And Monroe didn't think Twitter was useful.  It's all 'bout the Bobcat Surplus!

RT @jacorrigan14: "What kind of stuff will be on sale?" Shirts, sweats, travel jackets, footwear, jerseys, uniforms, footballs, equipment...

Guys...Huge favor to ask...

I was planning to roll the family down to Athens for the Spring Game this year but my Son had a Lacrosse Tournament scheduled in Notre Dame that weekend.

If anyone is able to pick up a football for me (don't know if they all have the Bobcat logo imprinted or if those are just game balls but that's what I'm after) I'd be more than happy to pay that generous soul a "handeling fee"!

No problem, I will be there bright and early, heck I might even inflate the football for ya (I noticed they sold them deflated 2 years ago)

270? I hope that's an exaggeration. He weighed in at 233 for Spring practice, supposedly. If he is really 6-3, 270 he is the same height and weight as Mark Smith, on the offensive line. Maybe he could be that Fullback that Monroe is always looking for, creating the possibility of a Fullback pass-option.

Not sure what Robacks speed is at ..looks like when he runs he's spinning the wheels but not sure if he is going anywhere to fast at 270...I see another position in his future. Kyle Synder throws a GREAT ball as does Tyler..I think the wild card in this is Phil Bates who seems to not be doing anything this Spring due to a surgery.

Tagging onto B36's post above, I can't make it to the surplus sale,  but would love to have a women's soccer jersey if they are available. I'd also be glad to pay a "handling fee" if someone would grab one for me. PM me if you are game.

Thanks!

The receiving tight end position was eliminated for this season out of the need for blocking support on the O line.  Olyaie had shoulder surgery this past winter and will not be returning to the team for his senior year.  He will graduate this spring and move on to obtain his masters degree.

I wonder how much speed Roback still has with his increased size....seems like a waste of talent as simply a blocker.....can't believe Jordan Thompson will just block.

If Roback still has some quicks he'd also be a decent linebacker.

so an All-MAC tight end will be totally eliminated from the passing game? Alert MAC defensive coordinators game planning just got a lot easier. Thompson isn't running routes now. Should we expect a jersey number switch? Qb's best friend is a tight end. I guess in this new scheme that will apply only to the TE protecting his blind side.

Sorry to be sarcastic but I am assuming we may see a ball or two swung to our wide tackles (tight ends) this season.

With the beef we have on the O Line, we need the tight end for blocking support? If that is the case, I think I may be a little too excited about our prospects this season....unless we're installing some newfangled never-before-seen offense featuring the Annexation of Puerto Rico as our bread and butter play, or we don't have a lead blocking fullba...oh wait that's right.

But seriously, how much value is a no-huddle offense if a pass to the tight end isn't a possibility? It just seems like you're limiting the potential personnel mismatches, which other than fatiguing the defense is the whole point of a no-huddle offense.

Maybe they were talking about the TE's blocking first and then peeling off into a route? Sort of a level your man then get to open space in the flat tactic? I don't know, I'm just speculating....

If that is true, I think it's being misinterpreted. Tight ends are always going to be a passing option to some extent. It's just a matter of one injured player didn't come back because he was considered more of a receiver than a blocker. Already having Thompson, any second tight end to ever see the field probably would be almost exclusively a blocker. I don't think anything has changed much.

You are right, the receiving "first" tight end position was eliminated, the blocking "first" tight end position still remains.  Throwing to the tight end is always an option, but remote.  Last year, there was only one, maybe two plays all game called to throw to the tight end... the rest were a result of a broken play/no receiver open.  I agree, not throwing to the tight end is a travesty, but very few offenses now use the tight end as a receiver.  It is a thing of the past and has been faded out.  No disrespect to the abilities of the "receiving" tight end player, just a change in the times.  No need to have a receiving "first" tight end position if there are no plays called for him.  It's just a business, after all.  Give the scholarship to another position.

On many plays the TE is a secondary receiver, so they will always need to be able to catch the ball. That said, there is a reason why you see less plays with the TE as a primary receiver. I suspect most plays where the TE is a primary receiver have traditionally been play action. TE's are normally covered by linebackers, and play action freezes the linebackers, allowing the TE an opportunity. When running option offenses, play-action passes to the TE are especially effective. By contrast, when you are taking a long snap, freezing the linebackers with play action isn't really going to be that effective, so you aren't going to be seeing those plays. That leaves TE's as a blocker/outlet receiver, primarily.

He didnt make it through spring ball..hopefully he will take off as a TE he has some tools..just not sure how he wants to use them. On another note RB Erick Howard 2-time Mr Ohio Football has signed a national letter of intent with Butler Community College in kansas word is Ohio Coaches will be keeping an eye on him. Butler is a great program they routinely turn guys into div 1 starters

Corch Albin commented today (ohiobacts.com) about Tetts and Snyder never having taken a live (college) snap under center.  Are we running some 'qb under center' sets?  I like this, at least occasionally, as it gets our rb's (two or more?!) closer to the line of scrimmage--quicker hitting.

Also, there's got to be a way to use Thompson and Roback as twin tight ends in the running game and in the passing game.  Too much talent.  I like.

I formation has the TB at 7 yards! The pistole has the TB at 7 yards! So what is your point? Isn't 7 yards really seven yards?

Probably quite a bit of a difference in the time it takes in hitting the hole.  In the "I" the back could start moving at the snap with the QB under center vs. when in the Pistol the back would have to wait until the QB received the snap and then start to move.

Monroe, I read coach Albin's comments to mean their experience, including high school, has been exclusively shotgun. Short yardage might be Bates territory, which would get the ball to a power back with only one exchange from center. Finally, Roback acknowledges he still needs lots of work on blocking. I expect other TEs on the roster and our JUCO recruit would play ahead of him for a good while until he learns blocking. Blocking assignments and techniques take a while to pick up. He will also need to get stronger. I would expect QBs and TEs to lift differently. Glad to have him, but, I am ready to wait for him to learn.

Smart move on Roback's part, first to put his ego aside and recognize that he was not going to make it as a quarterback, and second, to put himself in a position that he can grow into and become an impact player with 4 years to develop his skills.  He has the potential to become an outstanding tight end.
