Another call? Yes, probably a pass. One with a run fake. Maybe a roll out. Maybe a two back set with Emmanuel (sp?). Maybe a run starting with qb under center. Maybe a receiver in motion and hit him with the snap for an end around.

BUT NOT PAPI UTM.

Did you all really like that play?

Great post. 1) San Diego 4th and 2 at about NIU's 4. Fake run, qb rolls out passes for td. 2) NIU 4th and 1 at about San Diego 40. Receiver in motion behind line gets almost fully across, reverses to run back across the field, gets the ball on a handoff as he crosses back--first down run.

It's good that you have answers when people ask...and a bit obvious that our coaching staff, full time pros, don't have better answers than Papi UTM. Interesting that the plays you suggest would shortly later actually turn up in a MAC game. Maybe you have some reasonable thoughts, ideas.

Get crazy at me: All I said is that we played about as well as we could, our qb is limited, and I don't think that Tennessee will be ranked by year's end.

That really so offensive or outside of the realm of reasonable discussion?

Monroe, fan wise, the players deserve so much better than you.

Stick it, pal. I'm entitled to root for my University to win a championship. My criticism rarely runs to the players. I don't blame guys for not being better than they are.

I do question the coaching strategy...because it's so often so questionable.

Where does being a fan mean that one must always, 100% of the time be a shill and refrain from analysis?

You'll have to excuse Monroe. Usually he spends at least 5 seconds putting his strawhorses together, Windham is limited? To be fair, after three games, I'm not sure we can say what Windham is or isn't. But he's shown arm strength, effective running, toiughness and good decision-making. With no running back behind me and facing Tennessee's pass rush, I might be unloading on the short options as well. And at least one of this misses was on Sebastian Smith.

HIs numbers are quite good. He's thrown one INT in 128 attempts with six TDs. Averaging 263 yards per game. He's Ohio's leading rusher with 222 yards on 33 attempts (6.7 YPC and 74 YPG). And he has not taken a sack this season! Although I'm not sure whether Windham is holding Albin back or vice versa. I get my strawhorses mixed up.

Monroe, my man. I was at the game. I did not have the best seats in the house, but I tried to watch Papi on many plays, even when he didn't have the ball. When he was on the outside, UT frequently was double teaming him. OHIO tried a number of times to break him free around end, but he never quite made it. Tennessee knew of his speed and it was obviously part of their game plan to not let him turn the corner. They knew that would be a sure six. He did have at least two nice outside runs of about 8 to 9 yards each. When they moved Papi inside, lining up in the backfield, he had several nice runs, but he was also stuffed a few times, probably due to failed blocks or bad reads or a great UT defense. I think to look at the play you have focused on in isolation is really unfair. Did you see our touchdown? Did you see the fake to the RB (which one was it?) and then the rifle shot into the end zone. Had everyone in the stadium faked out. That play occurred right in front of me, as I was in the endzone. Brilliant misdirection. Any credit there?

Fair enough, OCF. I hope that you enjoyed the game. As I said, generally I think we played about as well as we can. Was it hot in the stadium, any wind?

I missed a play or three, but I remember about no runs for much by Papi. Stats that I see on ESPN say that he had 8 carries for 21 yards so I don't think that he had too many good runs. (of course 8 net for 21 includes some runs for losses so could be some longer runs in there.)

He consistently did not run outside for much today or last week.

Here's the thing: That Papi UTM on third down with about 4:20 to go was a really big play. A key play. And we flunked it by calling a horribly conceived play.

Yes, the td off fake to the RB--very good. It included a fake. None such on the Papi UTM.

Side notes: Arkansas destroying TX State. I've seen a few minutes of it and I think Arkansas is much better than Tennessee (though Tenn had 3 guys out entering today and last 3 guys in the game so it's somewhat difficult to compare).

To the question as to whether I've played or coached football (by CABobcat?): You are better than that. That query doesn't speak to the validity of my thoughts. You've never been or run for POTUS...does that make your thoughts on politics totally wrong or mean you can't vote?

Yes, it was very hot in the stadium. If it was not for TV, this game would have probably been a night game, which would have been much better from a fan standpoint. Not much wind. Late in the game there was a little wind at our backs (the fans in our endzone) and that cooled things off just a bit. But, overall it was miserably hot.

This is a team that I think is improving from week to week. I think we'll be playing our best football come November. I expect to be in Detroit for the MACC, and see OHIO win. Go Bobcats!

What's your point? Why so angry? I point out more facts and specific analysis than any other (no 'we're on the verge of great years' stuff)--what about that angers you?

Does it really make sense to you that my points can't make sense if I haven't played or coached...but can if I have?

I don't fathom why anger at my points makes them wrong?

That can't be farther from the truth. You throw out less facts and analysis than anyone on here. You set up strawhorses and call them facts. But that doesn't make it so. Greg Windham is limited is a "fact"?

You're a five-year-old. You don't know what it is that is being done wrong or how it needs to be changed. You just want it "done right".

Eh, I have no problem criticizing playcalling and personnel packages when warranted, but I don't think this is one of those times. At that point, we had only two healthy RBs, and Emmanuel had done not a lot all day. Papi has at least that quick burst of speed that you think maybe he can slip threw the hole and pick up just one yard.

I get that, in hindsight, maybe a little rollout run/pass option with a play action fake would have been a different wrinkle that maybe catches Tennessee off guard. But the edge of Tennessee's D line was also eating our lunch at that point in the game, and we just needed one yard.

So I don't hate the call. Would have been nice to have any of AJ, Brown, or Irons for the carry, but we didn't have them.

Good point about Tenn controlling our efforts to get outside. They did a great job of forcing us to go inside by dominating the corners over and over. The Bobcats were not playing with enough bullets in the gun due to our RB situation. Our coaches and players deserve credit for a great effort in a big time setting regardless of the final score!

Monroe just can't do that. He is incapable of seeing anything good about the team or its coaches.

True, except I basically..Can you read at all...said that we played as well as we could...with my only quibble being that really uninspired call on what was about the most important play of the game for us.

We have a reading disability here? You're seeing a whole team of psychologists, aren't you?

I don't hate you, I feel sorry for you. I've seen what you've posted 5000-6000 times and it's the same thing.

Unfortunately, when you say " the team played as well as it could", based on all your other thousands of posts that we don't have the players or coaches to do any better. I'm betting that the team knows that they can play "better" than they did.

There's no specifics there. What formations are Ohio in? How many times? When successful, what happened? When unsuccessful, what happened? What was the opponent doing?

Instead, you resort to generalisms. We should "try something else". We need "inspired playcalling". Basically, you want Ohio to stop doing what doesn't work and start doing what does work. Great, thanks.

In the past he has stated that, in his opinion, good play calling is unrelated to factors such as the defense the other team is in, and the only thing that really matters is surprise. Regardless of what the odds of success were for this or other options, this play was not a surprise.
