My goodness, you people are flat out stupid. Do you all have cognitive disabilities or something?

You can put up all the reviews from Random Internet Writers you want, you can cite thread after thread after thread. NONE OF IT MATTERS. This is because of what WE have experienced. No amount of positive reviews on the Web is going to change that. It doesn't reverse our own experiences. And you want to call us liars and rumormongers? Man, you have a lot of gall. We're not going over to your hovel and saying these things to try and stir stuff up. We're keeping it in house. So spare us the martyr act. I've been to plenty of other cities, and Huntington was THE. WORST. I'd be happy to take a polygraph if you think I'm lying!

And you don't get to decide how good our fan base is or is not. That isn't determined by one game in Huntington, and we have nothing to prove to you. Take your beating like the snerts you are and crawl back into your hole for the rest of the year. Grumble amongst yourselves about how we didn't meet your expectations if you wish.

Oh, and way to prove what great hosts you are by coming here and insulting us and accusing us of fabrications and lies. Thumbs up! You're really living that!

You all sound like babies.  I am not condoning bad treatment at football games, but it is what happens.  At EVERY college atmosphere.  WVU fans were treated horribly when going to Lane stadium, but they still put butts in the seats.  You get more a-holes in Morgantown because there is an abundance of peoples compared to Marshall and Ohio in Huntington or Athens.  Either way, some douche bag flipping me the bird is not going to hurt my feelings or stop me from going to support my team.  I have friends that live 8 hours away with full time jobs that do not miss a game.  I'm not saying that it is possible for everyone to do that with their work, but I am guessing that there would be enough alumni and/or fans that could fill their allottment.

I've seen worse at Browns games than I have at Marshall games.  That doesn't stop me from lacking any respect for their fan base.

I am probably going to be yelled at by fellow Bobcat fans but we need to get a little more thicked skin. I am personally not going to allow another teams home crowd keep me from going and watching a team I love.

That's just crazy! Get your tickets in section 101, 103 or 105 and you will be surrounded by Ohio fans. Two years ago when Ohio lost a heartbreaker in Huntington I was on the press box side of the stadium surrounded by all Marshall fans and did not have any problems. When Ohio threw that last second touchdown pass I was pretty animated jumping up and down and no one said a word. In fact I went to the rest room on my way out of the stadium and as i was leaving some Marshall fans were celebrating and the guy noticed my Ohio shirt and stopped, looked me in the eye and said 'dude, I am really sorry because that is a tough way to lose". It wasn't a taunt. I just laughed and agreed.

Thats a great point.  I have never been to a Browns game but have been to Cincinnati Bengals and there is no comparison.  NFL home games are nuts.  People are drunk and the foul language is over the top.  Marshall fans are not in the same league when compared to NFL fans in craziness.

I was a student during the transition from 1-AA to the MAC. Our fans weren't angels. A lot has changed since those days, namely winning like we did. Losing seasons will humble a fan base quickly.

That all being said, I won't dredge up a bunch of reviews to prove it and beg you guys to come to Huntington to support your team. The less the number of you here the better, IMO. I don't want your team to have any advantage or be able to hear you guys cheering at all. For those that do come though, I hope you have a good time and enjoy the game and like I posted earlier are more than welcome to stop by the HerdNation tailgate and drink a beer.

If Bobcat fans could be heard at Penn State, they'll probably be heard by the Herd.

This!

This is all that matters.

Yes, I've been treated badly at MU games over the years... so what?  I could tell stories... to what end?

In the end, I won't let a moron stop me from doing the things in my life that I want to do.

I go to watch my team.

I go to socialize with old friends that live in Huntington.

I go to be a BOBCAT.

Most of the Herd fans are lovely people.  Some are not.  I find this to be the general way of people, everywhere.  It's not particular to Herd fans.

I'll be there Saturday, and I'll be decked out in my OU gear.

Hope to meet some new people, and share some good times.

GO BOBCATS!

That's the American spirit!  Don't let the terrorists win!

(but be on the safe side and drive the beater car to the game, wear old apparel, have a spare non-OHIO jacket to wear over OHIO gear, and have an exit strategy ;-) )

If we expect OUr football team to be RELENTLESS then OUr football Team should expect Bobcat fans to be RELENTLESS as well!

I challenge all Bobcats who say they won't go due to Marshall's fans to step up and become RELENTLESS! This is not about their fans! This is about supporting OUr team! Join me in Huntington and become RELENTLESS!

Brings back good memories...

They trashed our locker room after this game if I recall correctly.

I did not start this thread to start a controversy over who has "good fans" and who has "bad fans".  The whole idea was to let the fans know that Ohio had only sold 113 tickets to the game this Saturday and to encourage everyone to "get your rear ends to the Joan."  I think it would nice to see 5,000 Bobcat fans invade Huntington for some tailgating and hopefully a good football game.  Ohio has never brought a crowd worth mentioning and I thought that since your team was doing so well recently, that maybe it could be different this time.  That is it.  In reality, it would be better for our team if only 113 Ohio fans did show up; for obvious reasons.

