Personally I am more interested in why the University has not repaired the outfield fence at Bob Wren, and the Softball field's back netting.  That storm damage was only 7+ months ago!

I presume they'll do it early on in the Spring before the season gets underway.  What point is there to repair it quickly before it is needed. Sure, the odds are low, but what if it were to be damaged again before the season began?

Well, they had Cooperhead games, they had fall practice, skill camps, prospect camps and recuriting occuring.  Not like the field has not been used for those 7 months.  Same with Softball,

At this point, I'm just excited the IPF isn't going to be a circus tent type building like the lame Glidden Tennis Court structure.  Can't believe that huge zit on the nose of this campus still exists.

Yea, that building sticks out like a sore thumb. It is not part of the architecture like the rest of the campus. Does anyone know when it was built?

Fair points, forgot about the Copperheads and such.

That's what indoor tennis courts look like.

I know I know.  Played in 'em for a long time.  But, 200+ years of predominantly brick buildings and one bizarre rubber tent.  Uhg.  Every time I'm waiting for my tee time I stare at that thing and chuckle.  Amazing its there.

If the Copperheads wanted the fence repaired they should pay for it. Since when does our university support "summer baseball"
How much do they charge to attend one of those games?

Well seeing how you have #1 a safety liability issue #2 the Copper Heads are affiliated with the University, from it's Managers to its lab environment for the Sports Administraion program. Fixing the fence should not have taken 7+ months. #3. The Copperheads were not at fault for tearing up and hence not liable for repairs. The facility is University property.

I'm sure the Copperheads pay something to rent the facility - you're absolutely right, that should've been fixed before.

Pretty ridiculous not to fix the baseball field fence already.  The local high school/community park fields where I live does these type of field repairs every few years when needed.  Wouldn't  think it would be that big of a deal for a college to get done.  A few thousand dollars maybe?

Back on topic, I think the IPF is going to really going help recruiting when it's done.  But do you think it will be used as a primary practice facility during the season, or will we still mostly practice outdoors?

Standard practice. Penn put these up right next to Franklin Field...

...and uncovered....

Brick could easily have been built around them.

HA.....  let me comment on all of the prior buildings of mention as I have experienced all of them.

Old Baker -  The downstairs and Front room were what made Old Baker the place to go.  With the bowling alley and pool tables in the basement, usually able to hear the band or music upstairs it just had a feel to it.

Go look at any picture of the pool table area downstairs and it will make you think of the movie "Color of Money".

Grover -   To see Grover now and know what Grover was is just amazing.. The largest rectangular room in exsistance (to me at least) with 5 basketball courts in the middle.  A 15-20 foot hall way around 3 sides that got very narrow at the far end with the racquet ball courts.  Weight room was crazy in that building.  It also had 2 ping pong tables that you could test your wills against some pretty good international students.

Aquatic building - I don't feel this building is beyond its years.  crazy to hear that its 20 years old, but like some have said it was only 8 years old when they started the talk of the Ping center and 11 when it was done.

Ping Center - I actually worked in the Ping Center for a while while at Ohio.  Great building for what it is meant to be, but could have been so much more in some areas.

New Athletic building they are going to build - The reason they just now went out asking what the students would like in there is because they know that in the end the students are going to pay for that building. I think it already came out that it was going to cost the next years students more because of it.

So really all the talk of improving buildings and needing new stadiums is a fun 'What if?" type game...but unless the folks posting that information just sold Dell back to Mr. Dell for $24 billion and feel like paying for it all...remember the cost of improvements, most of the time, falls on the students.  And some students who won't even get to use the buildings.

And gold could have been used on the toilet seats.  Do you know what the incremental cost of masonry construction is?

When was Grover Center renovated? Having known five courts wasn't enough in Grover, why did they build ONLY FIVE COURTS IN PING???? I have to say that Ping needs at least seven basketball courts, one or two dedicated volleyball courts, a swimming pool...., and a bigger free weight room. Last night I went to play basketball, and only two courts were open as two courts were used for intramural basketball and one for volleyball. If they built three more courts on the west side, plus building a second free weight room on the west side, none would ever complain about Ping.

Grover was renovated I believe in 99 or 00.  I went back in 2001 and it was finished.  It at least smelled like it was still somewhat new.

The old Grover was also open to the public.  So the university probably took into account that many locals went and played on the courts inside Grover.

So if the majority of the court time was taken up with locals using them, obvious pick up formats were used to rotate win your stay, then the university probably figured that once the Ping Center was built and Student only they wouldn't need more than 5 courts.    Doesn't ping have 7- 8 courts?  I thought there were basketball nets inside the Inside walled areas where indoor soccer is played.

They have "seven courts". Four are Basketball courts at all times. One of the basketball courts that's hardwood has a volleyball net in the middle that is up all the time. the two all-purpose courts, one has goals for indoor soccer, and the other has three badminton nets up at all times in which they never lower the hoops or allow basketball to play in them. Plus some intramural team is using them constantly. The problem is just intramural taking up courts.

Ping is not "student only."  Faculty, staff, and area alumni can use it if they pay an outrageous fee.  I know that because I did that for about five years when a group of guys from the medical school used to play noontime basketball.  We had a few regulars who were students as well.

Not true. If no one is using the court you can ask an employee to lower the hoops for you and they will happily oblige. My friends and I did it all the time.

Received an email update from the AD yesterday concerning the IPF.  Some thoughts and surprises:

1.  No contractor selected yet.

2.  Construction to be authorized in April, so guessing site prep won't even begin until then

3.  Somehow this will be ready for use in December

4.  Pepsi logos to appear on the field and on a scoreboard in the facility.  Guessing they hit up Pepsi hard for funds

5.  Field design in rendering has full attack cat logo at 50 and block "OHIO" in end zones.

6.  This is a bare bones building based on drawings.

Not many bricks, but it sounds like some detail depends on bids.

To use as a building time reference in my neighborhood I was told by a builder they could put up a townhouse in 88 days, start to finish. That is including a structure with a finished interior. The IPF is not going to have a finished interior. How fast could a warehouse be thrown up? Six months of construction time is possible.
