What picture is that exactly? You people blow me away. You are supposedly fans. But heaven forbid a fellow fan lose patience with your team when they turn in a horrible performance. You don't get equally upset with the team, you lose your cool over your own fellow fan losing HIS cool. Get real.

This team is bad. It was bad against Kent. It was horrid against Troy. Be willing to call a spade a spade. Get off the fence.

Just as the football team painted a picture of themselves.

Giving up 600+ yards is something people should be PO'ed about.

Are you happy with a 48-21 thrashing against Troy?

None of us are happy with this team right now, but that doesn't mean we are "done pulling for this team." Through hard times and bad we still stand up and cheer for our Ohio Bobcats.

Here's the deal: if this team can't start turning in better performances, it will continue to struggle building a real fan base. Yes they'll always have the die hards, but they will absolutely NEVER get the casual fan--the very fan they NEED to get to turn around our horrible fan support. My contemporaries--the students of the 80s--probably didn't even know we were in a bowl game tonight. And if they find out we got our ass kicked, they'll chuckle and say "sounds like OU."

So you can pollyanna all night long, but the fact of the matter is, this team is beyond needing success. Not middling success. Real, measurable success: MAC Champs, Bowl winners... something. Hell I'd accept being legitimate bowl competitors.

On the light side.  I should have expected more disappointment.

My son is a senior in the 110.  He is in the National Guard.  He had non-commissioned officer training that started after Thanksgiving and ended Friday.  On Wednesday on a mission he's carrying the M-60 machine gun and his feet go out from under him and the full weight of the gun falls on his mouth splitting his lip and chipping teeth.  It makes it hard to blow a horn with a non functioning mouth!

His flight from Akron-Canton on Friday (his own $300 to join his mates in NO) is late taking off and when he gets to Detroit on Delta and sprints to the next gait, arriving 6 minutes before the scheduled flight they tell him the doors are shut and the flight is full.  He endures a 9 hour layover and misses all the fun of a Friday in NO with the other students arriving at about 2am at the hotel.

Who would have guessed it would get even worse!  But didn't that food look awesome on the tube? Undoubtedly the best city in America to go to a bowl.

Thanks for his duty on all fronts.  I'm sure he's not ready to give up on his mates.

Once again football manages to come up small in a big game, for the who-knows-how-many-times dropping a chance to make a mark on a big stage and to get the casual OHIO person excited.

Anyone who thinks #5 is a D1 qb at this point is not very smart.  So, way to go, Ohio coaches.  And, no, he can't run--unless there's an opening.  He hasn't shown any particular break tackle power or shiftiness or lightning acceleration..

Defense?  We have no playmakers.  No d-lineman makes plays or gets qb pressure.  That may be our scheme (which I doubt) but it aint working.  If the front four are there to contain/to occupy the oppo's o-line, then where are the resulting plays for loss from our secondary.

Offense?  We don't have many playmakers.  Well, we don't use 'em much, don't throw down field often enough.  Our scheme?  See the above posters about what we don't use (jet sweep etc) and how we don't change what we're doing.  From now on, no game against a MAC team which is under .500 means anything.  TIme for the O-line to show up against a good defense.  As one of the TV 'nouncers said, when there's lots of pressure from their d-ends, where are the shovel passes to running backs up the middle and the screens (espec in the middle).  We need a new O-coordinator.    Are we ever freaking going to try the hurry up or get out of the pistol or run two back sets or get Jordan Thompson more than 20 catches in 13 games?

Today was an abomination and an embarrassment.

I saw almost every game live this year.  Ohio did not have a great year.  We beat most of the teams we should have and none of the teams we shouldn't have.  We certainly did not finish well.   I think calling this team great is way off base.  Dropping "f bombs" is even more crazy than calling this team great.  You are either upset or completely insane.

Agree with Monroe on this.  Sorry, but we made Troy look like a super-power on the football field.  Even the defeat at tOSU was'nt this bad.  Losing to Can't was hard to take.  Tonight we basically proved to the world that we are a pathetic team.  Any hope of a positive with the casual Ohio fan went down the tube in grand fashion.  We suffered a smackdown on both national tv and national radio.  Way to go!  As for next year, with #5 at qb we stand no chance.  Actually, if the coaching staff continues to offer up the same crap, we stand no chance.  As for Troy being a great team, they barely got by either BGSU or ULL.  Sorry, but they, like us, are a terrible team playing in a joke of a conference.

