Optimist, if you are who I think you are, you were not kicked out for standing in the student section. You were 'kicked out' for leaving your seat, and intentionally blocking the view of people sitting. You were then an absolute jackass about it.

It's one thing to ask people to stand, and get people excited, its another to be a complete jerk about it.

You deserved it.

Please go be an Ohio State fan. You sound like a miserable person.

Sitting quietly and golf clapping for a splendid football play doesn't jive with the "party school" theme.

Maybe it's time to allow beer in the stadium.

Agreed, if you want to have a successful sports program the fans have to do their share, it's a football game, not a golf tournament. People can complain about how the defense might not be playing to the level we are all expecting, but it doesn't help when the opposing offense can hear the play and not be "intimidated" by the library atmosphere. You can stand up, yell, shout, and cheer, but if your sitting on your hands barely making a noise, you have no right to complain about how the team is doing. If the fans are loud, Akron could of been more  mistake prone thus making the game not as close. It's as simple at that.

And +1 Tim

"STAND UP AND CHEER"

Some one should make T-Shirts, those small scrolling banners, etc. to point at, flash, when anybody says anything about someone standing!!!!!

I thought "Sit down, shut up" is what you yelled at the opposing coach - ?????

Would this fan be ejected from Peden for "Indecent Exposure"?

To the Optimist, you're right, it was not you who i witnessed, but 'The Situation.' I did not witness your experience from this past Saturday. I'm sorry.

To Tim Burke, that was a low blow. As someone who didn't miss or sit at a home football game, and all but 4 basketball games in my four years at Ohio, I resent that statement. You indeed sound like the miserable person.

I stood and yelled my butt off the entire game. Some fans put themselves on a pedestal because they yell louder and stand longer, but what they need to realize, is that fans come in all shapes/sizes. Let's focus on discouraging the State fans who show up in red, and encouraging our fans (like all those students who sat), not ruining their experience unless they rise to your fandom level.

Again, trying to get people pumped is one thing...one thing that I also did with many sutdents sitting around me. Continuing to heckle OUr own fans after they've asked you to leave them alone so they can watch the game, does not build camaraderie or bigger OHIO fans!

Let the drama continue...

Student Senate is soooo lame. Dig this link and look at the clown that served as president from 1976-1977

Ok I'll bite, how many schools do you know that is 7-0 and half the student section sits? OSU? No. Alabama? Nope, try again. I'm willing to bet UTSA who is having their first season of Big Boy football doesn't have that problem either. Before you lecture about what a good fan is or making excuses, just think. As I said earlier if you want Ohio to play big time football you have to act like a big time fan, that means standing, cheering, and being loud. It's a football game not a movie theatre. Besides, are you going to ask the whole O Zone to sit during basketball season? Give me a break, students should be having a fun time and treating the game like a party not a 7:30 Econ class.  Considering you have a 7 post count since March, better luck next time.

I don't know what I should focus on...

The fact that Ohio "fans" complained about other Ohio fans standing at a football game.

The fact that Ohio "fans" complained about other Ohio fans standing at a football game, in the student section.

The fact that security listened to these "fans" and tried to do something about these trouble makers standing up and cheering to varying degrees of success.

The fact that our entire stadium is open admission. (if there are open seats)

The fact that some of the complaining Ohio "fans" were in the Ohio student section despite not being students.  Why were they allowed to sit there?  Oh that is right, because the entire stadium is open admission.

The fact that I've done much worse things than this at football games before and have still been allowed to frolic freely inside Peden.

The fact that there were completely separate standing incidents involving bobcatattack posters.

The fact that while The Situation and I are both diehard Ohio fans who will continue to support the program, there were other students involved who I am sure were turned off by this incident.  Even some non-regular Ohio fans think they are expected to stand at a football game and were surprised this is against the rules.  I do not believe they gave security a hard time like I did.

The fact that Monroe Slavin refounded a pro-OSU group on campus the Ohio campus.  How can we ever expect to recruit a quality BIG MANZ when Ohio University isn't even Student Senate's favorite college team?

As far as I'm concerned, the security at Peden made an inexcusably bad call on Saturday.

