No, I never said that... I am saying however, that it has never happened to you at another MAC stadium because no one cares enough there.

Someone obviously did that because they care about Marshall football... it is a vile, dirty, chickenshit move to do to someone... but when you go somewhere that they could care less about what team you support as long as they get to watch $5 football on a weekday night... it's whatever to them.

Once again, I am so sorry that it happened to you.. I've been on the recieving end of it as well, it's degrading, and if I ever saw anyone do that to another fan here, I would personally address the situation.

There is no room for that in college football.

Your response is exactly why I will never go back to Huntington.  It's not a sign that they care.  It's a sign that they are complete jackarses.  Being a complete **** doesn't mean you care more. It means you are a bad person and your priorities are completely effed up.  There are plenty of fans that are just as passionate about their teams in Oxford, Ohio but they aren't stupid enough to feel like they have the right to assault another human being because they are a fan of another team.

Well, here we go again.  Ohio is playing Marshall.  And during game week, we have the predictable sniping between the fan bases on this web site.

For one thing, if a Marshall fan wants to rip Ohio fans for not traveling well, you're preaching to the choir on this board.  Most posters on here travel really well.

Also, while this will no doubt upset some of my friends on here, I've never personally had a bad fan experience in Huntington.  I've always been treated great by Marshall fans, invited in to tailgates, etc.

On the other hand, I personally witnessed the bad behavior described by bornacatfan.  That actually happened.

So you're gonna throw a whole city under the bus because of ONE GUY?

Your football team harassed the shit out of me at the bars in Athens last year after the game, told me to go *&#@ myself and was pushing me out of the way in line to get drinks.

Not everyone is perfect.

And I will say, that I will come back to Athens everytime Marshall goes, just because, that eventhough there were some bad eggs, I had a great time up there.

I'm hosting a tailgate at a house couple blocks from the stadium, and while it's mostly a college student environment, I invite any Bobcats to it.

Here is another example of how we treat fans in Huntington.

http://forums.delphiforums.com/catamountpride/messages/?m...

This is WCUs message board. I would punch a herdfan in the face if i saw them acting like that toward another teams fans. That is NOT what we are about at Marshall. I would encourage you to give us another opportunity to show you what it is really like in Huntington.

Mark me down as another who really isn't crazy about doing the short roadie to Huntington.  I love your city - in fact, I fly out of HTS more than CMH.  Neither myself nor my family plan on attending a game at your stadium, however.  Two of my in-laws were in Miami's marching band back in the late 1990's.  In 1998, Marshall was the travel game for MUMB.  My parents in law decided to go (they weren't into the football, just the marching band).  They knew not to wear opposing teams colors and to try to be invisible, but, nevertheless, during the halftime show they had beer dumped on them because they cheered *for the visiting team's marching band.*  They were relentlessly harassed the rest of the game.  My MiL was still in tears when she got back home, more than 2.5 hours away.  We never forgot that day.  In fact, at last year's OU MU game, my wife and child stayed home.  She didn't want to deal with the Marshall fans in her own stadium.

Edit:  I am fully aware of 66-6.  That's still no excuse to do that to a fan of an opposing teams marching band.

This was a roadie I was hoping to make at the beginning of the season, but I'm going to have to be relegated to Internets watching. Wish I could make it.

That said, Bobcat fans could travel better.  Our presence at Penn State wasn't all that impressive and our presence at Ohio State a couple years ago was kinda pathetic.  Things are getting better, though. I think people are starting to realize what makes a program.

I actually disagree.  I thought the turnout for the PSU was great - we filled the entire section used for their visiting fans.  I've been to a lot of road games over the past decade, and I think for a team without a strong history of great football we travel exceptionally well.  We had a great crowd at Rutgers, Tennesee, Pitt, Northwestern and both times at VT.  A VT fan told us they were pleasantly surprised to see the amount of people we brought - it was much more than some of their ACC foes.  The same can be said for the folks in Knoxville.  I think people are surprised that a MAC team sends that many fans (most don't).

That being said of all the road games I've been to all have been a great deal of fun, and all postiive experiences except for one:  WVU.  I can't remember what Marshall was like (last time there was as a student in '98), but if the Herd fans are anything resembling their counterparts in Morgantown (the most disrespectful group of fans I've ever encountered at any sporting event) then I can imagine the lack of travel there.  Hopefully that isn't the case, and hopefully we send a large group to Huntington Saturday.

I plan on attending Saturday, and I've never been to Marshall and am real excited about it.  That said, my most memorable encounter with Marshall fans was the game last year in Athens.  They threw beer at me.  I'm a Browns fan, I can handle it, but lets not pretend Marshall fans are all upstanding individuals.

Did you read the thread above? And countless others?

I can not believe you guys act like our fans are that bad. Its a joke. Optimist, cant wait to hear your story because you will see this is all ridiculous.

