Is there any way we can make a bowl game if Northern Illinois loses? What if both SMU and Rutgers lose tomorrow?
.
Simply put, the answer is no.

On to basketball season.

Actually, I don't see why SMU and Rutgers losing doesn't get us in.

The fact that we're even discussing whether or not we could go to a bowl is proof that there are way too many bowls to begin with.

I wish we had a coach that innovated actively, instead of reactively.

Paul, just the stuff, of which, Monroe was apologizing in advance to the recruit's parent.

What point are you trying to make?  (I'm not saying that with rancor...I just can't figure out what you're trying to say here and how it ties to my one post to an incoming recruit's parent.)

I do think Coach and staff can innovate.  I think that they scored very poorly on this count this year.

Well, if it really were a merit based system them I'd be all for limiting it to those that really deserve it.  It would make sense.  What we have had for 20 years is a system to reward those that really deserve it plus those that don't but happen to have their campus next to where a bowl game is played.  To me, the third option, letting everyone play, makes more sense than the second.  I say either eliminate 20 bowls or add 3 or 4 more.

It think the whole Rutgers losing scenario is pretty unlikely.  It isn't that Rutgers is unbeatable.  They aren't.  They aren't a great team at all.  Its just that I have a hard time imagining that a 2-9 team from USF is going to go into New Jersey during a cold snap on a December 7 night game with nothing to play for at all, whereas Rutgers does, and play with any kind of enthusiasm and execution level.

Uh, I'd start on the defensive side.  We seriously need to stop somebody sometime.  Multiple looks from BG on offense, some I, some pistol or shotgun.  There offense appeared much more diverse than ours.  We've got a lot of work to do to catch up to them!

I agree.  I'd be all for fewer bowls except that they'd eliminate the bowls that a 10-2 MAC team goes to, and keep the ones that a 6-6 Big Whatever team goes to.

I guess I'm the outlier.  Good for BG.  They earned tonight's win-it's not their fault Northern Illinois's overrated with a porous defense.

I'd love to see OHIO win a MACC someday!

Memo to Dave Clawson-I hear the Boise State job's available!

He'll be hired by Wake before the end of the weekend,

OK so it took until Monday

F*ck Bowling Green. They have screwed the whole conference out of BCS money and basically embarassed the conference's showpiece team on ESPN. I hate this

What an ignorant thing to say. BG didn't screw the conference, they did what any team should have tried to do in that position and that is win a championship. Good for them. They beat the hell out of NIU too. What, if we were in that position, would you have felt we should have lost to NIU to help the MAC get more money? Give me a damn break. The MAC got unlikely BCS money last year. Further, BG didn't embarrass the MAC's "showpiece team." They proved to actually be it and it was on display for all to see. We certainly saw it firsthand ourselves when we played them. NIU said after the game that BG was the best team they played all year and it showed.

I'm not angry at BG for pasting NIU. I'm angry at BG for getting pasted by Indiana. Still can't figure that sh** out.

Well I'm angry about us getting pasted by BG, UB and KSU. I still can't figure that sh** out either.

The past few days, when I think about the MACCG, the movie "61*" comes to mind.  It was about Roger Maris chasing Babe Ruth's home run record.  The baseball commissioner at the time was Ford Frick, a former sportswriter and (it was later learned) a former ghostwriter for Babe Ruth, so he and Ruth apparently were good friends.  It was Frick who declared that in order to break Ruth's record, Maris would have to get his 61st home run in 154 games, the same number of games that were played in 1927.  In the movie, as Maris makes an out in his final at-bat in game 154, they depict Frick watching the TV, scotch in hand, smiling and snarling at Maris.  In my mind, I picture the BCS snobs doing the same thing last Friday night.