This makes me SICK. I work my butt off every game leading those students, to the point where I can hardly stand after games for spending so much energy. That's MY student section, where the STUDENTS STAND. The fact that so many were sitting after the 1st quarter was terrible enough, but if anyone is booted for STANDING AND CHEERING I'll blow a gasket on every escorting security guard and "fan" that sits behind. Never again. I'll be having a chat with some of the people in the athletic department and hopefully that'll NEVER happen again. Disgusting.

That was referencing the link Paul Graham posted regarding student senate.  Do not take it as a serious comment.  The "inexcusably bad" comment was also a joke but I will let that one sit.

Well, the only way I can possibly think of all this friction is that a new era of athletic support is sweeping in at OU (or Ohio, whichever you want to call it). It's going to be a little "dramaful" at first, but I feel as if it will only get better and better as it goes on. Just keep chanting, keep singing, and keep being awesome.

Couple that with the parade no longer going down Court Street. I was very displeased to be hanging out at the Pigskin and the Pub and not seeing/hearing the band go by.

While we're at it, who can I talk to in the athletic department about the stadium staff refusing to let me and other 110 fans from sitting in the lower section during the 110 postgame show?  It's ridiculous.  The game is over, go away.  You don't need to impose your power when the game is over.  I have no sympathy for the girl who went out of her way to be rude to myself and two of my friends because "no one was listening while she was trying to do her job."

Sorry but this is a complete whiff!    I have no problem if people want to sit and watch a game but don't complain if you're not smart enough to sit away from the student section.  This is sports Darwinism at work.

Not only have I consistently seen the security staff in Peden enforce ridiculous "rules" while much more serious offenses slide, they also have done this in an incredibly rude manner.  I am going to stop short of making extremely hurtful generalizations, but I will say I don't have much respect for their manners or intelligence level.

Well here is my two cents...

I was standing nearby (yes, standing, the entire game, as always) when the situation with The Situation went down. He was NOT kicked out of the student section for standing. That is a GROSS simplification of the events. For most of the game he was standing in the student section and no one bothered him or was bothered by him. Then, at the beginning of the second half, several people sitting nearby, who appeared to be students had sat down. They did not ask him to sit down and he was not obstructing their view.

Then he turned around and began goading the crowd to stand and cheer. Good for him, that's wonderful and it is something I encourage. When a particular subset of the crowd didn't respond he took it upon himself to leave his seat and go confront them. That's when things got ugly.

First, he stood directly in front of someone with the direct purpose of pissing them off and drawing a reaction. I didn't hear what that person's response was but several girls in the area were getting noticeably annoyed. An alum politely asked The Situation to stop making a scene and that everyone was entitled to watch the game without being harassed. That alum had been standing the entire game and was not being obstructed, but simply acted as a good Samaritan in trying to diffuse the situation. Also, it had nothing to do with him standing and everything to do with him refusing to leave people alone.

The Situation then began screaming at the top of his lungs that this was "a free country" and that he was being "discriminated against" by being asked to leave the annoyed group alone. NO ONE was mad at him for standing. MOST people in the general vicinity stood the whole game, including myself, and no one asked me to sit down.

After The Situation ranted for awhile, the alum went to a security guard and told him/her (I can't remember the person's gender) that The Situation was causing a disturbance and the security person should keep an eye on him. He did not ask him to be removed. At first the security person didn't do anything, but after several minutes of The Situation screaming nonsense the security person politely asked him to please stop harassing people (again, not to leave or to sit down). After he kept going on with his immature and ridiculous behavior, that was when the APD Officer was brought into the picture. The Officer yelled up to him, "Young man please come here." To which The Situation responded "Why?" The Officer then said back, "Young man, come here NOW." The Situation went out with the officer and came back a few minutes later. I could not hear what he said to the people he had been harassing, but to his credit he went back up to them and appeared to make amends and then sat with them the rest of the game peacefully.

Certainly a lot of the issues you all have brought up are legitimate, but this particular case apears to be someone who is inflating their "war story" to prove a point. No one asked him to sit down, only to return to his original spot and stop harassing people, and no one kicked him out of the student section, as he returned and watched the entire game. From my perspective, the fellow alum, the security person, and the APD Officer all handled the situation perfectly.

Jwp_attackcat is right here.
