...There's also a thread on the Bronco message board about defensive injuries.

http://csnbbs.com/thread-752508.html

That thread mentions:
Spillane (starting MLB) - didn't play much in the second half
Braster (2d string LDE) - hurt, looked bad, ankle taped and limping after game
Tranquil (2d string FS) - tore ACL
Beavers (starting LT) - was injured against CMU
Kristoff (starting LG) - was out against CMU

Going into the CMU game they had these injuries:
Corey Davis (starting WR/X) - ??, but played, had 6 catches for 45 yards
Jarvion Franklin (starting RB) - ankle, played, had 22 carries for 127 yards
DePalma (not on the current depth chart
Kristoff (starting LG)
Braster (2d string LDE)

All told, it doesn't sound bad. It sounds like mostly the usual dings that happen by the middle of the season, about the same as Ohio

Given that the injuries are similar, but sides have some ding here and there, but nothing unusual, I don't think they will be a factor in the game. I think Ohio is still getting better, and still hungry, and they are going to protect their home turf. They HAVE to win every game at home, and they need to win at least 1 game on the road.

I'm going to call this one Ohio 35, WMU 21.

Giving up about 460 yards per game. I saw their game against CMU and their run defense was porous.
Pass rush was not a threat and gave CMU lots of time to throw.

Remember they played MSU and tOSU.
tOSU & MSU haven't proven to be that tough (yet) this year... Hard telling if they will be.

I sure wish Toledo/BG had tOSU on the schedule as well as WMU/NIU this season. Might have handed them a loss or two.

If we have 4/5 great RBs like some think we do, we should do well in MAC play. I hope PJ Fleck isn't feeling 'elite' come Saturday at 4pm.

This game will be either the biggest or second biggest game of the year. With the student Blackout that is featured along with Chick-Fil-A I expect a huge student turnout.

we've already had the 4th and 5th largest crowds in Peden this year, you think a noon game against a school with few traveling fans will top Marshall and Homecoming v Fiami? That's awfully optimistic.

How many band members are expected. Miami had what 500 fans?

Maybe 50 Fiami fans including parents. Completely non-existent, not even the knucklehead that wears the old school helmet was there.

Miami has fans?

In other news, Arkley reports that Vick is moving much better and near 100%, and that we may see Moore and Wood both back Saturday. Also, Sprague is starting some limited practice. On the negative side, Connor Brown is out (sick), Heitzman is questionable, and Brunis could be done for awhile.

They brought 35 to 50 fans in the visitor section. Before the game I checked out the university ticket site and their allotment was completely unsold. A few Miami students showed up in the stands with Ohio friends and family.

Sprague taking reps is very good news. My fear was Vick's health would decline before Sprague showed recovery. With limited reps this week I'd think he would dress for Buffalo and Bowling Green is not until November 4th.

Sorry, but the highlight video shows a bunch of people in red in the visitors area. OSU fans?

Usually he weighs things like returning starts across the OL, coaching, turnovers and I think he has inside info about injuries. And then, he might have just called coach Solich for his prediction.

I took this to be a rhetorical question, since Steele has more data than anyone else around, and has been pretty good at turning it to forecasts. That doesn't mean he's right, but I hope he is.

I hope Steele's right too. That just seems like a very large margin considering Ohio's playing a team that thumped them by 21 points last year. What the hey, I'm drinking the green Koolaid-GO BOBCATS!!

Last year was in Kalamazoo. They scored 21 points in the 2nd quarter and that was the difference in the game. The Bobcat defense is on another level from last season so its easy to think it won't give up 21 in the second quarter this season.

Why does it matter when they scored twice as many points as we did? I was at that game, and Western kicked the crap out of our defense. We had no answer for their passing attack, and they went up big in the first half and cruised through the second half without needing to pass much more.

We also gave up 44 points to Marshall last year but only allowed 10 this year. Marshall is averaging 36 points a game not including our game. The point is this isn't last year's defense. We are averaging almost 10 points fewer allowed per game. I'm not saying that I expect our defense to shut down the Broncos but I would expect us to put up a significantly better showing.

Why does last year matter at all? Marshall kicked the crap out of us last year as well.

It seems pretty clear to me that we are improved from last year. Western? Ehhh... Maybe they will turn the corner and start playing like they did last year. That seems like a bigger question than our D right now though.

Are you guys serious? You think our score against Marshall and Birdsong this season is somehow comparable to the 2014 Marshall/Cato team? I assure you if the 2015 Bobcats played Cato/Schuler they would score more than 10 points.

Last year matters, given that we haven't played anyone with a better offense than WMU. Lets also not forget that we haven't beaten a top tier MAC team since 2011 and the results of those games have mostly been quite ugly. WMU could very well be the second best team in the West...we'll need to play great to beat these guys.

Are you serious? You talk about how Marshall is a different team but don't acknowledge that both Ohio and WMU are also different teams.

Marshall is worse, but I'm not sure their offense still isn't better than WMU's offense is.

....

But that's all hype.

I assure you I am serious!

(1) Ohio is not radically different than last season in terms of personnel. Healthier? YES. A year bigger/stronger/faster? YES. More swagger? HELL YES. But other than Papi and Heitzman we are mostly the same team.

(2) Marshall is a radically different team that you could argue is in a rebuilding year (even if they refuse to admit it). They lost one of the most prolific QB's in college history and their star WR. Those guys were the heart and soul of that 2014 team.

(3) WMU returns most of their top offensive players from last season and has played a far tougher schedule than us. As far as I know, WMU is mostly the same team we played last year.

Bottom line: many of the same folks that were on the field last year in Kalamazoo will be on the field in Athens. I love our chances and I love our team...but I believe CMU is the toughest opponent we've seen thus far including Minny. Unlike Minny, they can throw the ball and put points on the board fast. We'll have to play great to beat these guys, but I like our chances!
