Is it true that the student in the Rufus costume was actually a girl?

Look at the video in this thread.  Either there's some mannish girls over there, or it's a guy.  (They also said his name was Brandon Hanning)

I am a touch embarrassed, but I also had a huge laugh when I first saw the video.

I've been given the impression from what I read, that the person playing Brutus was male.  I don't think most girls could support a guy jumping on their back without warning.

This is what mascots do. I'm ashamed my university apologized.

Good god, could we get anymore embarrassing? The OS-Who shirts, the Mascot fiasco and a 43-7 drubbing that really wasn't that close. And yet we get posters that our band should/would/could upstage theirs. Immaturity at it's highest. PS, I'm a total Bobcat homer and a HUGE 110 supporter/fan and quite frankly I think if we play Panama one more time for a feature half-time show we just might as well put it in with the classics at post-game. We have really worn that one out.

Cannot say that I agree with you, Tim.  I think Rufus' actions were stupid and embarrassing. That said, Brutus is about as dorky a mascot as exists -- in its/his own way stupid and, were I an A&M fan, something I'd regard as an institutional embarrassment.

The difference being, usually both sides are involved in it knowingly.

Compared to Stanford's?

There are a lot more mascots way worse than Brutus.  I'm sure there's a little bit of bias coming from your side though.

anorris, that one completely flew over your head. Search the band threads regarding people wanting the 110 to do things on the field to one up TBDBITL.
I've read them... my point was, the 110 could've lined up and passed wind and it would've been a better show.

I'm sorry, but that is just rude.  I am a former member of TBDBITL.  Both bands are excellent organizations and both schools are very pround that they represent their universities.  I am very proud that I was in The OSUMB as I'm sure you are proud that you were in the 110.  Lets leave it at that.

He's not in the 110. My friends and I were talking at the game on Saturday and were saying that, a good band doesn't need "extras" on the field (Mobile or Flinstone car) or sound effects over the loud speaker to get their point across.

Lovely, can't we even get a current Ohio University student to be Rufus?

"It was the whole reason I tried out (to be Rufus) last year," he said. "I knew we were going back to OSU this year, and I wanted to tackle Brutus."

Am I the only person who read that and thought of Squints re: Wendy Peffercorn: "Of course I planned it! Been plannin' it for years...."?

Embarrassing.

I can't help but giggle at Frank's quote in that Post article though....

Ohio coach Frank Solich said he did not know much about the situation.

"Obviously we needed to tackle the guy with the ball, not the mascot," he said.

Good one C Money!  Never can go wrong with a Sandlot quote.  Can't believe we are discussing mascots...who cares about the mascots, watch the game!

I'd love to be Rufus, especially for basketball, but I've never known how to go about doing it.

I thought of John David Stutts.

http://www.hulu.com/watch/10400/saturday-night-live-john-...

Ted Koppel: Do you believe he killed Buckwheat?

Man: Oh, yes, definitely. That's all he talked about. I remember one day I says, uh, 'Stutts, why are you working so hard?' He says, "Cause I'm saving up to buy a gun, so I can kill Buckwheat."

It is common practice that when you have an away game you do the last show you performed at home.  That goes for pro games as well.  Fear not, the 110 will have a brand spanking new show for the BUGS game.  And then again for Homecoming, and so on.  New shows always debut at home games.

I'm with Coleman on this ... this dirtbag wasn't even an OU student. Color me crazy, but shouldn't the OU mascot be played by, oh I don't know, AN OU STUDENT?!? Tim Van Alstine would have hired people JUST to fire them for this.

That is correct.  Both the 110 and The OSUMB have a new show every home game.  So if you are not thrilled with one...just wait a week or so and another will be right there for you to enjoy.
