Some tough losses in there. Twice in Detroit, twice losing at home because of fumbles in the 4th quarter. We owe them.
I was at the 2006 MACC game and the home losses in 2008 and last year. Every one of them stunk. Haven't seen our men beat the Chips yet.
It'll come down to turnovers. When two teams are evenly matched, it nearly always does. (Excepting the opener this year against Kent, though I think we were a much better team and our fumble woes made it closer than it should have been.)
It still hurts when I think of Boo Jackson's fumble at CMU's goal line in the last quarter of the '08 game.
Agreed. As you know, the fumble came when Boo stretched - unnecessarily - for the goal line. No fumble, Ohio wins and that 4-8 season might have unfolded quite differently.
and don't forget that after that fumble Ohio's defense stopped CMU and forced them to punt. Ohio had the ball near mid field with 2 minutes left when Boo fumbled again on 1st down and CMU recovered. painful.
If you go back and look at the game recaps of losses that year you see a lot of devastating turnovers that really costs us several wins.
Yes, not least of which was Ohio's muffed punt when leading OSU going into the 4th quarter and just having forced OSU into a 3-and-out to begin that 4th.
it started in Wk1 @Wyoming, 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter, 1st and 10 on the WY 35, down 21-20, and we throw an interception. Game over. Gm 2 was @ OSU, Gm 3 was CMU, then came @ Northwestern for game 4.
N'western won 16-8 but Ohio missed 3 FGs from 42, 27(blocked), and 38(blocked). Ohio had 4 turnovers- 2 interceptions in NW endzone, 1 QB fumble on our own 10, and in the 4th quarter Brazill fumbled on the NW 18. Every single TO was devastating. Amazingly, our defense held a 3-0 NW teams to 280yds and caused 5 TOs.
The other retched loss that year was our only loss to Temple. After 3 quarters Temple had zero points and a total of just 45 yds of offense. Down 10-7 with 9 minutes left in the 4th Temple has 1st and goal at the Ohio 2yd line and comes away with zero points (missed FG). Ohio takes over on their own 20yd line with under 5 minutes left in the 4th. On the first play Boo fumbles and Temple recovers on the Ohio 18. They score another TD, Ohio loses 14-10.
2008 was a painful, painful year.
