No question about it. You go for two there. I was yelling it when they looked indecisive.

It's not #18s fault...didn't the coaching staff know the time and score. Nobody should have been back there given that situation and I too was screaming that at the TV before the punt.. CMU only had one TO left so it was game over at that time who cares where we get the ball. Even the announcers were left searching for words...that play is on the staff!
BS, you simply catch the ball! Chancing that ball being downed at the foot line and the opportunity for a safety would be stupid. It's a ball, you catch it! Simple.

Just my opinion I thought it was stupid to go for two. Even more so to burn a time out in doing so. Could have used that time out at the end and if you only needed 3 instead of 6 would have made getting a score more manageable.

Also did I  mention i hate instant replay. I wish they would get rid of it.

The timeout before the play was a killer, need to always have a 2-pt play in your pocket.

Thank you billy, I guess we have the same play card! That was one the staff got right but the team was not prepared to run it. Thus wasted time out. Again, that is on the staff or whoever handles the special team for XPs.

Agreed, I can disagree with a lot of things from yesterday, going for two is not one of them. The TO was tough to swallow.

So we follow what is written blindly because we refuse to think for ourselves?

Going fro two to get up six MIGHT make sense when there is enough time for many possessions and it would make sense in the final minute or minute and a hlaf.  It takes about 30 of though to see that it is wrong when there is plenty on time for one possession by each team but almost assuredly not 3 possessions left.  Its is wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.  Hopefully were are smarter than a chart.  More complex charts exist than that that point to how many possessions are left in the game and how many scoring chances are likely to be left and those charts won't tell you to go for two there.

Ok, find me one of these complex charts that says you kick there. Let's see a little supporting documentation to your claim.

Here is the complex chart, and it says go for two, notes NFL teams kick, but we are not playing in the NFL.

I don't even know where to start with all that happened yesterday....

- Cops on the Pedan Roof directing bike cops to tailgates all around the Convo and Pedan Lots saying beer in a glass or coolers will not be allowed going forward. Tickets will be issued. Good luck with that. I'll spend my time uptown until kickoff. Expect tons of bitter folks addressing this with the brass. Way to go Athens! Eliminate an atmosphere that has only taken 10 years to build. Between that and the tow truck snipes, these Jack Pine Willies will succeed in keeping alumni away.

- When this team came out of the tunnel, there was zero intensity from any player. I actually thought I missed the entrance until I heard the motorcycle!

- Some of these guys seem to have lost the edge. It may be a good thing to get some new blood in the starting lineups. I am not going to call out players by name. If you have been watching games the last year and a half, you know who I mean.

- Is this our program? Build up some excitement and lose every year at home to the likes of CMU this year, Ball State and Kent in the past few years?

It's just depressing. After 25+ years as a Bobcat and spending time and money to follow our boys with dedication, yesterday was another blow that makes it hard to jump in 100% these days.

Many we can lay an egg with the best of them. It's bad enough I am also a Reds fan. They have provided a quota reaching number of letdowns to fill a lifetime. Not to mention similar lackluster efforts from coaches and players that were less than acceptable.

All of the sudden (or maybe we knew it) we would be on the wrong side of a score against the top teams in the East and West Divisions. BG and Buffalo on the road look like certain L's at this point.

Maybe the Cops are doing me a favor now that I think about it. I could be a sign to find something else to do with my Saturdays.

Yet, Ohio ended up with a timeout it didn't even use.

That will be his problem BillyTheCat.

Does anyone now of a campus that tickets non-disorderly tailgaters with beer in a cup?

I'm sure it happens but I have not been to such a campus. Oxford, Columbus, Huntington, UC, etc. it's not even considered.

Maybe Schaus has a profit sharing deal with the new head police clown.

Hell, I can drink beer at any number of Cincinnati HS Game tailgates and don't need a cup when I tailgate with my Blue Devil buddies back in Z-ville.

My view on this won't matter. Many of the locals (who are business owners) will have a lot more to say about this dumba** move.

EDIT: Seems like a huge trap to set everyone up for the Miami Weekend. Once they warned everyone, it's instant ticket now. Joke.

Excellent post.

Over-emotional is no good (hello stupd cow!) but we are so unemotional--another reason that our home crowds are dull, uninvolved.

(And emotion/spirit is NOT jawing at the other team.)

I agree with BTCs three posts on this subject.  Even before we came out on the field for the extra point attempt I was telling the guy next to me that we should go for two because of their bad kicker.

Seeing how Cincinnati is largely catholic and German, I'd imagine they drink at youth league games. And no need for the AA link.

I've been saying it for a while now...but we have young guys who seem clearly better and more athletic than the starters.

Does football for dummies say send your cb back to catch a punt near your end zone at the end of the game?

Well actually he would be the punt returner, not a corner back on the punt return team. That is simple, you just catch the ball! Travis didn't, it's not like he muffed it on purpose, the young man has made many plays as a Bobcat and made many sacrifices, same with our coaches, not throwing them under the bus for dropping a punt.

And also the muff occurred at the 21yd line, not "near your endzone" and yes you field a punt from the 20, or anything outside the 10yd line as long as its a catchable ball and that was.

This is why I rarely post here anymore. Having a beer at a tailgate does not make one an abusive drunk.

Many here take a post to the extreme. My point was simple to many of those here that know me. It's a joke that we want to set some temporary standard (and it will be temporary) to not allow people to tailgate and enjoy one of life'simple pleasures that 99% of the colleges across the US share - atmosphere, friends, a beer and food before a football game.

Thanks to BillyTheCat for getting it right. Come to a HS Football Game in Cincinnati. You'll see what I mean. 1-2 beers does not condemn anyone. It's called freedom.

The punt was muffed on the 39.

As soon as a cop threatens me with a ticket for responsibly having a beer at my tailgate party, I'm packing up my stuff and going home (along with the 70-80 that I've talked into buying season tickets over the past decade)

The team was flat, the offense is predictable, the crowd was awful and the game was boring. I love Homecoming, but hate the Homecoming crowd inside the stadium. It's not the 80's or 90's anymore. The band isn't the main event.

Also, I think I'd like to get to know Diamond Cat. He sounds like a fun guy.

I second that. This isn't Palmer Fest, when they have liquor control agents on the roof of the bank with binoculars peering into the liquor store and then stop people with beer heading to Palmer.

This is a Bobcat football game.

Tailgate party (at Tailgreat Park!).

Lots of supportive fans and alumni that pay good money to the university and know how to celebrate responsibly.

Start interfering with that and see what happens, McDavis. We'll pay the "open container" ticket, and you'd better hope it was worth it, because that will be the last money you'll ever see from many alumni...

I second this notion. Posting on this message board can seem like constant one-upsmanship. I guess that's the nature of message boards...

The failed two and the dropped punt were disappointing but those plays did not cause the loss of the game. It was the unispired slow start of the offense in the first half that put us in that situation. However, we would have stolen a victory had we fielded that punt or just let it bounce.

The grand entrance of the team left a lot to be desired and I think it effected their play in the first half. The team wasn't even standing in the tunnel when the lead cheerleader with the giant flag took off. I think he saw the captains coming out of the tunnel for the coin toss at midfield and he jumped the gun. The rest merely followed as per usual. Either that or he he was cued too early. I guess you could say that it was a premature egress action.

At any rate, the team kind of streamed out so I think it took them out of their usual flow and there was not the usual time to get them fired up while waiting in the tunnel. I don't think they caught up with the normal game flow until halftime.
