Couldn't we have declined this bowl and went to St. Pete and play Miss St?
GONE! Yikes!!! Hope you're not an OU grad. If so, diplomas from Ohio's first and finest just became devalued a bit. Help me out OCF and squared.

I was actually going to try to make the bowl game if we were selected for the Miami Beach Bowl. I attended the GMAC bowl in Mobile and had a great time, but it's not a place a want to revisit. The people of Mobile were very gracious and the parade was a blast, but the stadium and atmosphere had the feel of a high school football game. I'll just do the tickets for kids and watch the game on tv this time.

Kinda bummed by the reactions here. Mobile has been a faithful bowl partner for a long time and we're managing to sound like a group of entitlement children.

Mobile welcomed the MAC when it was a one-bowl league without a game. The city doesn't half-ass a single aspect of the bowl experience.

The date is a tough go, but those that can make it will have a great time. Wish I was one of them.

Can anyone explain to me exactly what we have displayed as a fan base to be demanding better?

Most insightful post of the month/year. Pete's first to paragraphs are on the money. The first time we played there was a great experience. I measure that by the number of stories that my friends and I still tell (golf two days without a drop of rain, diner "dinners" at 1:30 in the morning and, well you get the point). Point three is the deal breaker - way too close to Christmas for those with children and grand children. And finally, we show up in Cleveland but that's because we live there - alumni, students, and fans.

Nice post Pete and it was good to see you and Tim Burke in Mobile the first time.

+1 Big-time agree! I really don't understand all the vitriol directed at this game. OK, so it's not Miami and I understand the ease of connection getting there. But Mobile is great town and everyone that does go will have a great time. It's got a great bar scene and some some very good golf courses. Does it get better than that????

Like Alan said, Dec. 23rd is tough. But, the plus is Ohio's playing at 8:00 pm on a Friday night on ESPN, it's the only football game on TV that evening. The visibility doesn't get much better than that. And Troy is a good team-had they beaten Georgia State yesterday they might have ended the year ranked. So we're facing a damn good team, as we all should remember.

Tough draw for a Dec 23rd game. We had a fun time last time in Mobile, but I was hoping for Miami Bowl because pretty sure I could make it work. I just can't justify traveling on Christmas Eve and dealing either with outragous airfare prices or a 13 hour + drive on Christmas Eve.

If they would have gotten into the Miami Beach Bowl it would have been an entirely different story.

Pretty sure The Rose Bowl was not an option. And our opponent is much higher ranked than we are.

Jesus Christ, people. Can we just, like, enjoy football for once?

It's a bowl game. For those who can make it, have fun! For those who can't, have fun! The outcome will have virtually no impact on your holiday season.

Want to support your school? Fine. Take the money you would have spent on the trip to Miami and donate it to the OBC.

Or do you just want to go to Florida in December? Nothing's stopping you. Go!

Go Bobcats. Beat Troy.

Disappointed for the Band, especially those a long way from Athens.

Likely the buses leaving immediately after the game. Getting back to Athens just in time to have your parent waste their 24th going to pick up daughter/son and driving another 3 hours to get home. That is unless of course you are a bandsman living out of state. Then I do not know how you make it home for Christmas without anxiety and undue cost. Not to mention it is winter and who knows the driving conditions.

Not much better for the coaches and players but at least their play is the result of Going Bowling.

The Dollar General bowl is the #1 bowl for the MAC. They have the longest relationship and have the highest payout of the bowls associated with the conference. Therefore, they get their choice of MAC teams. Obviously WMU was off the table this year. So they selected us S the team they want. They know we will not fill the stands. But hey have Troy for that. Therefore they were looking for the best team. They feel it is us. We can't turn it down. That is not how it works.

Yahtzee.

Fire ants aside, mobile was a great place to have a bowl. Warm weather, nice downtown, liberal open container policies, good food, atmosphere, Parade, etc, All about the bowl for two days. I really loved the date when it was after new year's. 12/23 is terrible. Just. Awful.

Agreed DCF, the 23rd blows. But at least we're on ESPN at prime time on a Friday.

The bowl parade is also big, so I'm sure having the 110 also was a factor.

Not a clue. Date is not ideal for any of us.

Our university is going to be bussing our students down most likely... South Alabama plays in that stadium and we had 16 busses that took students Down for a week day game... we had over 30,000 in attendance for that rivalry game... last time we played in this bowl we had nearly 40k and a sell out.

Two days before Christmas, we'll be lucky to sell 400.
I hope there is a tickets for kids program as there has been in years past.

I see a lot of positives to sending kids who otherwise would not have an opportunity to attend a college football game to OUr bowl game. Beyond giving kids this opportunity, it shows future bowl games that our fans support the program and will sell tickets from our allotment.

I am curious how this program is administered. I'd love to donate an extra $5-$10 dollars a ticket to give the kids a Bobcats t-shirt.

I believe that with programs such as this, there is no way we only sell 400 tickets.

The money doesn't really mater . Fairly sure the MAC teams have to split it equally.

First how many paragraphs? To? Too? Two?

C'mon, Alan. What does this say about a Muskingum College education. I might have to have my daughter cross Muskingum off her list of potential colleges for next year.

At least you typically get "lose" v. "loose" correct. Might have to work with your buddy, BillyTheCat, on this pair of "loose" homophones.

Is that enough help?

The last time we played Troy, we got destroyed. Ohio's staff had to go down to Troy in the offseason and learn how to coach football. I hope the Trojan staff doesn't remember what they told Frank before the 23rd.

It is equally split. But it does make the bowl the first to pick from MAC teams. It doesn't mean we make more money.

Out of curiosity, was that before or after the 35-3 loss at home to Arkansas State???

Before. That's when we dropped out of it..

That was a weird game. Worst performance of the season by far. It's like after we beat App State the team was out of gas and figured we would roll over them.

5 days between those two games to prepare didn't help.
