Is there any way we can make a bowl game if Northern Illinois loses? What if both SMU and Rutgers lose tomorrow?
.
Simply put, the answer is no.

On to basketball season.

I'm depressed . . . this is just a horrible day for the MAC.   Why did we ever let this Bowling Green Normal School into the MAC, anyway?

Whatever. It's just a game.

It's not just a game. It's roughly $500,000 for our athletic department down the drain.

Unfortunately i don't think we deserved to go to a bowl game despite how well the seniors have played over the past 4 years. Its just another disappointment in the second half of the season.

I guess I'm the outlier.  Good for BG.  They earned tonight's win-it's not their fault Northern Illinois's overrated with a porous defense.

I'd love to see OHIO win a MACC someday!

Memo to Dave Clawson-I hear the Boise State job's available!

T2's response to us getting destroyed by BG was "It's just a game." That's what I was referencing.

NIU is a fraud that fooled the country for almost the entire season. They got exposed by a better all around team tonight. I wonder how BG would fare against one of the real big boy schools. They could probably beat most of the big ten this year. I hope the get the chance to prove themselves against one in a bowl game.

Well, next year we get $1,000,000 from the playoff system just for showing up and smiling.  Oh, wait, it's more like $900,000 because we have split the pot 13 ways.  Can't we just get rid of EMU?

It was really nice to watch one team play the game with passion and enthusiasm.  One thing I will say is we better get some fire in our team...starting at the top.  I'm an old guy too but I am afraid FS and Company could never get OUr team as enthusiastic as Clawson and his staff have BG.  And I think much of that is their we are "older and more experienced so we don't do that emotion thing".

Football, folks, is a game meant to be played with EMOTION!

BG got creamed by Indiana, and lost a close game to Mississippi State.

NIU beat Iowa and beat Purdue, the later not meaning too much.

NIU is pretty darn good football team.  They didn't play well tonight, but they are certainly not a fraud.  I'll bet whoever they play in a bowl game will get blown out.

Did you miss the Penn State game last year?  Or, the Marshall game this year?  FS and company can get the team fired up.  Or, could get them fired up before all the presumably internal problems developed.

I'm talking MAC Championship caliber.  This staff has been around 9 years now and hasn't done that.  Clawson, young and hungry, got it done in 5 after winning only 2 games the first year.  He has built a MAC CHAMPIONSHIP program and FS and Co. have not.

Clawson has found the perfect run/pass offense that can be wide open or ball control. It's pretty amazing actually considering some of the key players they are missing. And that's not even to mention their stout defense.
I think we need to be much more aggressive all the way around. Players want more than the same pistol offense and zone coverage schemes that we seem fall back to every year. Time to evolve or we will get lapped by some of these creative young minds like Clawson.

BuddyLee your post is right on too.  They always say if you aren't getting better you are falling behind.  This year was a giant step backwards.  Now we have Miami, Buffalo and BG that have won MACC games during the FS era.

The question is: when will the staff get 'er done?

BG really is not losing a lot next year too which is pretty scary. Plus some of the better recruiting in the MAC. I'm about 99.9% sure they will be picked to win the East.

They will be favored but their QB will stop running and then he'll bone head vs Miami next season then by his senior year he'll just sit down!  Only the MAC West QB's improve year over year--in the East, they peak during their sophomore seasons.

BGSUCKS Fans, savour your championship because it will be years again before you taste it once more, but please, tell us how it tastes!

Hopefully, OHIO will play Toledo and either Ball or NIU for their 2 instead of the easy street they've recently had.  In 2014 will OHIO continue to be owned by Kent and Toledo?

It is time to have an OHIO offense where the QB goes under the center occassionally.  That BG play where the QB does a little faking and the TE goes into the backfield and then slips out into the opposite flats is like LIGHT YEARS beyond OHIO play designing yet it was so simple.  And bully for QB Johnson for having a pair to take off and burn the defense--must have watched 2011 tapes of the former OHIO qb.

The NIU D was not good all season and that 1 fact caught up with them in this game.
BG appeared more energized for the entire game.
NIU appeared a little like us in our games....un-emotional with an approach that this was just another game.
BG came out and took the fight right at them and NIU just could not match the emotion and level of energy and intensity.
Nothing is ever a given.....you have to earn it!

+1,000,000!!!  Exactly right and spot on!   And continuing my outlier ways, I think Coach Solich is well aware of this and will adapt his offense to the players that are returning next year.  Solich does not steadfastly adhere to one offensive system-during his one year hiatus after he was let go @ Nebraska he studied several different systems.  He did so again after the New Orleans Bowl debacle when he visited Troy in the offseason to get a firsthand look at the system they ran.  So he definitely can adapt.  The question is, can Albin adapt in his playcalling?

Now that the bitter sting of the season is starting to wear off (mega thank yous to the OHIO Women's MAC Championship Volleyball team and the men's b-ball team's nice start to the season for that!), I can't wait for the next football season to start.

As always, Go OHIO!!
