We meet again. Looking forward to the game. Hope you guys bring a good crowd!

Let me know if you need restaurant pointers. Mobile is basically in our back yard.

Thanks for the greetings. Personally, I can't make the game this year because of the change of date that started last year. Christmas and family plans conflict with all bowls, except those in late December or January. Any idea why they changed the date of this bowl so drastically?

Not a clue. Date is not ideal for any of us.

Our university is going to be bussing our students down most likely... South Alabama plays in that stadium and we had 16 busses that took students Down for a week day game... we had over 30,000 in attendance for that rivalry game... last time we played in this bowl we had nearly 40k and a sell out.

Wow! Two days before Christmas, we'll be lucky to sell 400. With Christmas on Sunday this year, lots of kids go to school until Wednesday the 22nd. At least it will be on ESPN so we should have pretty high production values which makes all the difference in the viewing from home experience.

As a student currently enrolled here at OU, you couldn't pay me to go watch the Dollar General Bowl in Alatucky..
If they would have gotten into the Miami Beach Bowl it would have been an entirely different story.

There won't be much interest in Bobcat fans going to Bama.. I was hoping for Miami - against Houston or Tulsa. Heck I would rather play Miss St. In St Petersburg .

I will say, Mobile is a much better city and Bowl than Montgomery.

You really don't know much about the history of mobile, do you? And, apparently not much about Kentucky, either, or you won't use that slur.

Tropicana Field smells like mold. I hate that place. Miami can have it.

The history of mobile will be more intriguing to 18-21 years olds over warm weather and a beach?

Wow! Fan of the year right here!

First of all, you do realize that Mobile is a great location in the Gulf Coast region right?

Second, It may be called the "Dollar General" Bowl this year, but I hope you realize that this is a bowl game that has been around for a while.

Third, support your school!

Sorry, this type of thing drives me nuts! I faithfully attended every game in college... during the Knorr years! Would have loved an opportunity like this!

Yes, you're right. I should waste my time going to Alabama 2 days before Christmas to go watch the best team of the MAC East (the worst division in major college football) play against Troy?.
No thanks.

+1 If I had an opportunity like this I would take the chance. Trying to see if the wife and I can make the trip right now as we speak.

Hell, maybe next year we'll get lucky and play in the maxipad bowl in Fargo. That one would be even more enticing! "Haven't you ever heard of the production Fargo?! So much history here!"

You realize your team lost to us in a bowl 48-21, 5 years ago. And that we were ranked in the AP top 25 a few weeks ago?

Ps meant this message for the guy who was semi dogging Troy

That's your opinion and thats fine. But Mobile is like a smaller version of New Orleans. I went to the New Orleans bowl against Troy. Yes the game wasn't the best but the experiences gained I still appreciate to this day. I'd take advantage of the experience if I could but to be fair to each their own.

No one's slighting Troy, they're just mad about literally every other aspect of the bowl.

EDIT: saw your clarification

I'm happy we're going to a bowl, but this one poses a logistical nightmare for anyone who does want to attend. A night game on 12/23 means you're traveling back on Christmas Eve with outrageous prices. Mobile only has direct flights to Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, DFW, and Houston, so you have to hope connections work in your favor. Otherwise you'd have to drive from New Orleans or Atlanta.

I was really hoping for the Miami Beach Bowl. I would have been able to make that one with only missing one day of work.

I'm pumped. Troy is a solid team this year and it looks like I SHOULD be able to make this game on my way down to the Ft Myers, FL area for Christmas and New Years.

I'll take any chance I can get to support my Cats.

Great explanation, Tyler.

Many positives to this bowl -- primary league tie-in, very good opponent who will bring fans and a host city that knows how to treat the visiting teams well. It's just one that I can't do due to the date and cost. The Miami Beach Bowl this year and Boca Raton Bowl last year would've worked well for me for the reasons you note.

Welcome, British.

I attended the Mobile bowl when it was the GMAC Bowl in 2007. Had a great time. Mobile is a good bowl host city. It's large enough to have whatever you need, but small enough that the game doesn't get swallowed up in a huge metro area. The local residents there take pride in this bowl, and they are very welcoming to teams coming in from outside the region.

The stadium is nice sized for a bowl on this level.

We got a really tough draw in Troy. Don't wanna have a repeat of the last matchup with Troy.

Couldn't we have declined this bowl and went to St. Pete and play Miss St?
