I appreciate talk about the actual game, but as others have mentioned, I think the talk of Marshall's defensive line being substantially better than Ohio's offensive line is off the mark. It will be a match-up of strenngth vs. strength. The Bobcats have returned all five starters (plus a great blocking tight end and basically all their back-ups) to the offensive line from last year. If I had to name the Bobcats' No. 1 strength, it would be the offensive line. There was some pressure on the QB in the last game but Gardner-Webb was blitzing nearly every play (and Ohio's receivers had a lot of one-on-one coverages that they started taking advantage of in the second quarter).

Also, speed is a major asset of the defense. I have to think Ohio's secondary has as much speed as almost any team in the country. The corners have been timed around 4.4 in the 40. Of course, there are some young players there, and they obviously lack in some other areas. The linebackers are all quick, although not huge, and the defensive ends have adequate speed. I think the DTs for their size are pretty quick. Solich has said a number of times this is the fastest team he's had at OU.

I think the fact that some of best attributes of both teams will be going up against each other will make this game interesting. I'm also eager for the Bobcats to face a real test. It was hard to measure performance the first two games that both saw most of the starters exit in the third quarter.

Turnovers definitely are a concern. The Bobcats fumbled three times against Garnder-Webb, and of course, Marshall has done well at causing turnovers. I really think the teams are pretty even, so it's a matter of game planning, executing and hopefully taking advantage of the home field for the Bobcats.

Think momentum.  If one team gets too much pressure or too many turnovers early, that team is going to struggle.  My favorite kind of football...huge emotional ups and downs.  Lets just hope that this "good on good" matchup, and make no mistake, that's what it is, doesn't result in both teams taking a bunch of injuries.

You're an underdog on the road, so to say this game will not be close is a pretty bold statement.  But you're entitled to be biased and wrong.

Can anyone name a single player from OU that has been any good in the NFL?    Nope, terrible program, terrible team, has been coach......Herd 34 - OU 20

You're about to play a true team (Something you don't see a lot of in Huntington) and a deep one at that.  One that's strong in all 3 phases of the game.  You show your ignorance when you insinuate that college football program success is about single players.

You started Spring Camp with 42 players...42...You have zero depth...Blind fan optimism won't get it done Saturday.

"Has been Coach"...That's just silly...

Bobcat take off your Ohio U glasses.  Southern Miss, which we beat last Saturday, is better than any other team on your schedule.  We have more than enough depth on both sides of the ball to beat you.  Best of luck Saturday!!

Oh, the powerhouse Southern Miss... that marquee two point beatdown over Louisiana Tech is really something!  Gosh, and La. Tech's overtime win against Central Arkansas proves that was a quality win!  Yes, I would hang my hat on beating the Southern Miss... wait... what are they called again?

The last time Marshall won more games in a season than Ohio, Frank Solich wasn't yet our head coach...

You do realize Southern Miss played La Tech. in a tropical storm right??   You can pretty much throw it all out the window when the wind is blowing 40mph....

Clearly both teams were not playing in the same conditions, then?

Just be aware that this is a far, far better line than in those years. The starters are good, and the backups may be better, so the future looks bright.

Yeah, I remember when it was easy to win 8 games in the MAC too.

Both teams do play in the same conditions, however if you know anything about football or have ever played, then you know playing in crappy weather (especially rain and wind) brings the level of the game down.   It generally makes for closer, uglier football games...

I agree with most of your points.  I think Vinny Curry is an absolute stud based on what I've seen.  I'll disagree with you on special teams.  I'll take Matt Weller over Tyler Warner every day (and Tyler is a Parkersburg kid).  I would have taken our return team over Marshall until the Cabell County judicial system allowed yours to go free this past week.  I'd say return men is a tie now.

It's the damn Cabell County judicial system's fault he was in there in the first place.

Word is Noah Keller is OUT for this game...a win is what we want and can achieve but in the big scheme of things Noah needs to rest his hammy and get healthy for MAC PLAY...just something I heard today from some players nothing official of course.

to the rational Herd fans I say 'welcome, looking forward to the game and best of luck'. I enjoy the conversation and I hope this game continues to be exciting every year. Its good for the schools and its good for the region.

Now for the couple of pin heads that make rediculous claims that make it sound like the '95 Cowboys are about to play Athens Middle School let me say- Thanks you x1000!!

There's nothing funnier than watching Herd fans try to talk like they are so above the MAC, its obvious they are just trying to convince themselves, more than anyone else. Its hard to face realty- the MAC years were your glory days. Only one winning season since joining CUSA (you're welcome), every away game is in another time zone (let's car pool to El Paso!) and you got clobbered by a really bad Bowling Green just last year. but keep telling yourselves you're so much better than everyone, if it helps get you through the night. And congratulations on moving to a better conference, I'm sure going 5-7 in CUSA is much more satisfying than going 13-0 in the MAC and being ranked in the top 10 in the nation. How embarrassing that must have been, to have all that national attention but be in such a terrible conference, with away games in driving distance and all.

Back to the game- I know who I'm rooting for but I have no idea who I would bet on. It's going to be a good one, wish I could be there. Go luck Herd, GO OHIO!

We need to be better on special teams and to stop with the turnovers.

Keller not playing would be a big aid to stupd cow.

I don't know who'll win.  I can pretty much guarantee that predictions that stupd cow will pick up an easy W are off target.

I espec love the predictions based on teams/players from years ago and who has the most guys in the NFL.  Yeah, those guys will be on the field on Saturday.

As usual, a representative stupd cow group here:  some very nice people and a very much disproportionately high number of idiots.

And the idiots, you can be sure, will not be back here post game if the Bobcats win.  Because that would require grace.

And I'll bet you four and seven cents that Keller plays on Saturday.
