Greetings Bobcat fans! I'm really excited, as many Troy fans are, that we are playing Ohio in New Orleans! It will be a great game. Do you know yet if you'll be bringing your marching band?

Welcome to all the Troy fans who have already posted on here!  Should be fun for both fan bases to get pumped up for this game.  Good matchup.  Looking forward to learning more about Troy in the days ahead.

Troy has gotten a lot of TV time in the past several years...I've seen them several times.  Also saw a couple of games when you played Marshall.

Hey GoTroyTrojans.com,

What do you think of the idea of flying into Baton Rouge or Gulfport and staying in a town betweem either of these ciies and NO?  It might be much cheaper to fly into either and staying away from NO might also be cheaper.

Being that NOLA is a major airport, IMO your costs are going to offset by flying into a smaller airport and then having to drive the 2hrs or so into NOLA. You stay out of the city if you DONT want to take in the night life, Bourbon Street, Jackson Square, Cafe Du Monde etc. I would in no way suggest you stay out of the city unless you just really think you should. Staying at the team hotel affords you the ability to park and then walk everywhere. We even walked to the dome a few years ago. If you've never been to New Orleans you MUST stay in the city.

Troy4ever--Yes, the Ohio Marching 110 will be busing down for the event and since I have two in the storied group, the house was a buzz of excitement this afternoon.  They were both on the web checking out the Troy Marching Band sight and messaging with their fellow members about how exciting it will be to spend a little time in New Orleans.

We are 1win 1 loss when playing TU's this season and I might mention that the win came against the TU in red so look out!!

Our football team, coaches, athletic department and administration really kocked it out of the park. Thanks to all of them for their tireless efforts. We are bowling in New Orleans!!!

That's great news! I can't wait to see the Ohio Marching 110 perform. Having seen the BGSU and CMU bands I'd say that the MAC has some great bands.

By the way, I am a member of the Troy University Sound of the South Marching Band. Here's a clip of our Fanfare that we perform at every halftime show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjPk0aZfEQ4

Figures.  Finally a bowl game I would travel to, and I can't.  My sister (Miami grad) is screwing everything up and getting married in Chicago that Saturday.  Damnit...

I have 100 people coming to my house for our annual Christmas party that night.  I'm still unsure if I will be there to host or not.  I never miss a big Ohio Bobcat event, but this one may be it.

Checking the stats is good fun.

Troy is a power on offense but giving up 418 yds/game on D (vs 333 for our boys).

Troy last in pass defense (248/game). However, you never know if that has more to do with late game situations or the youth they have in the secondary.

The average 33/game and we give up 22/game.

Our secondary has struggled all year with youth, injuries, guys qutting, etc. They have played better the last two games and have a knack for creating turnovers at opportune times.

Looks like a pretty even match-up. Wish I could be there but I am looking forward to the game.

To those who are going......Travel safe and make sure to get some beignets and chickory coffee from Cafe DuMonde

TrojanEmpire and folks of Troy, congrats on winning your conference this season.

What would be your estimate of how many Trojans you'll be packing into the Super Dome?

btw, just discovered that an old Bobcat grad's wife is a Trojan--there cannot be too many of that combination around!!

Should be a good game...Its not a sexy BCS conference opponent, but I'm happy with it.  I would expect Troy to be favored by a touchdown or so.  If the team that played Kent shows up, we will get destroyed.  Anything else and it should be a great game.  We gotta finally get this monkey off our backs.

and just how much deeper into debt will our athletic department sink after this little excursion?  sorry to be a wet blanket, but the only folks who seem to make money off these bowls are the bowls themselves...and yeah, I've heard the "free exposure" argument.  don't buy it.

I would expect us to bring anywhere from 9,000 - 12,000. The last trip to New Orleans had a little more spice to it with us being matched up against Southern Miss. I think we brought closer to 15k to that game.
How many people do you think will make he trip from Ohio?

Yes, teams lose money on bowl games.  Pretty much every team, every bowl game.  So either you play the game (in every sense of that statement) or stay home.

I was "hoping" we get 1,500-2,000.  The game is a week from Saturday and the week before Christmas.  I doubt many people were anticipating this trip and already have commitments next weekend.

The Mobile game was after New Years and on a Sunday night with over a month to plan for.  Plus, it was a little more "sexy" because it was first bowl in almost 40 years, first MAC east division championship, and Mobile was open arms for the Bowl participants.

As the fourth best MAC team, laying an egg against Kent in the last game, and this game a far distance behind the Sugar Bowl for New Orleans, only the die-hard Ohio fans will likely move their schedules to get to this game.

Hope I'm wrong.

Unless there is an influx of dormant Bobcat fans living in the south, I don't think there will even be 1,000 Bobcats in attendance.  But there will be lots watching on ESPN.

Taken as a "one out" game, teams often spend more cash than they take in via a bowl game - especially if there is a ticket requirement, or tickets are used as part of the compensation.  However, the value of playing in a game (exposure, practice time, recruiting statement, etc.) must be factored.  Additionally, many schools set aside funds to be applied to the overall cost of a bowl; should their team make it.  Further complicating the issue is that the participating teams share the money with other teams in their conference (so yes, Temple is getting bowl money).  Due to the  ambiguity of the situation, one must place quotes around words such as  “lose” and "cost.”  Our AD is hoping/confident we will break even - we'll need to wait and see if that is a  straight ledger sheet analysis.  To me, it is an investment and well worth it.
