Will Kaz to Ohio State
So "The" Ohio State University just gave our second-string tight end a scholarship? I like saying that. Maybe they were impressed by our bowl win.
I am happy for Will but this is a perfect example of tampering imo. He goes in the portal a day before Buckeyes bowl game, no way he visited/built a relationship with OSU coaches in the past 48 hours. Boom gone. Again happy for Will and his family but this one smells.
I'm not saying hes not talented... but a zero-star TE out of HS, zero-star in the portal, the 2nd string TE at OU with 243 yards and 2 TD suddenly ends up on one of the best teams in the country... with 6 TE's on the roster already, including their current back-up and the #3 recruit in the country... as their first commitment... two days after he entered the portal...

Even they need tackling dummies, but I would LOVE to have been a fly on that wall.

After scoring 3 points perhaps they are brining him at QB.

Rick Lillenthall played TE at OHIO his first couple of seasons and was switched to QB where he started during the 1975 season. The staff didn't think Andy Vetter was ready to take over and run the show.

I assumed after losing the bowl with their third-team QB, they looked to the Bobcats, who have won back-to-back bowl games with third-team QBs. I'm guessing that neither Navarro nor Harris would bite on any of their offers to be QB3 in Columbus.

I remember back in 2008 being assured by OSU fans that there was a zero percent chance that anyone suited up for the Bobcats could ever make the OSU team, much less see the field. I wonder if this transaction creates any cognitive dissonance for them? ;)

The comment section under the 11 warriors twitter is pretty funny.

I see from his Twitter that Ohio is the latest FBS offer for Purdue RB Dylan Downing. He began his college career at UNLV but left after his freshman year to be a preferred walk-on at Purdue. This was because he wanted to be close to his family in Indianapolis during COVID. Due to Jeff Brohm's complete inability to hit on any other of his scholarship running backs throughout his Purdue tenure, Downing worked his way on the field and on scholarship. Brohm is now gone and the replacement coach just brought a more athletic back, Reggie Love, over from Illinois. Downing's a bigger, straight-ahead, physical runner that lacks top end power but has competent receiving skills. He is a grad transfer but has two years of eligibility. Other FBS offers are UMass, UConn, and Akron.

I will take him coming in and pairing with Ricky Hunt. I by no means want our coaches taking touches away from Ricky to bring in this dude though. Just like I know people are excited about a transfer QB but I do like what Navarro did in the bowl and he deserves a chance. It will all come down to who blocks for these guys. Other than Danneker I haven't seen any linemen in the portal. Does that mean that Titsworth, Rhodes, Dennison, Atkinson and Amburgey are all back? That would be awesome.

Does seem like this offense is at its best when there is a good 1-2 (or maybe even 1-2-3) punch in the backfield. Also with the injuries that have been a factor on the running back position the past few years wouldn't mind some depth. Future looks bright though based on what was on display in Myrtle Beach.

If you get Navarro, there will be lots of complaining about how little we throw the ball.

I don't think we'll be throwing it 40x a game, but I expect we'll still be throwing it 25 or so. I think our running game will be that much more effective too. In comparison to last year, what might we be losing? Rourke simply wasn't on point with the deep ball the way he was in 2022. will we have more guys open because of the threat of Parker's legs? Possibly. I definitely don't expect a return to Kareem/Dontrell type offenses.

I don’t disagree with that, but it will resemble the day where folks complained about 3rd down options. Not me, I particularly like that style and scheme.

Definitely not back to the days where Ohio didn't have a legit D1 WR on the team. I do however find it most punishing when you have the kind of run game that routinely goes for 8-14 yards on the ground to wear out the defenses.

I see it a lot in the mid-level Big Ten vs. MAC games. MAC teams look fairly even against a Michigan State or Minnesota until they start imposing with the run game with a little better O line and a little faster RB. Enough differential to eventually salt the game away.

Leake is a Major League Baseball player and a tackling machine in football?

Sorry, my first thought was former Reds pitcher Mike Leake.

Two P5 transfers to MAC teams today.

Cal QB Ben Finley to Akron. Finley was at NC State for 3 years before transferring to Cal.

Purdue RB Dylan Downing to Miami(OH). This one stings a little since I know we offered him and chose FIAMI over the Bobcats.

Maybe he was the player to be named later in the Wigs transfer.

I guess if you want to win MAC championships, you'd go to Miami instead of OU. Could also be that he saw Ricky Hunt in our bowl game and realized that he would be #2 in our backfield.

McCormick will be better than a good RB2, he’ll be more of a RB1-B. He runs with power and can truck guys will good speed. He reminds me of AJ Ouellette.

Can’t find fault in any of their decisions. Each one of these schools improved by adding these guys. I heard it through the grapevine that a number of guys who entered the portal this year had considered to do it last year, but the decided to run it back one more year to try and win the MAC. It didn’t happen. But now these guys are all off to play at the highest level of FBS football. I can’t blame them one bit and many people would do the exact same thing if in their shoes. Good for them! I hope they all do well and I’ll be pulling for them.
