Ours is a serif font. Theirs is a sans serif font. It's not the same.

Anyone want to send the College Book Store link to Oklahoma's legal affairs office just to test the it's-not-the-same theory? :-)

I wonder if they have an "OU-Oh Yes" chant.  I mean, technically not the same.

Well, you do know that our cheerleaders are not allowed to lead or even participate in our version of that cheer.  I believe that this is at least in part due to the legal issues related to those Okies.  The other issue is probably related to focusing on the OHIO brand.

No evidence to back this up, but my belief has always been that it is the OHIO brand thing more than the worry about Oklahoma thing. I feel like Oklahoma is pretty okay with us using OU since it is also our name and we are not pursuing the same audience.

Not sure about that, made OHIO Baseball change their hats about 15 years ago.

Not necessarily wanting to bring this thread back up, but I am getting quite annoyed by something that has been going on ALL season and this is the only group that will understand my frustration!

Every time the cameras show the OSU cheerleaders, they are constantly shouting "Go Ohio!" Makes me sick! These people just don't get it!

I'm not so sure legal issues are the case for that. It is more about branding direction from the Athletics Dept.

Want some cheese with that whine? Seriously?

The agreement specifically states Cheerleader uniforms can say Ohio, so why can they not "yell" Ohio.

The OU - OH YEA cheer came from the fact that the Cheerleaders can not say 'OU' because Oklahoma has the trademark.  After we won against Ohio State...Ohio was very carefull not to infringe on tademarks of other school so we could not chant 'ou.'  The 'oh yea' part was allowed.

Wrong.  The agreement said that Ohio State cheerleaders could wear "OHIO" on uniforms then in use, but that new uniforms would say "Ohio State."  It did take them a long time to retire those old uniforms, but I haven't seen them in several seasons.  Cheering "Ohio" at Ohio State is just plain stupid -- not to mention arrogant.

The person who is going to worry about what cheer is used by cheerleaders is concerned about such important issues as this:

"
NIU = Shuttle Bus; OU = No Shuttle Bus
   Posted: 12/2/2011 4:28:50 PM

Arrived in Detroit about 45 minutes ago.  Checked into the nice Marriott Hotel with a view of the Detroit River and Canada.  We saw a ton on NIU fans and marked NIU shuttle bus stops.  We inquired about Ohio shuttle buses to the stadium and were told there weren't any.  Way to go Ohio Athletic Office -- very bush league, IMHO. My wife is even using a word she hates that begins with "s" and ends with "k" to describe the situation.  Hint, it's a word usually reserved for use in references to Oxford Tech.

If you don't like Ohio fans voicing frustration over another school using our name, then don't enter a thread about said school using our name!

No you shouldn't be mad. That is petty! Just educate and inform. And you really think people pay attention to cheerleaders.

Actually, from what I've heard it comes from President McDavis. Whether or not his opinion derives from legal issues, I'm not sure.

McDavis led it himself at the O$U vs Ohio pep rally the night before the game.  I was there.  I was shocked at how much he was getting into it.

No, it doesn't. The compromise in the agreement, finalized over a decade ago, was that the cheerleader uniforms would not have to be changed immediately, but once they purchased new uniforms, they would have to say ohio state.

I'm saying the cheerleaders uniforms changed, yes....However, the fact that some are going to get bent out of shape over the cheerleaders participating in an OHIO cheer, or shouting OHIO is simply petty.

I don't think it is petty. Any single topic on this issue may seem unimportant or petty but they are all examples of the larger issue... We are Ohio. I want to be called Ohio. I don't want our little brother to be called Ohio.

My two favorite Ohio shirts are "We are Ohio, you are state" and "The Real O-H-I-O"

They bring the issue to light.

This was what you first said:

You were corrected first by OCF:

If, when you are wrong, you simply admit it, everyone can simply move on. Rather than admit an error, you resorted to trying to distract and avoid.

First distract:
BillyTheCat wrote:expand_more
The person who is going to worry about what cheer is used by cheerleaders is concerned about such important issues as this:
" NIU = Shuttle Bus; OU = No Shuttle Bus...

Then avoid:
BillyTheCat wrote:expand_more
And they did change. So issue is?

In the process, you only reduce your own credibility.

You obviously have continued to show your pleasure at supporting OHio State under ever psuedonym you have ever used and the poster above is right. You are just trying to distract from the issue.....you can keep putting historical stuff up here from days when branding did not matter as muchand it is still wrong to refer to them as OHIO....they are state. Indiana is in Bloomington ISU is in Terra Haute. Michigan is in Ann Arbor and State is in Lansing. Most states do not have a Bully located near the state house beating up on every other institutionin the state.\

IUPUI was never given permission to have residence life or dorms on campus for fear that their proximity to the state house would give them the same advantages as tO$U has in Columbus. The board at IU and PU constantly guards and keeps IUPUI in a second citizen mode because of lessons learned from COw town.

I just think the entire thing is silly.  As personal experiences of people in post above, this is not a problem of great magnitude and shows petty jealousy about many trivial issues.  None of these are serious issues worth getting worked up about, nor are they any direct violation by OSU.  We should be more worried about winning Championships than what cheerleaders are wearing.
