Before we kick off this year I said OU and Akron will battle it out. I still believe WMU will lose to Toledo for some odd reason. I just think Hunt and Swanson will give WMU fits. We will see. But I still think OU vs Tokedo in a rematch in Detroit. We have to take of business these next two weeks.
If by taking care of business you mean 1-1, that will happen.

Uh yeah, Akron has as much chance of beating Toledo as Ohio does, slim and none. See Akron's 41-0 debacle at home against WMU.

I've said all along, not sure why so many are dissing Akron.

I was not expecting Akron to be as good as they are because they rely so much on transfers that each year they lose most of their starters. It's tough to build a team that is consistently good that way. The guy at Idaho tried it, and it wasn't working very well for him. Bowden, by contrast, has made it work well, and I'll give him credit for that. I still think that when Bowden is done at Akron, the next guy will struggle because he'll come in and find nothing.

Yes, but I think people are operating under the assumption that we beat Buffalo, and lose to Toledo and CMU, which would give us 3 conference losses heading into the Kron game. Then assume Kron beats Buffalo and BUGS, and loses to Toledo. They have 2 conference losses heading into the game with us.

If we beat Kron, we have identical conference records, but we hold the head-to-head tie breaker and go to the MACCG over them.

You are right, though, that if Kron beats Toledo and we can't score an upset over one of the West teams, Nov. 22 won't matter.
[/QUOTE]A fair assumption. Winning at CMU could seal the deal for Ohio, though it's a tough ask for OUr team. At least we get that Akron matchup at home instead of up there.

Well, they have one small advantage: they get the Toledo game at home.

I wouldn't really call that a debacle. WMU is just that good.

So, you mean that WMU's apparently fine recruiting is paying off?

And if our recruiting is only so-so, then what can we expect?

Plus, I haven't seem WMU much--Is their brand of ball exciting and innovative?

Exciting and innovative can affect winning and fan enthusiasm level, no?

With the Akron loss. Basically we beat Akron we play in championship.

I'm finally on board with OhioBobcat; Ohio will win the MAC East. Heck, Akron might not even be in 2nd place when they play Ohio. Akron losing to a 1win (now 2 win) Buffalo team doesn't surprise me in the least.

I gotta believe Toledo comes out next week and thumps Kron. If we can hold serve vs. Buffalo and steal one in Mt. Pleasant, we will clinch the East before Nov. 22.

All that's needed is an Ohio win at home against Akron. Next week its Akron's turn to see what they can do against Toledo and Ohio's turn to see what they can do against Buffalo. Conventional wisdom going in tonight had an Ohio L and an Akron W. Ohio is on track now to open up a two game lead on Akron by next week.

If Toledo beats Akron, as I think they will, and Ohio beats Buffalo, all that will be needed will to win either of the last two games.

If we beat Buffalo at home next week and Akron loses to Toledo and BG....we will automatically be the East champion before we play Akron. That gives us an option to play our starters for one half or less and rest up for the MACC days later.

Is Akron doing what OU normally does this time of year with unexplained blowout losses? Ohio doesn't look that way pulling out the big MAC road win.

It's as simple as this. If the team that played as well as it did tonight can manage to not win the MACEast, then...well, I don't have to tell you....

I think our scenarios to clinch the East are:
1. Beat Akron, or
2. Beat Buffalo and CMU, with Akron losing to Toledo or BG, or
3. Beat Buffalo or CMU, with Akron losing to Toledo and BG

Monroe, you just do not get it. It is not "as simple as this" . Building a respected and winning program is not just about the MAC championship and I feel sorry for you that you are not able to grasp this fundamental of college athletics. The foundation of your "building" is on sand if you continue to measure success by only one of the program's goals. Good luck selling your doggy bags and leave the football coaching to our capable staff.

I impressed with the effort, and don't see a likelihood at this point that Detroit isn't in OUr Bobcats future. That said, last night proved that everything is unpredictable. The ticket could be pretty much punched by around 10pm on Thursday. Next week will be a fun one in Bobcat Land!

Whether we like or not Monroe's view has some merits, we have had a horrible record against winning MAC programs. Monroe you have to give Solich some credit this year. Our top 2 returning corners left befor the season started, we lost three during the year, all of our running backs have been injured and we lost our two top returning QB's and we are number 1 in the MAC East. We still have to improve on our penalties, or passing game and our coverage. The coaches have managed to right the ship. It is no way we are supposed to to lose to Texas State, but that has happened and now it is time to focus on improving every week and winning football games. We all have to be real. Go Cats

Really need that meme of Fry from Futurama for this.

"Can't tell if BTC is being sarcastic or if this is really his favorite win."
