FootballScoop says CMU is interested in UConn's Jim Mora, Jr.(UConn has funding, resources and NIL money problems) and has drawn interest from Stony Brook HC Billy Cash and Pitt asst Cory Sanders, both of whom have strong ties to the state.
They were paying McElwain over a million so it's not that big of a leap.

Texas Tech just fired DC Tim DeRuyter an old Ohio defensive coach. They gave up 414 points this year.

A host of changes came down over the weekend.

UCF's Gus Malzahn is resigning and taking the offensive coordinator position at Florida State.

Purdue has fired Ryan Walters. This will be their second coaching search in 3 years.

West Virginia is firing Neal Brown after 6 seasons.

Florida International has fired Mike MacIntyre. The Panthers haven't had a winning season since 2018.

Small mention of Albin on Split Zone Duo's podcast by Steven Godfrey when talking about the open Charlotte job. Said that it doesn't make sense for him to go there unless he used it as a leverage type situation for more money from Ohio. He also mentioned that he would would understand if Albin went to a place like Rice, though. Not sure if that means Albin is a candidate at either of those places, but Godfrey usually has his ear to the ground in coaching circles during the carousel, so interesting that Albin was brought up when talking about those two.

Bobby Petrino is a finalist for the Charlotte job and rumored to be their #1 choice (he was in town to interview today). Announcement expected to be made in 24-48 hours (regardless of who it is). local motorcycle dealers are standing by.

he’s officially pulled his name. timing was to have new coach midweek so guess is he wasn’t offered and is getting ahead of announcement. will see who they select. Albins name in background but not hot and timing makes zero sense.

I have to think Albin's age is going to hold him back from some of these jobs. He's turning 60 by next season. While not JoePa or Bill Snyder old, I can't imagine a lot of people knocking their doors down for someone who may not be coaching much longer.

Honestly, most newly hired coaches don't seem to last 5 years. Why not hire someone who is 60?

Well there’s this thing called age discrimination to start with. But then, based sort of on that, folks think that younger coaches can identify with the players better, and can withstand the 11 -12 months of work trying to put together and keep together your team and coaches. It’s a year round job more than ever, everyone involved says. It seems to me that Albin is a “young” 59 year old and can do the work it takes. This season should particularly gain him more interest with his record and ability to prosper in the new transfer/NIL environment.

I have no idea what Albin thinks about staying in Athens his remaining years, but there absolutely has to be some interest by G-5 teams looking for a new coach based on his record the past 3 years.

FWIW-there were 16 coaches 61 and over to start the year- 6 have retired or been fired. 2 of the 16 have taken new jobs! So they’re still being hired.

He has absolutely shown that he can do the job. That said, he'd be crazy to move for a different G5 job, at least, not without a huge jump in pay, thought I'd certain understand moving for P4 money. At Ohio, he's earned respect and credibility, and he has a little staying power. Let's say that his next few seasons are all 6-6. He could withstand a few of those at Ohio without people calling for his head. At some other school, starting from scratch, that's not necessarily true.

Remember, at Ohio, Albin is #2 all time in winning percentage at .627, ahead of Solich and everyone else except Don Peden. When he wins two more games, which he could do this year, he'll pass Grobe to move into 5th place in total wins behind Peden, Solich, Hess, and Widdoes.

Ohio's administration needs to get Coach Albin's contract solidified ASAP! This university is very fortunate to have him leading these young men.

A lot of innuendo out there that Charles Huff is leaving Marshall for conference foe Southern Miss. That would be wild enough, but the Herd plays for the Sun Belt title on Saturday.

Reminds me of when John L. Smith left Louisville for Michigan State in the middle of a bowl game against, incidentally, Marshall.

That's exactly the nice thing about the auto-renewal after 8 wins. They don't need to constantly renegotiate his contract. He has earned job security, and because of the auto-renewal, he has it.

Yes but just renewing at a small increase doesn’t make him any less hire able by any other G-5 program that pays 1-1.5 million a year. In spite of him making more than our university president, salaries in the coaching business are high and moving higher. Name me another G-5 2 time coach of the year with 29 wins and counting in the past 3 years who’s making under 1mil.

That was my point at the time the auto-renewal was granted. If he didn't win 8, he didn't deserve a renewal year, and his contract would run out. If he did, the minimum he deserved was job security. Having an auto-renewal just means that he has job security, and thus, hopefully isn't out actively looking for somewhere where he can get job security. Ohio can still make a deal to give him a new contract, if they choose to, or a deal to match a competitive offer, if they choose to.

Personally, I think G5 programs think completely wrong about coaching salaries.

In professional sports, the best small market teams are able to compete because they understand how to develop low-cost assets and sell them for profit. Our coaching contracts should not be designed to try and keep up with P5 salaries -- we can't -- and they shouldn't even be designed to keep our most successful coaches for as long as possible. They should be designed to make substantial money in the transaction when a P5 team hires a coach away.

Hopefully every auto-extension gets baked into a buy-out for the university.

I certainly hope they put that into the last contract.

That's an interesting development. Big raise in pay on the table? Certainly would have a lot of good opportunities down the road if he can get that program back on track. They were a strong and steady program through the 90s and 2000s from all I can remember.

This would actually be a good move for all parties involved, as I'm not sure Marshall is really all that excited about keeping him. They were 3-3 at one point this season (the loss to former FCS rival Georgia Southern really made people mad) and the already hot seat started turning up a notch. Then they go on a 6-game win streak. Go figure.

His win percentage at Marshall is .542, while his predecessor, Doc Holliday, who was at .612, was not retained.

Belechick to UNC? (lol)

That would be insane, but I can't even remotely imagine it. Hard to picture him dealing with kids asking for NIL money to play for him.
