I certainly hope someone asks about the dog's health during tomorrow's presser.

Amen!! Some things are bigger than football. I’m close to my dog (he’s like my child) and if I hadn’t seen my child & my child needed me to pick them up from the hospital, nothing would stop me. Also, maybe his wife needed support during that time. From what I read on Facebook the dog was in the intensive care unit.

Pretty pathetic that he couldn't let his players, who loved him so much, enjoy this moment for even a couple hours. Biggest moment the fans have ever had and they don't even get to enjoy it. It's truly sad. Could he not have waited even one day?!

Disappointed that he left Athens for an historically worse program. Evidently they're willing to pay a lot to him that they weren't paying their previous coaches, and that OU isn't paying now. I don't fault him for that. But it would have been a lot easier seeing him leave for a step up. This is a lateral move and that's if I'm being generous.

I would put money on this being a family member/close friend of Albin or one of the staff members following him to Charlotte.

Again, this might be a good excuse if he hadn’t take the time to speak with Charlotte reporters and travel there for a presser tomorrow morning and it wasn’t 24+ hours later. He hasn’t even bothered to have ChatGPT spit out a generic thank you message like every kid hitting the portal does. Even worse, no evidence or word that he has addressed the players.

I’m going to stop letting this get to me and ruining enjoying the players and the title, but I haven’t seen a single one of the captains post a photo with Albin since yesterday outside of the entire team photo. They deserved better, as did the fans Albin continuously called the best in the MAC.

Yep, I’ve put dogs and cats down and is very difficult. I don’t think this pet died and I’m not sure what the status was but I agree those who say he got bad advice or he used bad judgment in the way he ended it. Good luck to him in the future though.

I'm not sure anyone is suggesting he shouldn't be able to tend to a family emergency. Even if it is true...you have to admit having a legitimate dog emergency minutes before the news broke of his departure is about as far fetched as it gets. That would be one WILD coincidence. He must be doing better given he is already down in Charlotte away from home.

I think he bet against himself. He secured the position before the MACC for fear it could negatively affect his job prospects. And it cost him. After that performance he would've absolutely had more options and more $$$.

Here is component # 481 of college football where it would be nice to have some structure and guardrails from the NCAA. Why not have a rule forbidding contact with other programs about other opportunities until a specific time. Make it the same as the portal opening date. It would be a nice rule for athletes they are supposed to represent.

The reason this all seems hurtful and misleading is due to the lack of transparency. I suspect some displeasure with Ohios offer to extend and increase the financial package amount.
This may of caused the clunky and somewhat “I’ll show you” response. Very disappointing for sure .
My guess is this impressive win to coach better / prestigious programs were about to show up.

From what I heard from good sources and read on here, the AD did not treat him well but also strung him along and he had to keep waiting for his contract. With what he has done for this program, he should not have to wait and should have been treated better by her. Also heard his contract was still making him one of the lower paid head coaches in the MAC. So not only was he going to be under paid but also was not treated the way he should have been by the AD.

I am sure he couldn’t control when the news would be leaked. Also see my post above. He was not being treated the way he should have been and I am one of the mad fans. We need to be pointing our fingers else where. He did so much for our program in the 20 years he was here.

And to think college coaches have the nerve to complain about the portal & NIL when they pull up stakes and jump to the next job.

This makes sense. The tough industry of football has its “sensitive areas” that seem to show up.

I can’t stress this enough. I don’t blame anyone leaving for more money. If I were Albin, I would’ve done the same thing. It’s about how you leave. Eric Decker from the Messenger has done a pretty good job documenting it all on his X Twitter account.

https://x.com/edecker17/status/1865887392218923108?s=42

As I said in a previous post, Albin’s inner circle did a terrible job instructing him how to handle this and having a getaway car in Detroit.

No matter how you slice it, the way Albin bolted out of Athens will forever be part of his Ohio legacy. Do hope the pup is ok.

This is very plausible. In fact, it seems quite possible to me that he had not yet accepted the offer from Charlotte, and that while on the bus, some precipitating event happened, so he got off the bus and accepted the job.

When did he actually interview with Charlotte? I wonder if the administration knew he was on their radar prior to the MACC.
If the deal was in place shortly after the game ended… I doubt he interviewed at half-time. Sounds to me like he didnt think OU would win, no better offers would come and accepted the job earlier in the week.

I don’t want to get conspiratorial around here, but his daughter was posting from a suite at the game. I sincerely doubt his dog was in such bad shape that everyone went to Detroit and was drinking and celebrating.

He left. And not in a stand-up way. Wasnt with the team. Didn't - and still hasn’t - addressed it. No way to spin it. He has however spoken with Charlotte beat writers.

I’d rather just move on.

Onward and upward.
I’m with ya. Biggest Ohio football moment in 50+ years and then boom….gone. Not even mad at him for taking the Charlotte job. I will never begrudge anyone for improving their net worth. It just leaves a sour taste in everyone’s mouth that he wasn’t there with the team at 10 PM Eastern Saturday night to celebrate for just a little bit in Athens. And yes…. I have no doubt this deal was probably in place at least 7-10 days before the MAC Championship game. No way it was just finalized the day before the game. And to now go 24 hours without acknowledging anything on social media to Ohio and its fans is inexcusable..Tim got some very poor advice from his inner circle on how to handle this after the game.
The fact that some of you believe the dog story is pretty much the litmus test....

I saw him at Arby's in Upper Sandusky, laughing with Mike Hill over a Beef and Cheddar when he got off the bus.

This is nonsense.

They quite literally renegotiated his contract in 2023. Making him the 3rd highest paid coach in the conference, behind Candle's $1.1M and McElwain's $1M.

They added automatic extension every time he wins 8 games. And a large swath of folks were upset about having such a low bar for an extension. They added numerous bonuses as well.

I can't even imagine the rage if they bumped him to $1M before this season.

Regardless, were they supposed to renegotiate a new deal a few months after renegotiating a new deal just because Lance Taylor was a beneficiary of WMU's big football gift and he got $850K? Chuck Martin renegotiated for a big jump at the beginning of 2024 and he's been there for a decade. I agree, he was due for a new contract - which they would likely be working on now, but to act like they were not willing to negotiate, despite negotiating a few months prior, and should get him a new contract every few months, every time someone new his hired is just silly.

A huge thank you to Tim Albin for coaching us to our first MACC in 56 years. Congratulations on scoring the new gig. He built up enough good will from the fan base that we should not begrudge the man a chance to add to his bank account. Tacky and crappy way to end it, but, it is what it is. Time to move on. We have a Bowl Game in less than 2 weeks.

This is a great post.

You woulda thought rich-ass UNCC coulda splurged for the nearby Bob Evans, but I guess they’re low on cash since they’re basically paying three coaches now: Poggi, Albin and our next coach.

If he was treated so badly why did he constantly thank Cromer and Gonsalez (and Amy Dean)??

It was painful watching him try to speak at the Charlotte presser. Toastmasters would help him a lot.
