I'm probably one of the few on here that has traveled to both Colorado Springs and Annapolis

and I bet I'm one of the few that have been to CS, Annapolis, Athens and walked across the Karlov Most with a fresh pilsner and a "]["emple sweatshirt on and guess what....

You would crawl out of the MAC if you could. We just might. Don't hate cause we;re in a position you want to be in...

No doubt Ohio would love to be in the Big East. No doubt Ohio would love to have Temple's basketball program.

But it doesn't mean we as fans should be happy the Temple program used the conference as a Little Giant step ladder for two years because Rick Chryst had gummy worms for brains.

The marriage never had a honeymoon. And all of us MAC fans wanted a pre-nup: bring basketball, too. Make them pay if they leave quickly.

Chryst did none of those things.

Sure, we'd love to have the promise of a major media market at the doorstep. But that's not what Ohio is. That's not what the MAC is. So why did Temple go here in the first place?

Temple needed the MAC to patch up its image. The MAC didn't need Temple. Now Temple will leave and the entire strategy of bringing in UMass is a disaster.

The MAC changed course and didn't solidify in a half-cocked plan of breaking into the eastern market. Now it's so much worse off for ever having been in contact with Temple.

The Western Kentucky move is now off the board. The conference didn't do the sane move and boot EMU. It spent all its time on a foster child who was moving out in a few years...just like UCF.

Another disaster for a conference on the cusp of breaking through just a decade ago...

Brian,
Of course the MAC provided Temple FB a chance to resurrect itself from the ashes. In exchange, Temple brought its NCAA Men's and Women's team to your arenas and the agreement to play 5 games per season. Where else were you getting perennial teams from the 64 agreeing to home and home series? Brian, MAC BB is that bad.

Unfortuantely, no MAC BB Programs seized the opportunity to put a quality win over Temple on their at large resume.

The Louisville Courier-Journal doesn't think Temple is the answer to the Big East woes: Temple of Shrugs.

Edit: They changed the head on the story now to Temple of Doom!  Kind of has a nicer ring to it.  Long and short of the story, if it represents the general feeling around BE-land, is that we may be stuck with Temple awhile longer.

Just when I thought baseball saves were the most useless statistic in sports, Temple went and created this one.

I came up with a great acronym for it.

Actually Joe Schad "created" the statistic... I guess it's useless though?

How was attendance at Peden last Saturday?  Did you break 20K?

Why do I care about the attendance at Peden Stadium?

Seriously. It's going to fluctuate from 18k to 23k. Whoop. De. Doo. They don't make any money either way. It's all blood red ledgers around here.

And, yes, picking and choosing three sports...one of which isn't a revenue sport...and putting it in a two-year time frame is as ludicrous as quoting a batting average with runners in scoring position over the last three partly cloudy Wednesdays.

Is the Big East going to take you on because your women's basketball team is competitive over two years? No, they want you because you're in Philly, you've got a great men's basketball program and a nicely rebuilt football program.

Adding anything more to that is just arbitrary and weird.

Date: Oct 01, 2011 • Site: Philadelphia, Pa.  • Stadium: Lincoln Financial  •  Attendance: 21705

Looks to me like the only significant difference between the two games was that one team emerged 4-1 and one emerged 3-2.

Basketball teams play so many more games that football wins hardly are weighted in this statistic. That is the reason a team like Duke can be included. Also, how significant is women's basketball really? It produces revenue for only a hundful of schools across the country.

Time to remember back to 1996. In those days Texas was in the Southwest Conference. In that conference re-alignment they kicked TCU, Houston, Rice, and SMU out keeping only Texas A&M, Baylor, and Texas Tech, and then annexed the former Big 8, taking Oklahoma and Oklahoma State in their side of the conference, and leaving a relatively weaker north division as five of the old Big Six, plus Colorado (instead of Oklahoma).

I have little doubt that TCU, Houston, Rice, and SMU resent being kicked out of the conference by Texas, and I am sure that the reason TCU joined the Big East instead of what is left of the Big Twelve is that they had no desire to put themselves in a position where history could be repeated. So long as they have other options, I think would avoid any conference controlled by Texas.

MH55, I admit that only 17,000 in Peden Saturday out of a "market" of 40,000 is not great.

But I do have to commend the Temple crowd of 21,000 out of a "market" of 4 million is impressive indeed. By the way, how did that -7 spot work out for you?

Dont understand or even care about the markets. Athens is a college town and its principal attraction is Ohio U. Were the Athens Phillies opening their playoff series that afternoon? Was your NHL franchise playing? How about the other 2 college football teams in the city?

Hey, I concede, the City of Philadelphia cares about as much for the MAC as the State of Ohio does....little if nothing at all. Difference is, we're getting our duds ready for a move...

Bad logic (again)...

Which begs the question, why have you been banned from multiple MAC boards?

6,000,000+ actually. Even more impressive.

Excellent idea, cuz.  I think there may be an opening soon in the North Coast Athletic Conference.  It already has one Pennsylvania member -- Allegheny College.  I think that would be appropriate competition for them and a natural rival.  I'm not sure they could ever beat Hiram College, though.

Exactly. We obsess over attendance, but there's really no mystery to it. It's neat to have a "big" game (Pitt, Marshall, UConn), but most are right in that 17-20k range. Until we're making a BCS run, that's not going to change.

As for me, I'll be glad when Temps moves on.  All these threads from MuttonHead always boil down to the same theme;  "We're better than you" (even though they haven't beaten OU in three years); focus on attendance in a usually half-empty stadium that has "Eagles" instead of "Owls" in the end zone; can't draw because of the PhilliesFlyersEagles (never mentions the Union); Fred Sanford: blah, blah, blah.

If he ever had anything intelligent to post, Philly would fall into the Delaware.

Get Temps out of the MAC and good riddance.
