the UMass game last year was the first sign that something wasn't quite right with this team. I predict we come full circle and get rolled on our own field by a glorified FCS team while our seniors stand on the sidelines and laugh. 6-6 y'all.

I am staying positive on this game.
Besides the fact that UMASS is an awful team, I believe we might just see Frank send a message to players who he knows is not giving full effort. Remember, he needs to send a clear message to the returning guys.
We can beat the Minute Men with our 2nd team, that's how bad UMASS is.
I expect most all seniors will probably start this game, at least for the first series on O & D, then be replaced by the regular starters.

Umass is on its sixth string running back, and since it has been strong running teams that have torched our D, we should be safe on Friday. Not that a victory and 7-5 should give anyone warm fuzzies.

For the players, I hope 7-5 still leaves a bad taste in their mouths compared to what might've been.  The seniors can't do anything about it.  The returnees should be well-motivated to make something of next year, although I'm not sure the talent will be there to do that.

For us fans, 7-5 should be a disappointment.  A decade ago we would have given a certain left body part to be 7-5, but the expectations have been much higher the past three or four years.  Last year, we had tons of injuries as the reason for 8-4.  When players got healthy for the bowl, we had the team that was on the field for the first seven games, and it showed.  This season, the injuries weren't that much of a factor (everybody has injuries this time of year).  The level of skill and attitude took this team down, and that should sit poorly with everyone.

Those warm fuzzies are from the whiskey needed to forget the past month, not the overall record.

Look at UMass's sched.  They are horrible.  Horrible.

Beating them will prove very, very little.

So, I'd like to pre-thank the apologists who will bask in a victory over UMass telling us how indicative it is, how it wipes out the the stink that is this season.

How predictable.

This team has earned it's stench.

Again, Monroe, since the team could never beat UMass badly enough to satisfy you could I ask you to forgo the disappointed rants. How predictable. There are those associated with Ohio football who will be busting their butts on our behalf. Perhaps we might look for them and acknowledge them, encourage them.

Since our bubble screens haven't been working either, maybe it's time to try something I saw several teams do this weekend.  They fake the screen and have either the RB go into a pattern downfield beyond the screen or one of the WRs come off his block and head downfield.  There's usually an opening 8-10 yds downfield ahead of the screen, so it's been an easy pitch and catch.  Of course, the fake would require T2 to hang onto the ball a little longer without sitting down.  Maybe it would be something to run with Vick or Sprague.

My prediction will come after the first play, which of course will be Beau up the middle:

If he gets 3 or less we lose; 4 or more we win.

Everyone gets that you're PO'ed about this year. But to continue to regurgitate the same drivel gets old. Give it a rest. Or are you racing to see how soon you can hit 5000 posts?  Sure would be nice if we had an "Ignore" feature here.

And IMO you're not a true fan of Ohio.  We have a game remaining and it's U Mass. Real fans are hoping for a W.  And you seem to imply a win, no matter how convincing, still makes this year a failure. 20 years ago an alum would be ecstatic if we had a chance for a 7 - 5 year. Sadly, now we have some fair weather fans who are only fans if we play every game as they expect.  Most every Division I football team loses game they should win and sometimes hits a rough patch, including Ohio.

Why are you so angry?  I have a different point of view.  And I'm usually about the biggest O H I O guy here.

Almost no significant victories in the last year and a half and quite a recent collapse--those are pretty much facts.  So, 7-5 is no balm.

Don't blame me.  Blame the team's performance.

Monroe. You should not have to ask. He was quite clear. How predictable. Monroe. You might be the biggest donor here and that might get you through lots of Ohio doors, but, here you constantly disrespect those with the different point of view. Your favorite game is not football, it is the blame game. How predictable. Should Carrie or Foster set Ohio records vs UMASS they will be meaningless because, well, you know .... How predictable. Should a UMASS player make an amazing play there will be no credit to them just that Ohio made him look like an All American. How predictable. Oh. sorry, nearly forgot, thank you for your service.

The difference is that I've recognizing reality since the CMU game  You can rant against me all you want but the truth is still the truth despite your objections.

You win; everyone gets a trophy.  We just don't get the MACC one.  As usual.

I agree with you.
I suspect 7-5 will not sit well with the vast majority of this team.  I don't think the skill level is really our problem.  Seems to me the root cause is simple.  There are some players, including their QB who gave up weeks ago.   We can speculate why but in the end we will never really know.    It pains me to say this because I've fought to defend TT saying it's not his fault even going as far as to blame a stubborn OC.  Regardless of what he may think of the situation, as a captain you can't quit… Period.  To steal a quote from my favorite movie "Attitude reflects leadership… Captain"

It just sickens me to know what this team is capable of and what it has been reduced to..

Question for Monroe; this is what lawyers would call a hypothetical:

NIU goes BCS bowling.*   Ohio, therefore, sneaks into a bowl game against the #8 B1G team.  OHIO creams said B1G team in the bowl by 30 points. Was the season a total loss?  Would you be happy about the outcome?   Would you look more favorably toward next year and the future of OHIO football?

*much more likely now than last week, given the latest BCS poll, with NIU #14 and Fresno State #16, probably because the computers loved Iowa's victory over Michigan, which improved NIU's SOS.

We open as 17pt favorites.  FWIW we also went into the Kent game as 61/2pt favorites. Based on our recent history of not covering large spreads, barely eeking out wins against large spreads or losing against some prohibitive underdogs BET at your own risk!

The NIU to BCS situation changes the bowl math favorably for Ohio. At best Ohio is the 6th MAC team in if it can finish with a 7-5 record. Ohio won't go to Detroit over Toledo or BG who drool at the chance to play there. Boise State is #4 in the MWC standings. They may stay at home in the post season which makes it highly desirable for Buffalo to play there. San Diego State should play in the Poinsettia Bowl sitting #2 or #3 in the conference. Its going to be a tough game out in San Diego whomever they put in there but that might be where Ohio ends up because of the travel. That game in Birmingham is January 4th. That would give Travis Carrie a player who played for the Bobcats in 2008 a chance to play for the Bobcats in 2014!

OCF--A bowl win against BigHoweverMany would be nice.  But I can't see anything removing the stain that the last three games are, given that those three have put us in k-word territory.

I certainly hope that Coach can right the team and O H I O can return to the paragon of foot-ball to which it belongs.

It's OUr turn.  It's OUr time.  I wanna see some gusto out on the old gridiron.

What I find tiring about his posts is that he regurgitates the same stuff over and over and usually on multiple threads. But I never see any constructive criticism nor any ideas on what we might do to turn things around. When it's all negativity it gets old real quick. And in response to him ... I'm not angry, not sure where/how he read that from my post. I think he gets defensive when someone questions him and then goes back on the attack as if his opinion is not only correct, but the only one worthy of consideration.

Hey Wes, you may think the perspective is ignorant but I am just stating a fact.  I've watched this league for 40 years and other than NIU it is now a glorified 1AA level conference.  Hell, I bet NDSU and YSU would beat 7-8 of the MAC teams.  "If ya play like em ya might as well join em".

The league is going nowhere and none of the members are BCS quality attendance wise or resource wise. Unfortunate but true.  Just a fact..
