. . . .Many posters think the former AD was the best thing since sliced bread. Some posters on this message board have NO clue how the former AD treated employees.
I now have a second very reliable source who confirms what the first source told me that Cromer created a very hostile work environment. This second source also added that she was not a very efficient administrator. HOWEVER, that does not excuse your buddy Albin from his very rash decision to cut bait and run. Just a little more patience, like two weeks or so, and he could have gotten, per President Gonzalez, the same at Ohio as he was offered by UNCC. You seem unable to assign any blame for this fiasco to Tim. To me this was a cut off your nose to spite your face move.
OCF- you and others have no idea how Albin was treated by the former AD. You admit that Cromer created a hostile work environment, which I have told you multiple times before. She is the reason many male employees left Athens. You and others refused to listen to what I said several months ago. Would you remain in a job when you were mistreated? You are talking about an AD who secretly renewed the womens BB coach with a miserable record the last four years. You are talking about an AD who rewarded Ohio's mens hoops coach as the highest paid coach in the league for yearly 5th and 3rd seed performances. And as far as President Gonzalez, she dropped the ball also. Do you think Rod McDavis would have made that mistake? Do you think Prez Nellis would have made that mistake? We both know the answer to that question! Gonzalez was cozy with the former AD. Admit it, your buddy in Baton Rouge was biased against Albin and never wanted to hire him in the first place.
You lose all credibility with "Do you think Prez Nellis would have made that mistake?" You do realize he was removed by the BOT due to incompetence, right?
You recently divulged the root of your (and Albin's) anger about the AD: Albin's original contract. Yep, he was put on a VERY short leash...for multiple reasons. First, the AD and Frank had an agreement that he would give her at least a year's notice of his retirement. Instead, Frank and Timmy pulled a quick one - essentially 2 months' notice - to ensure she had no choice but to elevate Albin to the position.
I got to know Julie a bit simply by speaking with her at events, and found that if I asked a politically delicate question she would provide a frank answer. She explained that after Solich pulled his trick, she spoke to 3-4 well regarded ADs at large universities. Her approach to the first Albin contract was based entirely on their recommendations.
It's no secret that she and other members of the department - not to mention the folks in Cutler Hall - were unimpressed with Albin. He is not articulate, particularly thoughtful, and apparently acted as though the job should be given to him without any vetting. And so he and his agent were unhappy with the first contract and also unhappy that she forced him to work with a public speaking consultant. Timmy was even more unhappy when she dictated staffing changes following the disastrous first year. She was in charge of a valuable asset and was not going to squander it. Turns out her approach worked.
And, for the last time, I will explain her renewal of Bob Boldon. In reviewing the condition of the women's program, she and other staffers interviewed multiple former players, dating all the way back to the 1990s. These individuals, with few exceptions, told horror stories about their experiences in Athens. They hated their coaches. They remained angry about the lack of support provided by the department. The ONLY positive feedback came from those who played for Bob Boldon. They said he cared about them, valued their skills and wanted them to have positive experiences both on and off the court. Given this, and coupled with the fact that his worst W-L records can be attributed to a freakish string of injuries, she decided he deserved a renewal. There was no big raise, nor was there anything secret about it. IMO, it was absolutely the right decision.
As for all the men whom you claim were treated poorly by her, Julie's long-term strategy was to outsource ticket sales/management. Therefore, why would she up the salary of the ticket manager? As for Russ Eisenstein, it's pretty well established that he was not exactly a team player within the department. Perhaps some of his attitude was due to his inability to rise to a higher-profile gig. Whatever the reason, for the good of the department and to continue to develop young talent, it was time for Russ to go. She didn't fire him; he made the decision based on dollars and cents.
