On ESPN3, I get an occasional commercial for Dr. Pepper, but mostly I get "your event is at commercial break". Considering I'm a captive viewer, just sitting there, waiting to buy whatever they flash before my eyes, why isn't some commercial placed there? ;)

Seriously, I don't mind not seeing commercials, but I wonder why someone isn't buying them.
I've been seeing a lot more ads on ESPN3. I rarely see the "Your event is in a commercial break" screen. I feel like every break I see some combination of Microsoft Surface, Lexus, Gillette, State Farm, and Subway. The frequency is actually pretty annoying.

I might be seeing them more because I'm watching via Apple TV, rather than on my computer.

If half the season tickets holders would show up it sure helps. Talk about some "fair weather" (literally) fans. Can't tell you how many regulars didn't bother coming around me.

And after watching the game replay, I doubt there were 20k butts in the stands. I must admit i am one of the guilty ones that didn't show but that was because i was on the left coast and flying back to Ohio.

Crowd was scattered throughout. Holes in the season ticket areas, but at the same time it was almost full in the visiting team "elbow" with a bunch of youth football teams. Had a neighbor with season tickets who didn't come because of the weather...suspect he wasn't the only one. Which is a shame - they missed a pretty entertaining game.

using weather as an excuse is pretty pathetic! 50 degrees and dry is not bad for a mid-season football game! Besides the few hundred BA fans, our fan base absolutely stinks! Yes I'm glad to have the numbers, but after the first quarter, they all start filing out! I really don't get it! It happens every game too! They leave during blow outs (either way) during nice weather, and, like yesterday, during close exciting games!
it's being noticed too. We had some recruits and their families sitting behind us yesterday. They kept asking questions about the crowd, it was quite embarrassing! Of course it made me louder though! ;)

Can't blame a recruit for putting fan support on his list of pros/cons when selecting a college. Having said that, I would have to say Ohio has a leg up on its competition if that recruit's list of offers only includes MAC schools.

there are real reasons for not making it to every game. I had a birthday party to attend yesterday. When it is your granddaughters 5th birthday you don't miss it. Now if you want to complain about the blue hairs not making noise I will agree to that. However that is a problem at every college I have been to, d1 through d3.

It makes me nuts when I stand on 3rd down to have people behind me yell, "DOWN IN FRONT!" geez. Maybe we need to strike the words, "Stand up and cheer" from our fight song.

Guilty. I use the 1,000mi round trip to Athens as an excuse.
I'm also a fair-weather spectator.
I leave my unused tickets with friends in Athens, but they like to sit with the students & the 110.
I suspect the "official" attendance count includes season ticket sales regardless of their use.
My Alma Mater sells out 91,000+seats for every game.
I'm lucky if I can make one of those games each year.
Oh - yes; I'm a season ticket holder there as well...
My personal opinion is that the Athens OHIO athletic venue is one of the best in the country.
Be thankful for your blessings.

Interesting observation . . . If I go back and think about games where the students didn't leave at halftime in droves only two really come to mind: 1. the Pitt game in Frank's first year, and 2. the Akron November weekday game in November several years ago when we clinched our first MAC East Title. It was a white out on the student side, with the stands about 3/4 full for the whole game. Let me say that "back in the day" this student exodus phenomenon was not present. It seems to have started somewhere around the mid '70s.

Finally figured out who this poster is - the same guy who estimates the crowds for the annual Halloween block party. Almost full? Really - how about 40% full at best.

Hey, I sit near midfield. It's not like I'm walking around checking out how each section looks. It looked that way from my perspective...

I don't blame guys like you. If you're a season ticket holders from that distance I give you big respect...we need more guys like you. The ones that bother me are those that live 15 min away and just decide to pass on the cold weather games.

New land travel record yesterday: Youngstown to Athens 2:57. I can't verify this as a record but I left home about 11:45 and was back home by 8:45. Seems like that is a record too. I stayed until the end of the game. Enjoyed every minute of watching our improving young Bobcats!

Pretty irresponsible if you ask me and nothing I'd be bragging about particularly when one of the more active BA attackers is in serious condition in the hospital from a traffic wreck. Hope you didn't have anyone else in the car.

I made it to Mt Pleasant (actually Clare, MI) in under 5 hours 2 weeks ago.

I will get home from a conference at Midnight this Friday. I fly into Pittsburgh arriving about midnight. I will post my time from PIT to WMU for your judgement.

Are you one of those Southeastern Ohio guys driving 60 mph in the passing lane?

Not sure how you link my driving in Eastern Ohio to the unfortunate accident involving Borna.

Good win. I actually laugh at the notion that we need an upper deck. The stadium finally doesn't look half empty for 1-2 games a year, and we wanna get back to those days already... Give me a packed 25k every time versus 35k that's 2/3 full.

As far as students leaving early, it's been discussed before but don't schedule head to head w OSU. I know that pisses some of you off, but the split allegiances are real. Why fight it?

Scheduling off big brother's cue is no longer possible. TV dictates when that school up north plays, and now TV dictates when we play on the internet.

The only promise that we won't go head to head is during midweek #MACtion.

There were an inordinate number of students that left campus this weekend. Last weekend was homecoming so they stick around and next weekend is Halloween so they stick around. This was a go home weekend.

Me as well as many people I know went home this weekend. We need to expand just for recruiting purposes. If we add a second deck it will look big time and recruits will like that. If we can get Peden to look similar to Marshall's stadium I would be satisfied. OUr fan base is going to continue to grow. Each year more and more Alumni are coming back for games. Kids who graduate now watched a relevant team while they were in school therefor more of them are going to be returning to watch once they're done. We need to expand now before it's too late. We lead the MAC in attendance and only have a 4-4 team............................ What happens when we start 6-2 7-1 8-0. we will have more than we can handle.

Happy to eat crow on my prediction. Nice win, and one I didn't really see coming. Akron is like the Browns. They really don't know how to win yet. They have some quality talent here and there -- enough to surprisingly crush a team from Pittsburgh every now and then -- but still a culture of losing.

As to adding capacity to Peden, are people being serious? A hugely expensive project for a department running in the red is never wise, but there's also absolutely no need for it. Furthermore, any investment in NCAA football is stupid since no one has any idea what the fast-changing landscape will look like in the coming years.

Its not a project on the horizon but athletic department's always want to better the stadium when they can. I see an upgraded student section with another 4,000 seats viable with the student section overflowing almost every game. Upgraded section with better concessions and bathrooms. If you want to attract more students and get those who are there to stay longer an upgrade will help. For schools in the MAC that usually bring 500 students to the game there is no cost benefit but with Ohio averaging 6,000 students and going as high as 8,000 for some games with the possibility of 10,000 or greater with 7-1/8-0 teams.

Fixed that for ya. We are the "older" if the "brother" analogy has any relevance at all (typically the "little" or "big" sibling adjective refers to age)