In regards to the bad fan behavior for some of ya'll in the past.  I guess I have to believe you, because you were there.  Had I personally witnessed that, than I would have been in some Herd fan's a$$ for treating our visitors that way.  I have never witnessed anything like that though for any team and I have attended most games since 1995.  I have never heard of our visitors being treated that way.  I have only heard positive comments about our visitors' stays until now.  I don't know what to say.  I personally have never hated Ohio, because I have never had any reason to.  I don't see why there would be so much animosity by our fans.  LOL, now a couple more butt kickings like ya'll dished out last year, then maybe I can see us treating you badly.  No, no, no, I'm just kidding!

I was treated awesome last year by the Ohio fans and I can't wait to return the favor this year.  I even commented last year as I walked back to my tailgate from Peden that I at least expected someone, anyone, to scream "Hey, screw you.  We kicked your a$$."  But nothing.

For everyone that does not want to come to Huntington and watch the Herd vs. the Bobcats, then don't.  It's as simple as that.  For the rest of you who will be there, I can't wait to see ya.  I'll be tailgating next to the Wendy's.  Stop by for something to eat and a cold drink.  Good luck on Saturday.  Go Herd!

McKay........the reason you haven't witnessed any bad behavior since 1995 is because there hasn't been any. If there was any, it was a very rare occurrence. I've been going to Marshall games and tailgating for 25 years and I can honestly say that I have not seen anyone get out of line toward an opposing teams fans. We tailgate on the main lot and when we do there is always fans from opposing teams mixed in and having a good time. I suppose you may have a few punk students from time to time say  "Oh you suck" or whatever but who cares? If you are mature enough you would not pay attention to any of those kids anyway.

Like I sad earlier....for all you Ohio fans that plan on coming down, have a safe trip and lets have a good time. For all you guys that want to spread all the false innuendo go ahead and stay at the house. It's obvious you are just trying to find an excuse for not coming anyway. If you don't come and experience the game, it's your loss, not ours.

You can bet that I will be there with thousands of Marshall and Ohio fans looking forward to a fun night of football and camaraderie that this series has brought to the people of this region for many years. The battle for the bell continues!

I'll be there with 2 other Cat fans/alums, but none of us will be counting against the OHIO ticket allotment. Just because our athletic department only sold 113 tickets doesn't by any means establish that only 113 Hunter Green wearing fans will be there. A large number will have been purchased directly from Marshall and another portion will be friends/family of corporate ticket holders.

Mrs. Oldcat and I sat in the midst of the Marshall faithful two years ago without issue. Sitting in their section however it made good sense to not do anything to antagonize them. Having been used to the mediocre attendance in Peden we were absolutely amazed at the number of Marshall fans in the Joan. Nearly everyone has had a bad experience when visiting another team's venue. Mine was with the Southern Miss fans at the GMAC several years ago where I got spit on and they were kicking our behinds! I was totally shocked. The Marshall fans treated us well and so we will be expecting a similar experience Saturday but hopefully we come away with the win this time. Our Huntington experience will once again begin at Fat Patty's where the beverages are cold, the hamburgers are great, and the fans are friendly! We are sitting in section 103 this time, however, so we can be more vocal in our support of the Bobcats. Also can't wait to see how the 110 is received there.

I'm going to be attacked for what I'm about to say, but the only explanation I can find for the number of Ohio fans who report experiences that are totally foreign to my experience at Marshall is that many of these Ohio fans must go to Huntington with a real attitude that somehow brings out the worst in the small minority of idiots in the Marshall fan base.  This is the first year in a long time that I'll be missing the Marshall game because my wife and I are leaving for an Alaskan cruise on Friday. I will be watching the game in Seattle, Washington, via the Herd webcast for which I've already signed up.  Though I root for Marshall every other week, when I go to an Ohio-Marshall tilt I always wear my Ohio gear, and I've never encountered any thing like the hostility that some have described here.  I'm not doubting their accounts, but there's got to be some explanation for it other than just a random occurrence, at least in most of these instances.

Go Ohio!
Go Marshall! (Except this Saturday)

I'm sure some opposing fans could argue that the Ozone isn't always the friendliest group of people either.  So many of you act like you've never been to an opponents stadium before.  It's easy, just avoid the few drunk loser fans who are looking to start trouble and don't taunt or respond to their taunts.  If opposing fans have survived attending the true heated rivalries all these years like OSU/Michigan, Miami/Florida St, Auburn/Alabama, etc. then I can't imagine the Ohio/Marshall atmosphere is going to be that bad.

Oh please ..

The guys sitting behind the bench were not drunk, they were local business men who felt because tghey paid for seats behind the bench they had a license to saythings that would make an army drillseargent blush.... and you implying that i would go into a hostile atmosphere somewhere at the end of a career that starts in long heated rivalries between Blue collar manufacturing towns in Indiana and then travel for four years following Ohio in many facilities and somehow think that the same person who goes down and greets and welcomes every set of visiting parents to the convo pre game is going to somehow turn into a raving lunatic inciting the home fans on the road is ludicrous.

