According to today's Messenger, this guy also had a bag of pot on him when he was arrested.  He also had some pills but the report said he had a prescription for those.  This was all in the police logs not a sports section story.

Sigh....  Its hard out here for a fan.

Classy that a 6'5" 245lb football player can beat the crap out of a girl.....

Toss his ass out of school too. I don't want my degree tarnished by this clown.

Maybe she provoked him (at least that's what the defense will maintain).

I wish I still had some of that confidence that allows young men to charge recklessly into one stupid situation after another.  Perhaps coach/university number 3 will be able to get through to this kid regarding wasted opportunities.

He was originally at Indiana in 2008, and redshirted:
http://iuhoosiers.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/kozak_kyle...
I don't know why he transferred,  After he sits out a year with this next transfer, he'll maybe get to play one year in college. If the facts turn out to be anything close to those in this thread, he may get to spend some of the year that he sits out in jail.

Perhaps these dudes should have to undergo some kind of psychiatric evaluation before we sign them. My inside info tells me that this guy is obviously unstable.

WOUB story says he has been dismissed from the team, as I think most expected. It's a tough blow to graduate the entire starting line, have a transfer come in and get three sacks in the spring game and then get kicked off the team before even making it to summer camp.

IF Frank kicked him off the team and that was Franks decision, then yes he did the right thing. Frank has been a solid in his discipline, tough when needed and fair and always fair. The guy has class. In my opinion.

The "if" was in regards to if Frank pulled the trigger, not if the young man was gone. I do find the article kind of bush-league to note the kid had pills on him legally, why is that news?

Oooh the "if" game - now its okay to play the "if" game. Don't speculate.  Wait until it plays out, but then play the "if" game.

Okay - "if" Frank pulled the trigger he did the right thing.  Agree.  And like others I think it is probably/hopefully safe that he did pull the trigger.  Because, "if" after being presented with the facts Frank still did not pull the trigger  --  and a third party felt it appropriate to step in and pull the trigger  --   then Frank has no credibility and should be gone.  Be careful with the "if" game - it also means there is a "then" game.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but Arkley's article is SO well written. You guys should subscribe to the Mess while we still have him!

Key Quote: "Kozak, however, was already walking on thin ice with the program before this latest incident. Though unable to play after transferring, Kozak was eligible to practice with the team last season. But he was suspended from the team late in the 2010 season following an in-practice fight with teammates."

Don't want to stick up for him, but maybe she's 6-6 and 250.

He apparently had some problems early on at IU too:
http://collegefootball.about.com/b/2008/08/28/more-troubl...

Apparently he left there because of lack of playing time:
http://iufan24.blogspot.com/2009/10/2-hoosiers-leave-prog...

First Bassett, now him.  Gotta look out for that IU connection.

Let's hope he gets help and straightens out his life.

I hate to turn things back to on-field issues but what happens now at de? Clearly Kozak was going to be counted on to play a ton or maybe start. Depth at de is already questionable. Any possible position swaps from the other side of the football or any tackles possibly moving to end? Or possibly will a true frosh have to play big minutes?

I'm ready to be crucified over this suggestion, but....what about Roback? We're loaded at TE, and the dude has the size and speed needed for DE.

What about the newbies?  One reason for the excitement around this year's recruiting class was the load of D linemen.

Antwan Crutchfield was one of the higher rated players to commit to a MAC school this past recruiting season, so I think it could be a definite possibility that he is forced into action right away. It seems to me he'll probably be a DT, though. Maybe Andrew Bennett will get some DE time. Other DL incoming freshmen are Tony Davis, Justin Haser, Eric Price and Brandon Purdum. Brad Spivey enters after one JUCO year with three years of eligibility remaining. Lots of new options.

The "Kozak hole" ......sounds like a quantum physics theory.....would be for an outside player on the DL who can apply some pressure.  Crutcher is an inside player and should give us quality depth at nosetackle or defensive tackle.  Of the other ones Haser played inside at the Big 33 game and at 260 plus and growing that seems to be his destiny.  Spivey may get the first shot because of his age and experience......and I think Bennett and Davis and Price can rush the passer.....even though Purdum played a bunch of OL in high school he still may have a shot since he's a relentless kind of player.

Disappointing to lose Kozak.....not jump off of Richland Avenue bridge material.

In a group of 110 male athletes, there is going to be someone that gets into trouble now and then. Focusing solely on the few that do get into trouble causes people to forget the 100+ that do pass their courses, and do avoid conflict with the law. The numbers will be smaller for sports like basketball, not so much because the athletes are better behaved, but because there are less of them. When you have something like this, you boot him off the team, and move on. It's a shame that someone with his apparent ability squanders his chance, but it happens.

In the meantime, there are enough people that hopefully someone will step up and play. I have no idea if it will be an existing DE, a new recruit, or perhaps someone converting from TE or MLB. At this point, I'll just remain confident that the coaching staff has a plan, and not get too concerned. A year ago suppose someone told you that the Bobcats would lose Brazill, Moore, and Keller? Most would not have projected as good a season as the Bobcats had, I think. Well, however good Kozak may have been, he's gone, and other players will have to step up.
