USATODAY today says Vandy or Purdue in BBVA Compass or heart of dallas.  Only in the MAC can the loser get a better Bowl than the winner.  Does this really make any sense at all?  I don't think so but I would take either of these over a sun belt team no matter how good they are.

I agree, if we're not going to win the MAC or have a BCS shot, we might as well lose a few extra games and get a better opponent, more pay and a nicer destination.    Go Ball State! (jk)

That's always been the screwy part of MAC bowl tie-ins.  The champs always wind up going to bowls with lesser payouts and less convenience (date and/or location) than the teams that wind up filling other conferences' slots.  The new playoff system has potential to fix that, at least some years.

After witnessing the latest debacle, one thing is practically certain.  IF this team goes to a bowl, whoever they play will slaughter them.  The offense is misfiring on all cylinders and the defense is just plain too beat up to compete against anyone good.  My hope is they get an invite and turn it down.  Save the money and the humiliation.

Oh, if we get an invite we'll go.  too bad we won't get a second bowl win and will really be embarassed based on our play down the stretch.  There won't be many teams ending the year 1-4 that are bowling.

OUR PLAYERS DESERVE A BOWL.  PERIOD.

Really, stop with this unintelligent 'no bowl' talk.

Bowls are not a continuation of the regular season. A month layoff does funny, unpredictable things to football teams both for the positive and negative.

Last year I was sort of glad we had an early bowl because the final score was up on the screen for all the other bowl games on ESPN.  This year I'm sort of hoping for a game later in the season...not very optimistic about the outcome, whoever we play.

Notre Dame in the Pizza Bowl would be epic...It'll never happen because Notre Dame would rather stay home than play in the Pizza Bowl, but it would be epic.

HA! I was scrolling through this thread earlier today, saw my previous comment, and had the same thought. Thankfully, there is some parallel universe out there where we will be playing the Domers in the Pizza Bowl in a few weeks.

Anybody think if push comes to shove we really go to a Bowl before Ball State?

It really depends on the bowl.  I think Military might take us first because people in the DC area will have an idea where Ohio is and would be familiar with us from the Penn St game, but might not never have heard of Ball St (unless they watch Letterman).  Others, just don't know.  We did get a lot of early season press that BSU didn't, so that might help with some.

That chart is assuming that Georgia Tech gets a waiver to play at 6-7... Not likely with enough eligible teams to fill all the spots.

Saw a story earlier today where Tech's AD told their coach that they're going to a bowl.  Could be just speculation on his part, tho.  I honestly don't think the NCAA is willing to make it possible for a bowl team to finish 6-8 for the second year in a row.  But, you never know.  I still have Tech on my chart as bowl eligible, but only because I figure they are eligible at 6-6 until someone says they have to win 7.

Georgia Tech is in. Phil Steele projects UConn and Pitt both will win to become bowl eligible, but Ohio still will go to a bowl ahead of  Western Kentucky and Louisiana-Monroe. He puts the Bobcats in the Military Bowl against San Jose State: http://www.philsteele.com/bowls/12-13/bowlprojections.html

La-La has committed to the New Orleans Bowl. Even if they lose this week and end up 7-5 they are going to a bowl.

Comes down to Pitt and UConn. One of them wins then we have to be picked over WKU for the last team in. Both win and we're out. Both lose then both us and WKU go to a bowl.

Gold Sheet has both Pitt and Uconn winning - Pitt is a 3-star lock  - sheet has them winning by 18.

FYI - sheet has Northern winning by 10.

Is the fix in or something?

I can understand Pitt being a big favorite, but 5-6 UConn favored over 8-3 UC?

Sorry, I confused my Louisiana schools. He has Louisiana-Monroe out. ULM is done at 8-4. I have not been able to keep straight that Louisiana-Lafayette prefers to be called only Louisiana now and it is the school he has going to a bowl (as is the case).

UConn's at home, they beat L'ville on the road last week, they have more to play for (bowl eligible vs. meaningless tie for first in BL but no BCS bid) and it's a recognition that except maybe for Temps and USF there isn't a whole lot of difference among the BL teams.

OK, I see BSU in per Steele so now I will go on to BG.  Why would we be picked ahead of them?  I believe Phil Steele leaves them out completely (or did i miss something)?

You're right. He is leaving Bowling Green out. And I was wrong about Louisiana-Monroe being left out. He has it in. I just was missing it because it was listed as ULM.

I'm with you. I don't understand the rationale behind that pick either. Bowling Green shouldn't have to worry about going to a bowl. That would be a similar situation to Ohio and Temple  few years ago when Temple was left out, and rightfully so, having lost to Ohio at home.