Some of the things you say here Carl are just over the top, implying that one goes looking for some itch to scratch is just insane. I appreciate the MU fans who are here supporting their team and am amused at the efforts they are going through to justify things. Fact is the 3 occassions I have been in Huntington were really quite nice as I am a fan of history and took time to explore the town, the restaurants and the architecture. The only bad part was having to encounter .....on all 3 occassions abusive and mean spirited fans. ALl the justification in the world is not going to change my opinion or the facts of what transpired. I found excellent food, OK parking, a nice arena, a large fannbase and more than my fair share of total jerk offs.....and in my limited view of the world where I only get to a littel more than a hundred or so games a year ini multiple sports from Charlotte to Providence to tulsa and many places in between........huntington and buffalo are the 2 places I really would avoid going back to based on past experience ....not with the towns or the schools or the teams...just due to the fans. To the credit of the Herd Nation when I went over and talked about the experience many of those were very complimentary of Ohio and my son ...and were very apologetic. My only wish is that they would come forward and check the fans who are a bit over the top.No one is going to deny all fanbases think it their right to abuse the visitors but there should be alimit and some decorum. I have had no problem in the past walking over to one of our fans who was being a Douiche.....the IUPUI game comes to mind.... and discussing with him how we should treat our visitors. .All I ask of any fanbase is to remember ...it really is just a game ...why so whacko?

Seriously? Marshall fans were threatening and violent because Ohio fans forced them to be? That's some Grade-A victim blaming right there, man. You're saying that dude asked for his car to be keyed? I guess that time I clapped was really aggressive and the Marshall fan had no choice other than to threaten to knock my teeth out. Feel free to stay in Alaska.

I must say though, this thread is starting to make wish I was making the eight hour round-trip drive .  I don't recall another fan base making such an effort to talk us into traveling to game at their stadium.

Heck all this talk of bad experiences has me really excited to attend my very first Bobcats vs Herd game in Huntington.  In the spirit of things, the four of us will be wearing EYEPATCHES.

Same here! (minus the eyepatches). I'm excited to watch the Cats in person for the first time this year, I'm excited to check-off another stadium in my quest to see one at all of them, and I'm excited to get some Tudor's on Sunday morning! Any chance of a Jesco White Bobblehead give away at the game?

JSF and Dr. Freeman: I'm not discounting your personal experiences.  I said that I felt that many (not all) of the experiences reported must have some cause other than this picture that some are painting of the fan base from Hell.  I've gone to Marshall games for years.  When they are playing someone other than Oho I wear my Marshall gear. When they are playing Ohio I wear my Ohio gear.  If anything I've been treated better wearing my Ohio gear as a visitor than as, pardon the pun, one of the herd of Marshall fans.   Thanks, JSF, for your kind wishes that I stay in Alaska.  However, missing two Ohio football games is as much as I can tolerate in one season!

For what it's worth, my trip to Huntington in 2010 wasn't terrible.  A few of my 110 buddies and I got there early to tailgate with other Ohio fans, but ended up tossing a football with some Marshall fans who warned us to "Wait it out" if we beat them later, since our tickets were over by their student section.  They were some of the nicer fans I've encountered.

We did have OHIO painted across our chests, so it's not like we were innocent fans going into the stadium, so the general ribbing and expletives we received weren't surprising.  But it wasn't terrible, and it was nothing I would cry home about.  I'd say it was a rather PG-13 kind of day.  I was a bit taken aback when we moved over to the Ohio fan section, and we were harassed non-stop by a group of six-year-old kids as their parents just watched.  Some of the things that came out of their mouth I would've been slapped for saying, but you can just attribute that to awful parenting, since there was no effort by their parents to stop them.

And not surprisingly, it got worse when we leaved the stadium.  Most of it was students, including the empty beer can thrown at our car.  We just laughed and said, "Wait until next year, friends" (not in those exact words...)

Overall, I was impressed by the passion and the atmosphere, and I wasn't surprised by anything that happened.  I didn't have a family there with me and I was a student at the time, so obviously my expectations were a bit different than those with family or loved ones there.

I promised myself last year after I stepped over the line that I'd keep it zipped this week but this is getting to be too much...

I have never traveled to Huntington and never plan to until my kids are safely tucked away as students in Athens...

I've had enough "encounters" in Athens to make this decision an easy one.  2002 sticks out in my mind...Crushing last second field goal miss and the Marshall Cheerleaders and Mascot felt the need to jump the hill and ring the victory bell during the post game show.  These aren't fans...These are representatives of the University.  I had more than one "encounter" with actual fans on the way out that day as well (with our kids on my hip).  Hell...Last year I chased two idiots with a whistle out of Peden myself.

I'm certainly not saying all Marshall fans are like this.  I tailgated with some very respectful kids last year and received an invitation to return the favor this year.  But please don't paint the Marshall fan base to be the "norm".  I've attended a a LOT of Ohio games (both home and away) and "norm" is most certainly not a term I would use to define this fan base.  On that note...Please stop with the "no one cares about the MAC" schtick.  There's a difference between caring and antagonizing.  And let's not be so quick to dismiss the conference that welcomed your program when it needed us most.

There are a lot of fervent fans in Huntington and this is a good thing.  There comes a point though, where you need to take action and reign in the vocal minority or your reputation will continue to grow as it is.