Maybe we should play a tougher schedule. Right, Love? We shouldn't be playing the likes of Troy. They're chicken shit. We should be playing Virginia Tech. Then we'd be for real.

Let us keep in mind, that while we can argue that we play a schedule that is too easy, it used to be US that made others schedules easy. We used to be the Eastern Michigan or the Akron on everybody's schedule. Yeah, I'm upset about what happened last night. It was disheartening and it is disheartening that we have to wait 8 1/2 months until we see the Bobcats suit up again to play football. But this program has made great strides since Coach Solich got here. And can we really help our schedule? Most of the weaker MAC teams are in our own division. These aren't teams we can get off our schedule. It's just how things are right now. It's out of our control.

Number of Robert Fox posts since his declaration that he was done with Ohio Football:  At least 6 in this string alone.

Give up Robert.  You are not done with Ohio football.  You are a big time loyal fan.  You aren't going anywhere.  Just like the rest of us.

Unfortunately, that's true 69. My blind rage forced my halftime post.

Now, it's like I have to make up with my wife. I have to reflect on my outrage and admit I overreacted. The problem is, I'm still angry about this team. We can talk about how this team is getting better, how they've improved so much since the dark days, that building a competitor takes time. But we also see teams like Miami jump from 1-11 to MAC Champs in ONE season.

Championships always take a little luck. OU seems to chase away luck.

Anyone who thinks that Phil Bates is our best option at QB in 2011 is nuts.   He has had plenty of time to show his skills this year.  He isn't a QB.

Bates CAN run.  Maybe convert him to a Josh Cribbs type of player, WR/RB/wildBOBcat hybrid...Who else can play QB other than Tettleton?

Bates can't run, he can't pass at all and if our eggs are in his basket next year you can forget about this team.
I for one hope we don't get a bowl invite for a long time because it's terrible looking like this joke in front of a national audience.

Chill out Bobcats, and think where this program has been before the past 6 years or so.  We are now contending for conference championships in FOOTBALL!  WE have actually been to bowl games!  We have an indoor facility on the way!   Come on Bobcats, STAND UP AND CHEER!    Have a drink, look at the game tapes for what we can learn.....then move forward!!!!

You weren't the only unhappy Bobcat by a long shot.  I was fielding calls from my BCS alum buddies at halftime who were just letting me have it.  Including some Uconn fans -- you know, the BCS Bowl team that lost to the Temple team we beat.  I just had to sit there and let them give me a hard time.  Uhg....

I'm just really happy we were able to get those 12 or so extra practices in. They are really going to help our preparation for next year.

When I fist saw this  post, I would have sworn someone brought back an old thread from 2005, and I expected to find that it was by "Green Jinx".  Then I remembered that the old posts have been lost, so that wasn't it, but I also remembered that Jinx has since returned to the fold, and in 2005 wasn't really done with the team. I'm sure he's not happy with last night's performance, nor is anyone else, though.

What returned him to the fold was seeing steady progress from 2005 to now, plus the realization that a single dismal performance has not been the defining moment of the program. In fact, I doubt anyone remembers what poor performance incited his original post "I'm done with this team"; I know I have long since forgotten whatever game that was, and in time I will forget the loss to Troy, too.. Instead, what I will continue to remember is the Pitt win, the comeback at Illinois, the thrashing AE delivered to NIU, the Temple wins last year and this, plus all those wins against  Miami, and so much more...

After licking wounds for a few days, it's time for people to refocus on things like recruiting and Basketball, or 2011. Note that in itself is a change - it used to be that the focus changed well before the end of the season. In the meantime, Ohio's 2011 recruiting class looks like it will be the best class Solich has had at Ohio by a significant margin. That in turn means that the program will continue to make incremental progress into the future. Note that while we think Ohio should win the MAC every year, recruiting pundits have never been that excited about Ohio's classes, so that means that whatever accomplishments Ohio has made on the field has been made with less than the league's best talent. You can win sometimes with recruiting. You can win sometimes with player development. Get both together, and now you have something special.

Some years ago I predicted Ohio would be undefeated in 2011. I stand by that forecast, though I have some concerns about the QB position. If those can be resolved, 2011 could be the season that Bobcat fans have been waiting for for a long time.
