith. Albin has these boys ready for war. The Bobcats will run the Orange out of Athens with the townies nipping at their heels.
No chance the game is this heavily attended though unfortunately.

I’m definitely guilty of not reading emails. My only forms of communication are bobcatattack and smoke signals.

I can understand them changing it last year with no fans, but wasn’t there some MAC rule about opposing benches not being by the students?

Thanks, the seating charts still show the old way.

Anyway, anybody walking by Section 13...ask for TexanMark. I'll be sitting in the 4th row by the concourse.

Agree re the interior DL depth. If they can rotate in two or three sets of guys that should really help

OHIO 35
Syracuse 3

Late FG spoils shutout. Defense shines. Daxon looks like second coming of Khalil Mack.
I’d say OHIO 31
Orange Dudes 24

Jackson leads in pancakes.
Daxon clogs the middle.
Jett with INT.
Rourke throws 3 TDs.
Rogers runs one in.
I like this scenario!

Although he has a losing record overall at Syracuse, Dino is 3-0 at G5 teams (UConn 31-24 in 2016, WMU 55-42 in 2018, Liberty 24-0 in 2019), so there's cause for concern. Plus he's familiar with our system from his time at BG, beating us badly twice, so unless Albin does something different you might be right.

I think it comes down to our O line controlling the game, our defense pressuring the QB and forcing turnovers, and maybe biggest of all, our kicking game. I doubt we can win a high-scoring game, so keep them under 30 and we should be ok.
What I hope the Bobcats dont do is give the ball game away-that is one of the worst feelings, to be competitive but give it away on self-inflicted wounds. When Western Michigan played the Orange a few years back, that is what happened. WMU had all the tools to win that game but a few unforced turnovers really killed them.

I'm really excited to see how the OU LBs perform. The depth chart lists the starters as Houston, Cannon Blauser, and Johnson. These guys got the physical skills, including very good speed, but they are on the inexperienced side.

A name like 'Cannon' is a great football name and has to become a household name...

What we get from RT is also going to be key. Being the most inexperienced and youngest member of the line, you figure syaracuse will throw some stuff his way to see if he can handle it. Ohio might help him there a bit though with TEs or in other ways.

I think TEs Adam and/or Ryan Luehrman are gonna show out vs syracuse, in blocking and pass receptions.

He was pretty highly recruited out of high school. 15 scholarship offers including... Syracuse.

If you like the 110 then you should love Band Day. Band Day is traditionally the first home game of the year and you know how colleges love tradition. Back in the day Band Day would guarantee people in the stands and it was usually before the quarter commenced. It is a good recruiting tool for the 110 and the university. Many of these high schoolers have never seen a college band. Think they are impressed by the 110? Those of you that think it's a waste of time are very short sighted and not very deep thinkers in believing Bobcat Football is all about the football. Haters know less about the bands and music than they do football, and that's not much. Look for me screaming and hollering, enjoying every minute of the total football experience, bands, cheerleaders, dance teams and even football, win or lose, for the umpteenth year. I will let the big wheels at OU make the decisions on what they will put in front of me year to year and I will merely watch and enjoy. See you all tomorrow? Probably not. Maybe a few of you will be there. The rest merely complain about everything and support nothing.

Considering where many if not most of these bands are coming from, I'm really surprised we're going ahead with this.