Anyway, i am done with it. I travelled to peden and had a good time, no issues woth fans, etc, and other than 1 a-hole 15 years ago, i doubt any OU fans have any problems either. I have never heard of nor seen any of the things some of you are saying from any visiting fans, even WVU.

Whatever makes you feel better about not supporting the best team you have ever had i guess.

Anybody else tired of the patronizing attitude coming from Huntington? You guys didn't invent being a good fan. Pointing to a few message board threads as evidence for the overall visiting fan experience is like turning in a research paper with nothing but Wikipedia citations. Stick to what you guys do best, which is arrange bogus jobs for your football players. Hell, for the few games I spent in the press box in my old job, they told us it'd be quicker to take a leak on the roof at the half than take the elevator down a few levels from the radio/TV booths to the main press box. Now that's class.

Story is pretty simple.  I was going into the stadium with some friends chanting pro-OU cheers.  Fat Marshall fan in his 30's thew beer at my group and I...

How would you otherwise reccomend me explaining to you that we are known for our hospitible fans?

How is citing other people's experiences ANYTHING like quoting a wikipedia article... at all?

all of the examples given by Bobcat fans of bad behavior by Marshall fans are coming from FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE. They were there, they saw it, they experienced it, it happened to them.

You respond to them by posting anonymous user reviews saying good things about Marshall in hopes of what? that the person that actually lived the bad experience will say- Oh you know, I got beer thrown at me, cussed out, and threatened, but I am totally wrong in not wanting to put myself and my family in that environment again because some random person on the internet said something different.

And do you not understand the irony of endlessly berating and belittling someone who says they don't want to go to your town because the last time they went they were berated and belittled endlessly?

Maybe Marshall fans just really dislike Ohio and it's fans...no other explanation as to why everybody else loves to attend games in Huntington except for Ohio fans.

Like I said, whatever makes you feel better about not supporting your team against what is probably the best opponent on your schedule this year, even with your best team ever.

Guess there is a reason Ohio wasn't considered for CUSA membership.

i won't be going back to huntington for this game.  In 2010, the marshall fans were absolutely terrible to my fiancee and i: outside of the stadium, inside the stadium, and walking down 4th avenue after the game.  i had the misfortune of living in huntington for 7 years so i may be a bit biased in my distaste for marshall and their fanbase.

I did not start this thread to start a controversy over who has "good fans" and who has "bad fans".  The whole idea was to let the fans know that Ohio had only sold 113 tickets to the game this Saturday and to encourage everyone to "get your rear ends to the Joan."  I think it would nice to see 5,000 Bobcat fans invade Huntington for some tailgating and hopefully a good football game.  Ohio has never brought a crowd worth mentioning and I thought that since your team was doing so well recently, that maybe it could be different this time.  That is it.  In reality, it would be better for our team if only 113 Ohio fans did show up; for obvious reasons.

In regards to the bad fan behavior for some of ya'll in the past.  I guess I have to believe you, because you were there.  Had I personally witnessed that, than I would have been in some Herd fan's a$$ for treating our visitors that way.  I have never witnessed anything like that though for any team and I have attended most games since 1995.  I have never heard of our visitors being treated that way.  I have only heard positive comments about our visitors' stays until now.  I don't know what to say.  I personally have never hated Ohio, because I have never had any reason to.  I don't see why there would be so much animosity by our fans.  LOL, now a couple more butt kickings like ya'll dished out last year, then maybe I can see us treating you badly.  No, no, no, I'm just kidding!

I was treated awesome last year by the Ohio fans and I can't wait to return the favor this year.  I even commented last year as I walked back to my tailgate from Peden that I at least expected someone, anyone, to scream "Hey, screw you.  We kicked your a$$."  But nothing.

For everyone that does not want to come to Huntington and watch the Herd vs. the Bobcats, then don't.  It's as simple as that.  For the rest of you who will be there, I can't wait to see ya.  I'll be tailgating next to the Wendy's.  Stop by for something to eat and a cold drink.  Good luck on Saturday.  Go Herd!

I have to chime in. Last (and only) time I was in Huntington was for a basketball game. The guy behind us yelled expletives at us the entire game. He was obviously trying to get a rise but was very disappointed that we completely ignored him. If I had children though, you best believe the result would have been different. This is the only time I've ever been treated poorly by opposing fans, and that includes going to a Phillies game in Citizen's Bank Park wearing Cincinnati Reds gear.

Oh, and in addition to the constant cursing and carrying on he also exclaimed "Somebody get that boy a beer!" when an 8 year old won a free throw contest and when the cheerleaders were throwing out t-shirts he yelled "Forget t-shirts, I wanna get me a cheerleader!" and then proceed to talk about what he would do to that cheerleader (not suitable for this forum). Keep it classy, Marshall.

P.S.- If I lived closer you best believe I would be in Huntington to witness the CATS pound on some blundering turd.
