Ben Johnson and Bryce Kitrell enter the portal. No surprises there.

We're up to 16 bobcats in the portal now with only 4 that have found a new home.
So question is, only 4 have found a home. Is that a result of unreal expectations on their part? Looking for a way to quit without quitting? Just doing the cool thing? Or something else?

I saw Penny Boone entered portal. Losing a MAC Offensive POTY sucks for anyone in our conference.

BTC is spot on. Unreal expectations for many unfortunately.

I don't know if I agree. The portal entry window isn't even closed yet, and players can commit at any time. If this imitates MLB free agency in ant way, things move slowly until key players are signed. At that point, there is a scramble to sign the remaining players. Rourke would be an exception because there are relatively few starting QB opportunities out there--he needed to find one fast. I look at Keye Thompson being rumored going to Pitt. If he waits, could an SEC linebacker go down in a bowl game and he loses a chance to go to a higher-profile school with more money to throw at him?

I get what you are saying and it is early. Heck, we still have the Spring portal. However, the statistics and data on the portal show that a good portion enter the portal and are never heard from again, or move to a level where they are now paying for school.

I'll agree with you that in some cases unrealistic expectations play a factor.

However, let's look at Bryce Kitrell. I don't think he even had a scholarship. He was here 4 years and rarely saw the field. I assume he graduated. He very likely does not end up at another school. However, there is a remote chance that some D-II school will help pay for his MBA. If he doesn't get picked up, was it unrealistic expectations, or did he grab a free scratch-off lottery ticket that was sitting on the table?

This transfer portal window closes January 2. Getting pretty close to closing.

When your highlight film is solely from practice, that's usually not a great sign.

It looks like Tyler Foster, Kurt Danneker, Torrie Cox and Keye Thompson will likely end up at a P5/G5 school. Not so sure about the others.

Only FBS offer for him so far, so I'd say we're in the lead.

DII schools have 30 scholarships for 100+ players. There ain't much help for that advanced degree.

My prediction would be P5 for Foster, Danneker, and Thompson. Cox probably headed to another G5. Had a great 2022 with a drop-off in 2023 mixed with some killer personal fouls. Not exactly what a major is looking for in a cornerback. Lots of talent, though.

I checked out Kitrell on google and he’s apparently getting married soon or has already gotten married in Ashland Nebraska so it sounds like he’s moving on with his life. BTW, Rourke and Navarro were/are groomsmen.

I am happy for Will but this is a perfect example of tampering imo. He goes in the portal a day before Buckeyes bowl game, no way he visited/built a relationship with OSU coaches in the past 48 hours. Boom gone. Again happy for Will and his family but this one smells.

I'm not saying hes not talented... but a zero-star TE out of HS, zero-star in the portal, the 2nd string TE at OU with 243 yards and 2 TD suddenly ends up on one of the best teams in the country... with 6 TE's on the roster already, including their current back-up and the #3 recruit in the country... as their first commitment... two days after he entered the portal...

Even they need tackling dummies, but I would LOVE to have been a fly on that wall.
