Ouch…..ouch….ouch.

Gonna take some positive portal or recruiting news to stop the bleeding.

It seems like folks are already concluding that every transfer is a result of NIL money.

Is NIL money already so prolific that it's having that sort of impact? What percentage of kickers at P5 programs are getting money? From what I can gather, the Texas/Texas Tech/OSU approach still feels like an outlier more so than the standard.

In other words, until we know where Vakos ends up how can we know NIL money has anything to do with it? May just be that he wants the opportunity to play at a higher level. Maybe he just saw Ohio State's kicker shank that kick and thought to himself "that's the sort of moment I want to be kicking in."

You’re right, it’s probably not all about the money. I agree. It could be any of a lot of factors including higher level of play and all the things that go with that. Or where their girlfriend lives, warmer climate, etc

Fact is 70% of all portal entries either go down or are out of the game. A lot of it is bad advice. NIL, maybe for some, but numbers were over3000 before NIL.

BG is getting gutted in the transfer portal right now! They’ve just had several of their All-MAC guys jump into the portal and a bunch of other starters have entered too. Talk about a horrible way to start off the new year. OU, like every school, will see a few guys leave. It happens to everyone. But Ohio hasn’t ever and doesn’t experience the kind of attrition like Kent State and Bowling Green are going through right now.

What are the facts if the player actually played a significant amount of plays? Guys like Blauser and Vakos should have no trouble finding an equal home, guys who played in a game or two the odds not too good I would guess.

We are losing a good one according to his twitter page.

Cannon Blauser has entered the portal.

The linebacker was set to be OUr top returnee at that position.

I’m not sure if any have an extra COVID year.

Kyle Kelly returns and a few like Ben Johnson and Quintell Quinn can return from other positions.

True Freshman Marshall could play and maybe a portal pickup as well.
How was he set to be our top returnee? Bryce Houston and Keye Thompson are both back.

Are Houston and Thompson back? I think Bryce has the option but Thompson is out of eligibility. It didn’t sound like Houston had his mind made up at all on a Coach’s Show interview a while back. I would almost assume they are both gone.

Houston and Thompson are the same class. They both have the COVID extra year left.

Could have factored in Blauser leaving.

Houston has said he is returning and wants to play for MACC.

Anyone know about Daxon? His eligibility has always been unclear with the NCAA and he is listed as a Redshirt Senior but he hasn't played 4 years here. Would love to have him another year.

That would help the D line ?

Now we need to address whether or not we need a kicker.

I'm curious about that too. The NCAA said initially that he came in with junior standing because he'd played high school football at an advanced age after coming here from his native country. OHIO was supposedly going to appeal that, but apparently didn't at the time. I suppose they could now. It seems grossly unfair to me. I could see maybe losing one year, not two, which would make him a junior now in eligiblity, with also an extra Covid year if he wanted to take it.

BTC can answer this better than anyone, but it is possible that it isn't appealable until the time when his eligibility expires, i.e. now.

That’s because he came in as a 6th year HS Senior with bogus transcripts. The NCAA placed him in his rightful class.

That would be correct. And if appealed who knows what the NCAA would do. They say no very seldom anymore.

Of the 6 current Bobcats in the portal, 3 have already committed to FCS or lower teams. Although, I have no doubt that Vakos will land on a P5 team.

Blauser is gonna leave a starting role on a 10-win team to play for Chattanooga?

He must be really upset by his PT this season.

Not true of Blauser, of course, but sometimes a portal entry is triggered by a coach's advice/request.

I see PK Casey Magyar is transferring from Kent State to tosu as a preferred walk-on. Don’t think he measures up to Vakos but if #90 was looking to go there maybe we have a slight chance to keep him. Of course there are many other P5 destinations for a stud PK.
