No offense 'Cats, but that's some creative, funny stuff there.  Obviously, these people have way too much time on their hands though.

I wonder if the Ohio Equipment Manager has changed the name plates in the Locker Room?

wow, their boards are..... interesting. I wonder if they realize that a football game is about to break out in the middle of their pity party/conspiracy theory jamboree.

Kirk Herbstreit said on ESPN this morning that this game has upset written all over it. PS will have to play hard to get the win.
He mentioned TT & Coach by name and made no mention of any PS player.

Spread remains @ 5 1/2

Herbie said some similar things on the Saturday ESPN College Preview Show.  One thing he did mention is what I've been thinking about all along---PSU will be much more ready for this opening game than they may have been without all the off season stuff.  My fear is were going to run into an emotionally charged team vs. a team who may be sleep walking through their first cupcake home opener.

I'm also not buying into the comments PSU is a depleted squad. Yes, they had 10 players transfer and yes they only have 4 players returning on offense.  But this PSU team is still a roster filled with guy who were most likely not even recruited by OHIO because they were too highly regarded.  I doubt few OHIO players had offers from PSU and I doubt few PSU players considered OHIO.  They still have guys who were picking between PSU, USC, Texas and other BCS type teams, while our guys were probably picking between OHIO, Akron and BG.  Heck, you could lose 10 guys in one off season to injuries, academics and suspensions.  So I still feel we're playing a team that last year spent time in the Top 20 and is full of top tier talent.

Also hate that with the perception of a depleted PSU team we don't get as much credit should we pull off the upset.  Whatever the case, let's get this game on!

CG...I agree with all you said.
With the spread @ 5 1/2 Vegas thinks this will be a close one.
I trust Frank to take the team through all the expected scenarios around the emotions of this team, school & game.

GotFRANK knows what it takes:  "We'll play four quarters."  Hopefully OUr yOung lads realize that all the hype is just wind and that the game is decided on the field.

I was thinking that the one improvement I'd choose this year is pass pressure from OUr front fOUr.....So, given the likely amped up emotion on the part of Penn State, do you choose to receive or kick it off?  I think that I'd kick it off as our defense is pretty experienced and emotion could work against PSU on offense, not so much on defense.

Penn State is apparently still keeping its offense a secret

I think with Travis Carrie out, there'll be more importance on the D line pressuring the QB.  That would certainly help the secondary.  Also, I think that emotion will be big for PSU during the first quarter, but they could deflate after that.  The first 15 minutes may tell the tale.

Emotion is a 2-way street. Emotionally charged teams will play hard, but may make more mistakes. That's why some coaches work hard to fire up teams, while other coaches work at keeping their teams playing on an even keel. It Ohio wins the game, it may well be because PSU, with all new offensive and defensive systems, makes some mistakes.

I am now sad upon learning that I work 9-5 on Saturday.  No chance at all to catch any of the game.

Altoona Mirror reporting that 10K tickets still unsold. Also, due to lyrics, Sweet Caroline will not be played.

I was thinking the same thing, L.C.  I'm sure they will be emotionally-charged, but that can be draining for a team.  I think if we can survice the first quarter, or at least the first half of the first quarter we'll be in good shape.  The team will be charged as will the fans, but that will eventually wear off and hopefully both will be depleted.  The Cats have to survive that momentum early, and then work at taking the crowd out of the game.  Once all that electricity wears off they should pounce.  The key is keeping even-keeled themselves at the start.

Kurt Laseak is the only true freshman listed on the two-deep. Chase Cochran listed as a starter at WR. Dovell not listed at all, maybe injured?

After reading this story, it's clear that Penn State isn't taking Ohio lightly, and Ohio isn't a bit intimidated by the Lions.  I think it'll be a good, or great, game.

If I were O'Brien, I would quietly instill an "us vs. the world" attitude in his team.  Having a chip on your shoulder can help offset the emotional highs and lows of this first game, and really keep the team focused down the road.  It served Ohio well during the 2006 season, after the Dispatch ambushed us with a highly critical article on the morning of the BGSUcks game.

The surprise name to me on the 2-Deep is Devin Jones as the backup at Safety. I don't recall hearing his name at all, though I see he got a mention in today's Bobcat blog as a good hitter.

Glad to see Antwan Crutcher on the 2 deep and back from what seemed to be a real serious injury.

Key is a depth chart of mostly rs jr/srs. who have been there done that.  Ohio is near there.

Also, Jon Lechner not starting in front of Carlotta? I know Carlotta is still a solid linemen for us, but I thought Lechner had that thing sewed up. FWIW, Lechner is on Steele's top 50 preseason OG list.

He is there because Xavier Hughes is not starting due to an off-the-field issue. According to Arkley's blog, Solich wasn't sure if or how many games he'd sit out, but considering he's not on the depth chart, it looks like he's not playing in this one. So three of the four guys we thought would be starting in the secondary are not.

As for the comment about Lechner, that's a unique situation. Carlotta started and got hurt and Lechner took over the job all of last year. Then Lechner got hurt in the MAC championship game. Lechner is the backup at both LG and LT, though, so I'm sure he's going to see plenty of action.

Having a preseason Top50 guard playing #2 on the depth chart is a good problem to have.
