Now I'm not going to deny that Athens has a beautiful campus, but there are people that appreciate architectural beauty as well. It doesn't have to be nature always.
Agreed. People chose Ohio and Ohio State for very different reasons.
right, like the ones who want to learn how to spell 'choose' correctly go to tOSU, and those that are content with spelling it 'chose' and
not understanding the difference are fine with going to OU
Actually, both are correct depending on what verb tense you're using - "chose" if past tense, "choose" if present. Understand the difference, foreverbuckeye?
(Now, I could be wrong. If so, please understand that I have a degree from both The Ohio University and an o$u)
actually, if I must, I will explain this, although first I must admit, several of the responses to my last really long rant were very mature and made me feel as though you understood where I was coming from (but from the other side) and understood that I was frustrated, and believe it or not, those responses have really helped to make me chill a little bit.
I understand that I am not the first to come in here and talk smack, but I guess the difference was that I was not doing it to necessarily be a jerk, but more so out of frustration...actually, I will openly admit that I was immature, and for that I apologize to those with your good (even though in opposition) responses...
that being said, because of the way this sentence is written, it can only be 'choose' that is correct and not 'chose' - explanation? because if you use the word 'chose' in this sentence, it changes the meaning...using the past tense means that it is not still happening anymore...aka, the schools are no longer up and running or taking in new classes. If you use the present tense of this, 'choose,' then it means what was intended...
People choose Ohio and Ohio State for different reasons. --> this means that it is still happening, and it covers people who have made the decision in the past, present, and will in the future...
People chose Ohio and Ohio State for different reasons --> it implies 'while these schools were still accepting students, people chose...'
It is a minor detail, but that is the difference in this particular example. Sorry, I could apologize for the rest, but when I know that I am right (professional writer/journalist) with something that has to do with grammar, I have a REALLY hard time letting it go...haha.
Thanks for putting up with me, and you won't hear me admit this to the jerk OU fans, but you have an amazingly beautiful campus down there in Athens...and it's even prettier than Miami...don't tell my sister that I said that...
