Fire anorris for trying to bring positivity into this discussion.

And Chuck Amato, for the NC State shaft job in the monsoon.

Thanks for reminding me.

Is it too late to fire the officials who cost us the game on the bogus holding call that caused us to have to re-punt the ball from 15 yards further back and led to their game wining return as time expired?

anorris--That play was six from the moment it was called in the huddle.  Some plays are such a break from what a team does that there is no way to defend them.  I remember the first time that the Browns did the hand-off-to-running-back-who-pitches-back-to-quarterback-for-bomb-to-receiver.  It was clearly six from the moment the running back stopped and pivoted to pitch it back to the qb.

Yes, it was a great call.

(Should we have saved it for a more stout opponent...Or will future oppo's be less strong up the middle at the goal line in order to have to account for that play?)

Matt Campbell for blowing a 21 point lead at BG?

edit: As soon as I post this, they convert a 4th and 9 for a TD.

Don't want to fire anybody over this but punting from inside the opponent's 40 is shameful.  We had the wind today, 4th & short at about the Fiami 38 and instead of going for it or trying a long FG, we punt.  Yaz has a leg and I think he can hit from 50+.  Let's give him a shot.

Agreed. Sometimes you show confidence by going in that situation.

Molnar of U. Mass? Going for 2 at 31-30 at home, 0:22 left. At home you normally want OT.

Why would anyone ever punt against redhawk?

Seriously, the only reason I can think of would be to practice under game (somewhat) conditions.

I can see punting to pin them at the one so their punter could get off a 99-yd kick.

Punting inside an opponent's 40 when the Cats have a lead seems like something of a Coach Solich trademark. Unless my memory is playing tricks again, it seems to happen at least once each season.  I recall one game in which he ordered a punt under that circumstance, and the opponent then drove the field and scored.

BTW, re that TT spike.  I saw a coach directing him to spike.

The TT spike is the first time I recall him under center taking the direct snap. Nice to know we have then when needed.

Maybe that's why we had to call the timeout right afterwards.  Everyone was confused after being in a formation not in the playbook.

I nominate the concessions manager at Peden who can't provide hot drinks to purchase beyond quarter number one.

It's not any better in the Tower Club.  Just horrendously slow staff that seems very disorganized and totally at a loss when it comes to making extra hot chocolate and coffee for a cold-weather game.

You have my vote.  I still cant seem to understand where the $150K (i think it was) for concession upgrades went.

from http://www.athensohiotoday.com/sports/ohiouniversity/park...

Parking won’t be the only change for fans on game days. Hauser said AVI, Ohio’s contracted concession vending company, has invested $150,000 to upgrade the concession experience inside Peden Stadium.

Among the upgrades are more places to buy food and drinks, new hawking equipment for vendors wandering through the stands, and televisions added to the concession stands located under both concourses. The TVs will offer the live feed of the game currently being played.

“There are more points of sale, that’s a good thing,” Hauser said. “There are more places to get in line to get service items.

“(The investment) shows how serious AVI was in trying to make the experience better for all our fans who show up on game day.”

Sometimes I think we're just limited by the amount of physical space in those concession caves.  I'm sure they anticipated extra coffee and hot chocolate being necessary, but there's only so much space. Let's put another coffee maker back there, or another hot chocolate tank, but do we sacrifice the pretzels? Hot dogs? candy?

The extra food stands are good, but they might benefit from a separate beverage-only stand under the north stands on each side. and on a day like saturday, it would be only hot stuff.

It's pretty obvious that there has been investment in the concessions... the tvs are great, and they have actual cash registers (that s**t isn't cheap) instead of someone doing math on a notepad.

One hundred and fifty thousand dollars worth of upgrades should equal enough concessions for fans beyond the first 15 minutes of the game. Cash registers are useless if there's nothing to sell.

Apparently, Carl Pelini. Speaking of him, we has some complaints here earlier about Ohio using a spike and a timeout on the same play. Earlier this year Pelini called for his team to spike the ball with 6 seconds left... on fourth down. Oops.

Really, though, he seemed to be doing a good job there, and had the team improved a lot in 2 years.

Well, when you're coached by Cheech and Chong you don't expect completely rational decisions:

"Hey, Chong, let's have the QB spike the ball to stop the clock."

"Well, Cheech, it's fourth down."

"I'm the head coach, Chong, and my head tells me it's third down . . .and boy I like those funky light patterns coming off the scoreboard.  What's that official doing giving the ball to the other team.  I told the QB to spike it."

"But, it was fourth down.  I told you that, but you went ahead and gave the QB the spike sign."

"Please pass me another one of those brownies," Chong.  "I can see it now, we are winning this thing.  Can't you see all of those players running to the goal line along that beam of light coming from the scoreboard?  Oh, it's a beautiful thing. Hordes of players, black, white, red, yellow, green, magenta, purple all running down the beam of light with FAU uniforms on.  All carrying balls and all scoring.  We are wining 150-20.  I'm just the greatest coach to ever coach this sport. .  ."
