Seems a lot of people are predicting WMU to be a good team this year.

WMU was terrible last year but PJ Fleck's recruiting was not.

He brought some real talent to Kalamazoo.

@ Kent State: W (1-0) This time we win 28-6!
@ Kentucky:  L (1-1) A bad SEC team, but the Cats lose close.
@ Marshall: W (2-1) Cats keep Cato from touching the bell again.
Idaho: W (3-1) Cats destroy Vandals, similar to the 2012 opener.
Eastern Illinois: W (4-1) This will be a much closer game than many expect, but we will pull it out.
@ Central Michigan: L (4-2) There is something about playing at CMU that never feels right.
Bowling Green: L (4-3) They aren't favorites for nothing. This will be a BAD game for Ohio.

Akron: W (5-3) Key turnovers will help the Cats.
@ Western Michigan: W (6-3) WMU has great recruits, but that doesn't mean they'll play together.
Buffalo: W (7-3) Payback from last year.
Northern Illinois: W (8-3) Who attended the game in '09? I feel a repeat.
@ Miami: W (9-3) Because ya know... Miami sucks!

Regular Season Record: 9 wins 3 losses

MAC Championship (if applicable): W Ohio will get back, BG will slip up somewhere. We beat Toledo.
Bowl (if applicable): L I think we will play a Big Ten team, maybe Iowa.

Final Record: 10 wins 4 losses

Overall, I
think Ohio is going to have a very nice year. The defense will be what helps us win, but I also believe the offense will turn it on by the time we get to the first home game. I could see them winning against CMU and having 10 wins. However, there are several games I can see them losing as well, including Marshall, UB, and NIU. I could see them finishing anywhere from 6-6 to 9-3 this season. Here is to hoping! GO 'CATS!

kents--We win.  I'll bet the first 10 of you $50 on this in the Bobcat Challenge.  If we lose, I pledge $500.  If I win, you each pledge $50 plus the number of points we score.  (So, if we win 31-6, then you're pledging $81.)

Anyone...especially those who predict we lose this one?!

I'm thinking a 7-5 to 9-3 season. Defense looks good and I heard that Vick has been killing it the last couple days.

This is an extremely hard to predict season.  Hard to say how good this team is, and we will have several games with lines under 7 and the winner up for grabs.  Makes this contest all the more fun.  I'm going with rough start and strong finish.

Why would the majority want to bet you when they also think OHIO will beat Kent? When you posted this the count was  17 win 4 lose.

The final count was 17 win -5 lose

Very simply because my proposition is that win or lose there will be contributions to the Bobcat Club.

I hope people to contribute to academics, campus life, etc.  But our contribs to Athletics are unimpressive to me given our success (hoops, football, volleyball, wrestling, etc) and the great fondness of alumni.

@ Kent State: W
@ Kan'tucky: W (OCF watches in person for the third time that Ohio beats the Wildcats)
@ Marshall:W

Idaho: W
Eastern Illinois: L (Takes EIU too lightly and stubs their toes)
@ Central Michigan: W
Bowling Green: W (Homecoming crowd loves it, and goes away pumped!)
Akron: L (Coming off the high of the BG win, they lose their focus)
@ Western Michigan: W
Buffalo: W
Northern Illinois: L  (home crowd goes away angry at this one)
@ Miami: W (another round of "Miami sucks")

Regular Season Record: 9-3

MAC Championship (if applicable): N/A
Bowl (if applicable): W

Final Record: 10-3

Note: All three losses are at home, as this squad turns out to be better on the road then in the friendly confines of Peden Stadium.

Second Note: After the EIU loss there are calls on this board for Frank's firing and some call it the worst Ohio loss since the Northeastern game.  Some even say we've been knorred.

Afer seeing CMU and BGSU this year I like out chances against them better. Gonna have to defend the run against WMU.

No sniping at the picks, Monroe, unless you make some yourself.

But yes, two pick so far have Ohio in the MACC, those being SJackson and Bert Presley. Both have Ohio winning.

It's too late for me to do a game-by-game prediction as the season's about to start, but I think Ohio finishes 6-6.  I think Ohio losses the first three games (all narrowly) but then regroups after that, going 6-3 to finish out at .500.

Six wrong-thinking individuals picked the 'Cats to lose to kents.

Looking back, I am amazed at how many of you predicted a mediocre season, yet predicted a win a CMU at the same time. Central has had our number, and has dominated OHIO in Mt. Pleasant.

It is still early but we have 3 wins against inferior opponents. CMU game was frustrating because we have no offense until some injured players return.

My 9-3 is still reachable! Granted, predicting was mostly for fun and to garner some optimism but this season has gone much more poorly than I would have imagined.

RESULTS (out of 24):

@ Kent State: 19 correct on W
@ Kentucky: 16 correct on L
@ Marshall: 18 correct on L
Idaho: 24 correct on W
Eastern Illinois: 22 correct on W
@ Central Michigan: 12 correct on L
Bowling Green: 21 correct on L
Akron: 19 correct on W
@ Western Michigan: 5 correct on L
Buffalo: 20 correct on W
Northern Illinois: 18 correct on L
@ Miami: 23 correct on W

Interestingly, by this measure we were only surprised by the WMU loss (and to a lesser extent CMU), which is not surprising given how much better WMU was than anticipated. All in all, it was not a very surprising season.

STANDINGS:

1st - C Money 11-1 (only miss NIU)
1st - Chris_PHS89 11-1 (only miss WMU)
1st - El Gato Roberto 11-1 (only miss CMU)
4th - OUs LONG Driver 10-2 (correctly picked 6-6 record)
4th - ohio9704 10-2 (correctly picked 6-6 record)
6th - Ohio69 10-2
6th - GoCats105 10-2
6th - Ryan Carey 10-2
6th - L.C. 10-2
10th - Tyler 9-3 (just 1 off the 6-6 record)
10th - GoCatsGo 9-3 (just 1 off the 6-6 record)
10th - ou1982 9-3 (just 1 off the 6-6 record)
10th - Andrew Ruck 9-3 (just 1 off the 6-6 record)
10th - colobobcat66 9-3 (just 1 off the 6-6 record)
15th - Kinggeorge4 9-3
15th - The Optimist 9-3
15th - DelBobcat 9-3
15th - Sjackson 9-3
15th - LuckySparrow 9-3
20th - shabamon 8-4 (correctly picked 6-6 record)
20th - Zaleski 8-4 (correctly picked 6-6 record)
22nd - Afos 7-5
23rd - Bert Presley 6-6 (but wondering if he was even serious about 12-0 prediction?)
24th - OhioCatFan 5-7
25th - Monroe Slavin - Criticism and analysis of other people's picks, but no picks of his own
25th - BillyTheCat - Criticism and analysis of other people's picks, but no picks of his own

Perhaps we will need to update for bowl game extra credit, but there they are for the regular season.

The averages were 7.54 wins and 4.46 losses for the 24 folks who ventured a guess.

Sounds about right. Fans of a team usually predict an extra win or two.

I am glad Andrew didn't put me down there with Monroe, et al at #25 since I didn't give anything "official". I really did think anything better than 4-8 would be a good year. But, as I saw all the crappy teams we were playing, I must admit, I thought we could get to 7-5 easy...we win that NIU game and we are all happy and going BOWLing. As it is now, looks like that loss means we stay at home!
