Don't forget "Marco" and "Mr. Jordan"!

My theory, dating back to the T-Comm days (pre-dating Bobcatattack.com), is that SBH, 3-ball and Marco are one-and-the-same. This theory has yet to be proven incorrect.

Can't say I've seen that mistake from SBH, but I do recall him once using the contraction "you're" when he should have used "your."

But then again, Mr. Swank is known for using "loose" as the antonym for "win." So maybe Alan is 3-ball.

Never, B2.  Never screwed up the your/you're.  Remember that I passed the J-school grammar test on my first try...unlike others.

Apparently Penn State fans think anyone from Ohio must root for the Buckeyes:

I like to follow the weather and watch long-range weather models and patterns as a hobby and have something here to think about. There is a tropical storm brewing out in the Atlantic and current models believe this will swing up the east coast, make landfall in South Carolina and continue on north into the Mid-Atlantic late next week. We very may have a sloppy, ugly game on our hands by the time next weekend rolls around. Just something to keep an eye on.

I'm hoping that storm swings into the gulf. (I hope all hurricanes swing into the gulf...we vacation in the outer banks so I prefer the storms stay far far away from there)

Hey Bobcats!!! Another big PSU fan here - stuck in C-Bus.

I won't be at the game on Sept 1st - visiting Pittsburgh hopefully I can sneak away from the wife and inlaws for a while while downtown.

Here's some 411 on our team some of what you already know and some you might not.

QB - McG is our starter and is fairly impressive for a guy that only had an offer from Princeton. The dude is cocky but very likeable if you're a PSU fan. I guess the main reason he's our starter is that our 4-5 star guys haven't panned out. Paul Jones is our back-up and one big dude 6'5 260. He still needs some work but shows signs of promise. Steven Bench is a two star out of Georgia. He must have potential because BO'B picked him up at the close of recruiting last year. He's already passed our number 3 guy this week and is breathing down Jone's back.

RB- Our starter is Bill Belton - quick guy 5'10 200. I think he could possibly be better than Redd down the road. He has better break away speed than Redd right now. If you watched our Ohio State game last year he was the kid that ran the wildcat all over them. Our back-up is a walkon but we have two schollarship kids that are getting in the game. Lynch (true frosh) & Dukes (grades).

WR/TE - We have a kid named Robinson here who could really break through as elite this year with Brown transfering to OKLA. Brown will be missed just for his size alone. Other guys are Shawney kersey (fast but unproven), Alex Kenney (fast - slot type of guy). We have some good incoming freshman after that. They will most likely have to play. The TE's are pretty solid. Gilliam is big but often hurt (6'6), The other guy is Jesse James an incoming freshman who enrolled early (6'7).

OL- The only reason that I'm optimistic here is because of the new weight program, Mac Mcworter (OL coach), and the size after the spring - they now average 6'4 310 across the board. However 4 out of the 5 are new starters with 2 of them seeing significant game experience in the past.

DL - Definately a strength. Hill & Jones DT's are very good. The starting DE's Massaro and Stanley are good. There's depth at DE but not a lot at DT. The 5th DT is a true frosh.

LB'ers - Mauti, Hodges, and Carson might be the best LB tandum in the B1G. Ben KIlne, Mike Hull , and True frosh Nyeem Wartmen back them up.

DB's - I like the guys we have here its just that we don't have a lot of depth. Adrian Amo's is really good and can play both CB & S. Stephon Morris is a little undersized at 5'9 but can play. The Safeties are Malcolm Willis - experienced & Jacob Fagnano (walkon/game experienced/but currently hurt). Our other Safety - Ryan Keiser is banged up as well. We have 3 pretty talented true frosh here and they will definately play. Jake Kiley, Da'Quan Davis, & Jordan Lucas.

K/P- We lost Fera to Texas (transfer) and he handled everything. Big loss, bigger than Redd IMHO. Sam Ficken is our Kicker and I have confidence in him to do well. Our punter is Alex "Mrs" Butterworth. He's been around for a while but isn't exactly getting rave reviews. We have a former high school punter that was a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox as well. The Red Sox have to pay for his schooling so we get lucky and don't have to give a schollie away.

Staff - ???? BO'B has said and done everything right since he came to SC. He's a very likable guy and committed to the program. Craig Fitzgerald is our S&C guy - huge up grade from the guy before. Fitzgerald came from South Carolina where he held the same position. We kept Larry Johnson Sr. (DL coach) & Ron Vanderlinden (LB coach). Both were huge keeps - LJ is a tremendous recruiter and recruits the Maryland DC area.

