limited scamming. Penn state is not going to pay him remotely that much. as is normal any compensation due is offset by earnings from a new job. so for example if he is due $12 a year and gets a coaching position paying $8 million they only owe $4 million that year. additionally he has a clause that requires him to vigorously pursue employment and to prove that he is doing so. he has already stated he wants to coach and is rumored a candidate for multiple jobs. l
Yes, that's exaclty what happened to Frank his first few years at OHIO. Nebraska was on the hook for the difference between what we were paying him and his salary there. In Franklin's case, his new job (rumored Virginia Tech) will not pay him close to what he was getting at PSU, so they'll still be paying him heaps of money.

Franklin was making $11 million a year - that is the number involved.

Pry was making $5 mil at Va Tech - the next coach will make significantly more. Shane Beamer (one of the betting favorites to come home and take the job) is making $8 million at South Carolina (another job attached to Franklin if it opens). Napier is making $7.5 at Florida. That is the company Franklin is keeping. So he is looking at the $8 - $9 million slot. I think PSU can go through the heaps of money that have and find $3 million a year to make up the difference - by the time they finish lunch with a single donor.

The craziest thing is they fired Hill in the middle of Homecoming week when he had a bunch of time scheduled with donors. Then they get absolutely killed by Temple. It is a full on disaster. I started off poking fun at all of this because I deep down figured Albin would turn it around, but now I have no idea. They are paying two former coaches, a former AD, and Albin’s buyout. How do they even get out of this?
Drop football and try again in a few years like UAB?
Lowkey this had me chuckling

Albin has them rolling against North Texas tonight. Interesting.

Well that didn’t take long, but hey they’ve scored 17 points already so that’s good for them.

I was out to dinner and looked at my phone and saw that the score was 17-7 in UNCC's favor. Thought that maybe Tim had 'em rolling this week. By the time I got home it was halftime and tied. Now, the 49ers are behind 34-20. The last UNT score was the result, primarily, of a very un-Tim like thing. They were 4th and long deep in their own territory and ran a fake punt. Didn't make it, and UNT had a short field and scored with a TD in a few plays. I'll admit that the fake punt would have worked save for one missed block, but still, I don't remember Tim as being that much of gambler in situations like that.

Charlotte gave up 600 yards passing. 3rd all time in FBS history. Almost 800 yards of total offense. Ouch.

Yep. Trailing only 27-20, his fake punt blunder on 4th and long deep in his own territory gained nothing and North Texas who had been sleep walking through the game, then scored 27 straight points in the last quarter.

The call reeked of desperation.

Some on the UNCC board had another name for it.

And, speaking of the Charlotte board, I found this comment interesting:

Biff isn’t as good as a coach as Albin but I think biff is better in this new landscape of college football. Biff also has money and Albin doesn’t. Biff brought in athletes and former studs in HS…Albin brought in skinny JUCO players who are in over their head.

Albin should have stayed at Ohio with Navarro!

Remaining schedule:

-- East Carolina
-- UTSA
-- Georgia
-- Tulane

ECU is pretty good. Played Tulane tough, beat Army as badly as Army beat Charlotte. Tulane is the best team in the conference. Georgia is Georgia. UTSA is the only real shot at beating an FBS team.

Since Charlotte is not paying Albin a lot he would be cheap to replace.

Anyone else really bothered by the title of this thread (focusing on a single mid-game score propelling a season long discussion) or is it just me and my overly tidy administrative brain that wishes we could go back in time and call it "Albin at Charlotte"

Albin still has a game left at #5 Georgia's non-sick Bulldogs.

Hope Georgia can give Charlotte a game.

Albin's team with TWO rushing yards at the end of the 3rd quarter today.

UNCC has given up 46 points per game in the last 5 games.

They have the 2nd-worst defense in FBS. Giving up a whopping 470 yards per game.

Offense isn't much better, but they play another bottom-25 offense next week in UTEP so that might help some things.

Nah, they play UTSA, which is scoring at the same clip as Alabama.

How could I get my UTXX teams mixed up?! Which one does Malachi Nelson play for? The bad one right?

I's not emotionally attached to this either way but I think I'd rather see him succeed that fail. 1-11 looks likely which will put him in a situation where he doesn't have much time to turn things around. A 2-6 start next year probably would already get him fired at that point.

I kind of feel for Hauser.

But it was his choice to go.

He'll be lucky to see next season.

They get a break from the conference schedule next week with a game at...Georgia.

Seriously, who thought this was a good idea?
