You can complain about the O Zone all you want, but until the old timers sitting behind the O Zone take off their OSU gear it won't matter....

On the topic, who the hell hired the security staff that sides with Ohio state fans? Do I have any backers who will pay my bail when I refuse to sit?

Asking students to sit at home games, especially homecoming, is absurd. It also detracts from the atmosphere that would make Peden a tough place to play.

What is this, Miami?! We are Ohio, not state, and if they have a problem with y'all STANDING UP AND CHEERING, they should drive an hour and a half up 33 and go see state. Otherwise, they need to shut the heck up and enjoy watching Ohio beat up on Akron.

Screw the Roo, go 'Cats!

That's insane. Student's should have every right to stand and cheer in the STUDENT SECTION! If you don't like it you should move, shame on the staff at Pedan for kicking you out. Students should get to stand, cheer, have banners, signs anything as long as it's not endangering others or making the school look bad. It's called school pride and a student section for a reason!!

The event staff has informed me that anywhere you can find an open seat in Peden is considered open admission.

Their words, not mine.

I'd make sure to send a strongly worded letter to Ohio Athletics regarding this one if I were you.  Total and complete BS

Go find an empty tour club seat and give them his name.

Ridiculous. I'm embarrassed at the idiots who are running this. Somebody please name the exact individual responsible for this.

You can watch the rest of the game with Carl Jones!  Does this mean Jones is suspended by the league/NCAA for Miami?

I must admit, listening to Akron fans complain about how cool the OU students chanting OU and the tower side responding Oh Yeah was kinda awesome.  They were more upset about this than they were about the O-H-I-O clap after the fight song at the MAC tourney... It was great.  Props to the even staff for making possible.

If nobody bought the ticket for those spots, they can sit there.  But you don't mess with a section labeled STUDENT SECTION.  If you are foolish enough to sit behind it not wanting to stand, you should know what's coming.

Sometimes Peden does feel like the Branson, Missouri, of stadiums.

That's why I situate myself at the wall at the base of the hill so no one can yell at me for standing up.

I stand up all the time in the Phillips Section on the old fart side and no one has ever said anything.

I will say that today the old farts certainly outdid the students.  At the end of the game the press box side was still packed while the student side looked like everyone had already left for the bars.   Shame!

Optimist, if you are who I think you are, you were not kicked out for standing in the student section. You were 'kicked out' for leaving your seat, and intentionally blocking the view of people sitting. You were then an absolute jackass about it.

It's one thing to ask people to stand, and get people excited, its another to be a complete jerk about it.

You deserved it.

We were about 30 rows up over the 30 yard on the student side. We (everyone) stood throughout the 1st quarter and at key/high tension moments and nobody said boo.

It's a sporting event. There is no such thing as the bolded issue.

I didn't know there was a rule that said you couldn't stand the whole game. Odd.

I'm probably the person you're thinking of. A second, and separate, incident of being forced to sit down by the gameday staff and whatever cholo alumni that called security on me for standing in the STUDENT  SECTION.

Except, after I explained myself to the Athens PD, I was allowed to stay, and stand. And guess what, people followed suit.

You're pathetic. Watch the games from home now on.

I can't believe the hyperbole of this topic. People complain that people rarely stand up and cheer during the whole game but when students who's unwritten rule is always stand as the 12th man 6th man for bball, and then have people complain. If your going to be in the student section you should abide by the unwritten code. If thats a problem then go to the corner stands.

For the record: I was asked to leave the game by the Athens PD after some alumni called security because I was standing in peoples' way. It was outrageous! I was simply pleading my case for people to stand in the student section!

After the officer asked me if I "wanted a ride the Nelsonville" I politely reminded him that he'd have to force every single person in the stadium to sit down to stop me from filing a lawsuit. I was then permitted to return to my seat in the middle of the apathetic crowd where I STOOD for the remainder of the game. Some people followed suit and supported me, or the Bobcats, it doesn't matter, because they were standing.

It's disgusting that the police were involved in a situation where I was standing in the STUDENT SECTION.

If you had a problem with me you should have addressed me at the game.

I Saw the whole thing. The person was trying to pump up the crowd sitting in the ozone section around the 40 yard line. He was very spirited and was justing trying to get people to stand up. While trying to pump up people hey was being yelled and and made fun of. This man was doin the whole ozone a favor and was the main voice behind alot of the chants you heard. If you dont want to stand up dont sit in a student section. its simple.

This is the second most ridiculous school-pride related fiasco that happened yesterday.

The top spot goes to Student Senate, with maybe half a dozen doing osu's OH-IO cheer down Park Place during the parade. Absolutely disgraceful.

I really don't understand... Is it illegal to stand? I don't care what section you're in. Is this illegal? Depending on the situation, maybe it could be interpreted as disrespectful, but it's hard for me to believe it's illegal.

I am fairly certain I am not who you think I am.  You probably would recognize me though, and might still think I am a huge jackass, although I hope not.

I don't think I was a huge jackass, just a minor one... However, I would've been a HUGE jackass if I didn't want to miss the game.  However, I LOVE this school and really just wanted to watch our undefeated football team.
I am the kind of individual who would be alright with taking a ride to Nelsonville and then laughing as the USA Today picked up the story with the headline "student arrested for standing at football game."  If you are aware of who I actually am, you may know I have a history with these sort of issues.
http://www.athensnews.com/ohio/article-34650-students-call-cops-on-mill-st-construction-crews-for-late-night-noise.html
http://www.dispatch.com/content/blogs/the-eteam/2011/08/noise-violation.html

That piece was me being a jackass.  Being kicked out of a  STUDENT SECTION  for standing is a legit gripe, IMHO.  Not a jackass, but I really should have been.  I was kicked out for standing as were a ton of others.  Then I was told to go find a seat in open admission on the Tower Side.  If I was a huge jackass, I would've went over to section 105 and told security that the other security told me I could stand there.  I then would've stood the entire game and frustrated all of bobcatattack and their families.  I decided it was a better move to go annoy the Akron fans.  It was fun.