Looking forward to a great game with you guys. Its been a rough ride and now that football is here there maybe something positive coming out of SC. Expect a lot of emotion that day. I wouldn't be surprised if you sit close to some of the Penn State fans you see a tear or two when the team runs out on the field. I expect the student section to actually arrive before kickoff. Good luck and leave any Ohio State gear at home - Their fans haven't been to gracious to us since this occured. I expect October 27th to be an interesting day in Happy Valley. I will be rooting for you guys the rest of the way!!!

Quality post, thanks for the insight.  However, just curious, why would this note above even occur to you?  No offense, but this is an OHIO message board, and if we were attending the game, which I for one am, why would you think it would ever enter out minds to wear any tOSU gear that wasn't actually derrogatory to our junior institution in Ohio.  You'll find that most (not all) of us here actually dislike Ohio A&M.

Now for SC, any recommendations for hanging out on Friday night?  I'll be there FR/SA nights and would appreciate some insight.

DA,

It wasn't meant to offend you or the other Bobcats on this board. Just a comment in general. I've seen some uneducated sports fans in years past do similar things - not that any OU fans would do that, just a remark in general.

Friday - if you get there early enough hit the bars downtown. My wife and I partyed with the Bama fans downtown last year and it was a blast. Its pretty cool from 5-8pm. One of my favorite restaurants is "Champs" out on Atherton. Sandwiches, seafood, steaks etc. It's not the franchise "Champs".

No worries, just curious, and thanks for the heads up on Champs.  I actually heard there is going to be a large group of Cats there on FR night.  Sorry you don't get to make the trip yourself.

Interesting comments on the point spread discussion about our OLine being small.  That is actually the thing about today's team that is most significantly changed about our program.  I saw the Cats at FL in the Knorr era and we were tiny back then.  Now, we are on par with AQ teams, IMHO, especially the last two years.

I think this game comes down to our D v their O.  If we can hold them under 14 pts and win the TO/penalty battle, I have to believe it will be "old OHIO's day."

That one puzzled me, too, because the lines are almost identical in size.

If you have Prior, Lechner, Allen, Herman, and McGrath in, they are:
6-6, 301
6-5, 332
6-3, 288
6-4, 319
6-6, 304
Ohio average is 6 foot 4.8 inches tall, 309 lbs

I found a preliminary depth chart for Penn State, and if the starters are Smith, Arcidiacano, Stankiewitch, Urschel, and Farrell, they are:
6-5, 316
6-4, 293
6-3, 301
6-3, 307
6-6, 306
Penn State average is 6 foot 4.2 inches, 305 lbs

Arcidiacano won't be playing due to injury, and Farrell is 50/50 with Gress to play (probably see both).  Dieffenbach is the solid LG.

That's off your point though, just clarifying.  OL isn't necessarily about size.  Its about strength, power and athleticism.  Athletic OTs are a must.  You can trot out a 300-pounder easily enough, but can he play?  Being 330-plus doesn't make you an all american.

Joe Thomas is as good as it gets.  Even stronger now with the Browns, he is listed at 312 pounds.  Both of our OLs are big enough to do the job.

We are anxious to see what four new starters on the OL will look like, especially given that they have been under a revamped strength and conditioning program.  Its a big unknown on a team where unknowns are everywhere.

The Bobcats have a more experienced OL, going against an experienced front seven for the Lions.  It should be a good matchup.

As Paterno used to say .. we won't know what we have until we get punched in the mouth.

8 days and counting.

LC,

I dug this up from BWI.

3) I think this could PSU's best O-line in at least five years. The weight program has done wonders.
Physically, it has the opportunity to be dominant, and I think it is
more physically talented because of some underclassman linemen on the
roster. I'm anxious to watch Donovan Smith perform this afternoon. The
starting unit is: LT Donovan Smith (6-5, 316), LG Miles Dieffenbach
(6-3, 300), C Matt Stankiewtich (6-3, 303), RG John Urschel (6-3, 307)
and RT Adam Gress (6-6, 311)

That makes the average for PSU 6'4, 307, which isn't a lot different. My point was simply that the PSU poster who suggested that Ohio's offensive line was undersized was mistaken. They may or may not be as good as PSU's line, but there isn't a lot of difference in size.
