IMO, the execution of plays and the personnel are the culprit?. Is that the head Coach or the OC or both? Nothing seems to come easy for this Offense. No back has the ability to change field position or score on a single play ( except Irons). AJ is dependable, Daz and Pappi are fast, but so is every defence at the Div 1 Level. At some point an RB needs to have yards after contact and needs to find a hole where one doesn't exist. And I'm not referring to 5 yards and a cloud of dust as we already have that. I want to see RB's run through contact at full speed and break off big runs, 20 plus yards. I haven't seen that from this Offense all year (Except during the Irons 44 yard TD). Plays like that change games dramatically.

Well, White had that one for 58, Brown one for 43, Vick for 37, Hardy for 37, Ouellette for 34 and Patterson for 33. Should be even more of that next season.

Allen--This is confusing to me.

I know that Irons scored on about a 23 yard run late to the left in one of the early games this year.

So, you're saying that these long td jaunts can be diminished because they're against 2nd and 3rd string defenses? But don't these long runs make you want to try Irons against the 1's? Does dismissing ability to perform against 1's because one is ripping perhaps lesser competition make sense? How can you prove up against the 1's, after proving up vs the competition you are allowed to face, if you don't face them?

It's not a perfect metric but one guy scores 4 td's on 33 (12%) carries where as other guys score 0 on 40 (0%) carries or 9 on 106 (8.5%) or 6 on 151 (4%)--who do you want to see more of?

If the metics and opticals keep showing a guy as worthy, why are we not playing him
I think it was Idaho

Wow, what a contrast in two plays.

BG looking confident and dynamic, running that middle screen type play to effect and with pizzazz.

Ohio with the same old, tired toss to the receiver on the wing, picked sixed.

The truth is the truth.

Is it sad that I really think that if Ohio had gotten Cardale Jones he would either just now starting to get pt or even yet coaches would have moved him to Def Line.

Wow, I kind of agree. Roger Lewis would also be sharing time.

I hope he stays, I really do. Ohio is the best place for him. The coaches need to get some courage and play the best players.
They play the best players and the ones who do what is asked both on and off the field.
Support your statement or be quiet.
Not sure if Irons played in the opener or served any suspension, but he probably started in a hole, depth chart-wise, due to his legal issue from early 2015.

He took a plea deal and got two counts of persistent disorderly conduct (down from possessing criminal tools and receiving stolen property). This is Athens Municipal Court Case No. 2015CRB00031.

Basically, a woman's ID went missing Uptown, she told her friends, one of 'em noticed that Irons was trying to sell her ID using some electronic medium. A sting (of a fake buy) was set up at Baker Center, and ... you heard how it worked out legally.

Steveland Hookfin was no saint, but he was a big runner like Irons. Not sure why I just thought of him. Probably that yards after contact thing.

He scored a touchdown in the opener. Poling was also arrested. If he did this then that is definitely stupid and immature, but we can't have a double standard for Poling.

Is it possible that there are some differences about the specifics or the seriousness of the two situations that you are not aware of?

I am just saying he was not suspended for the opener and Irons being benched for eight games is not because of this incident. In my opinion, he should have been suspended for the opener if he did that. There is a difference in severity, Billy the Cat control your emotions, you don't know anymore than anyone on this site, I don't care how many times you washed Frank Solich's car.

I didn't want to post what you did. Funny that many here seem to question Daz getting so much time on the field and Irons so little. Character plays a role in the overall maturity of a RB and as I privately pointed out to "Coach" Monroe quite a while ago that Irons had some growing up to do. Irons at times may be his own worst enemy. Hope he finds it within himself to mature as a person and player.

I remembered and thought of this response yesterday when the announcers related a conversation with the Clemson coach talking about the turn around and difference between a player last year and this year. "Simple, he grew up and is approaching the game with a much more mature attitude" was his answer.

Let's hope we can say the same for a few of your players next year.

For all of you Maleek Irons conspiracy theorists:

Christian McCaffrey

----------------

Freshman Season:

43 rushing attempts for 300 yards; 17 receptions for 251 yards.

----------------

Sophomore Season:

319 rushing attempts for 1847 yards; 41 receptions for 540 yards.

----------------

Questions for Maleek Irons conspiracy theorists:

1. Does David Shaw read Stanford's message board?

2. Is David Shaw racist?

3. Does David Shaw play favorites?

Nobody said Solich was racist, does he show favoritism to the previous starter, I would say yes. The coaches were about to move AJ to linebacker, that should tell you something. Play the best players and not the ones that the fans ask about. I am glad this kid got the bobcat award, so people can't keep saying that he is not focused or a team player. Ben Russell would be starting over Poling as well, race is not a factor. Daz got more carries than Irons and Brown and Brown and Irons are better. Daz was a great dedicated senior, so I understand that a little bit. Let this kid play if he is the best. Coach Shaw is not our coach and Solich does play favorites.

Beg to differ but IMO Poling plays over anyone on our roster the last 5 years or perhaps longer.

The temporary switch of A.J. was due to our 4 top linebackers being injured and we had
enough depth to cover running back.

Do you follow this team at all?

I do follow the team, that's how I came to my conclusion. We can get emotional or we can get real. I choose to get real. Russel did start over Poling, once he got injured Poling took over. One of the staff members referred to Maleek Irons as our Derrick Henry, very big fast and powerful. Look at the tapes. This kid can get 2k yards in the MAC if we feed him or we can say do you even follow this team.

Irons is coming a long. We all wanted to see more of him but he is maturing OFF and ON the field. It's a process and knowing what I now know Maleek had/has a lot of growing to do. With that said we should get to see him a lot more this year along with AJ and a few others.

This is the best news yet, and goes right along with his lifting award. I believe that Irons can be a star, and I think this year he is going to emerge and be a force.

I think this is what everyone needs to understand. Trust the coaches. If he deserves to play, he will play.

No doubt about it. There's such reverence for his talent and maturity and growth...that the article out of camp has him as not one of the first two backs, not one of the guys who'll be on the field in two back sets.

Prediction: After his eligibility is gone, this staff will consider giving him the ball.
