Nailed it, Paul. Except Ohio hasn't played CMU this year. Were you meaning Akron? WMU played CMU though.

Even Ian Wells said this is the toughest offense Ohio will have faced this year. This is no gimme.

Are you guys serious? You think our score against Marshall and Birdsong this season is somehow comparable to the 2014 Marshall/Cato team? I assure you if the 2015 Bobcats played Cato/Schuler they would score more than 10 points.

Last year matters, given that we haven't played anyone with a better offense than WMU. Lets also not forget that we haven't beaten a top tier MAC team since 2011 and the results of those games have mostly been quite ugly. WMU could very well be the second best team in the West...we'll need to play great to beat these guys.
Marshall may not be the same team but they seem to have had little fall off against everybody but us. And why does Cato being missing matter more than half our defense being missing when we played Western last year?

I'm not sure what you mean...I don't think we were missing very many folks on defense last year at WMU but I might be wrong. But looking at the participation report pretty much everybody was there (http://www.ohiobobcats.com/sports/m-footbl/stats/2014-201... ).

Yeah, I meant WMU there. I defer to Mr. Wells!!

Are you serious? You talk about how Marshall is a different team but don't acknowledge that both Ohio and WMU are also different teams.

Marshall is worse, but I'm not sure their offense still isn't better than WMU's offense is.

....

But that's all hype.
DEFENSE.
I assure you I am serious!

(1) Ohio is not radically different than last season in terms of personnel. Healthier? YES. A year bigger/stronger/faster? YES. More swagger? HELL YES. But other than Papi and Heitzman we are mostly the same team.

(2) Marshall is a radically different team that you could argue is in a rebuilding year (even if they refuse to admit it). They lost one of the most prolific QB's in college history and their star WR. Those guys were the heart and soul of that 2014 team.

(3) WMU returns most of their top offensive players from last season and has played a far tougher schedule than us. As far as I know, WMU is mostly the same team we played last year.

Bottom line: many of the same folks that were on the field last year in Kalamazoo will be on the field in Athens. I love our chances and I love our team...but I believe CMU is the toughest opponent we've seen thus far including Minny. Unlike Minny, they can throw the ball and put points on the board fast. We'll have to play great to beat these guys, but I like our chances!
I don't think I'm too far out on a slim limb when I say that a healthy Papi and Heitzman make this season's Ohio offense appreciably more potent. I might edge farther out on the limb and say that this year's version of Patterson is quite different from last year's.

While that's true, it's also true that this year's version of the OL blocking for him is much better than last year's.

This is a very talented WMU team and the Cats will beg tested big time. I have watched them play three times they are among the MAC's elite. Time for Ohio to prove they are.

Man, if you look at the game notes from the game last year, we scored 1 TD after a 3 yard drive and 2 TDS in the forth quarter after the game was over. After opening with 2 drives without scoring, WMU scored on their next 3 drives, all over 75 yards. Enough said.

You aren't going to win many games where you give up 530 yards. Add to that a pick-six thrown by Vick and two missed Ohio field goals, and it gets worse.

Last year doesn't matter at this point. It's now about this year, and I am sticking to my pick of an Ohio win, 35-21.

A year ago this game marked the end of Monroe's 2 year down period (Miami 2012 to WMU 2014), a period during which Ohio was 13-14. Since the WMU game, Ohio is 7-2, with the only losses coming to MAC Champion NIU by 7 points, and to Minnesota by 3. The WMU game a year ago also marks the last time Ohio gave up 30 points in a game. I'm looking for the Bobcats to win today, and to hold WMU under 30.

I'm so tired of Albin. WMU is suspect up front and he won't run the ball. Vick can't make any throws yet he continues to let him throw.

Offensive play calling beyond stupid in that first half. Nice job of giving up on the run. Unacceptable with the talent at tail back that we have. Vick was terrible in that first half. reckless with ball. He could have had a couple picks. The terrible offense put the defense in a bad spot. Bobcats have yet to make adjustments at halftime most games this year.

#1. lucky to be down 7 at half. Lord knows we don't often execute in the two-min offense, but I think this was born more out of necessity.

#2. missed opps... Cope's drop, and the ungodly predictable playcalling on teh 4th down play. we don't have AJ in the game all day, then we obviously bring him in.

#3. before AJUTM on 4th and short, we ran once between the tackles with Daz. we never ONCE tried to test the weakest part of their D until it was too late and too obvious.

#4. Slants... had a couple great ones early, but kept doing it when WMU knew it was coming.

#5. When are we going to have a MAC title caliber offense? One that executes at will against good teams?

#6. If the color man calls us Ohio U one more time, I'm going to climb the Peden tower and murder him where he sits.

Temporary insanity or justifiable homicide? either defense is legit and gets me off with time served. Then I sue the Koch brothers, who sponsor these telecasts, for punitive damages resulting from the charges and their damage to my reputation.

At this point, it's obvious that our record is inflated by our awful awful schedule.

Coaches have been outcoached in every third quarter this season. Once again Ohio with another bad third quarter. We have done nothing on offense this year in the second half of games.

Jeez, why do we have so much trouble with WMU every time we play them?

Our D has been pretty good this year, yet they are running circles around us.

Most pathetic showing at home since BG a few years back. Coaches have a lot of explaining to do, they didn't prepare this team at all.
