When I fist saw this post, I would have sworn someone brought back an old thread from 2005, and I expected to find that it was by "Green Jinx". Then I remembered that the old posts have been lost, so that wasn't it, but I also remembered that Jinx has since returned to the fold, and in 2005 wasn't really done with the team. I'm sure he's not happy with last night's performance, nor is anyone else, though.
What returned him to the fold was seeing steady progress from 2005 to now, plus the realization that a single dismal performance has not been the defining moment of the program. In fact, I doubt anyone remembers what poor performance incited his original post "I'm done with this team"; I know I have long since forgotten whatever game that was, and in time I will forget the loss to Troy, too.. Instead, what I will continue to remember is the Pitt win, the comeback at Illinois, the thrashing AE delivered to NIU, the Temple wins last year and this, plus all those wins against Miami, and so much more...
After licking wounds for a few days, it's time for people to refocus on things like recruiting and Basketball, or 2011. Note that in itself is a change - it used to be that the focus changed well before the end of the season. In the meantime, Ohio's 2011 recruiting class looks like it will be the best class Solich has had at Ohio by a significant margin. That in turn means that the program will continue to make incremental progress into the future. Note that while we think Ohio should win the MAC every year, recruiting pundits have never been that excited about Ohio's classes, so that means that whatever accomplishments Ohio has made on the field has been made with less than the league's best talent. You can win sometimes with recruiting. You can win sometimes with player development. Get both together, and now you have something special.
Some years ago I predicted Ohio would be undefeated in 2011. I stand by that forecast, though I have some concerns about the QB position. If those can be resolved, 2011 could be the season that Bobcat fans have been waiting for for a long time.
