Yep because it's pretty difficult to participate in something if you're not eligible.

Didn't 'millions' of ineligible people participate in a recent election? ;-)

Actually it means 5 wins in some cases.

I don't think that's true. Teams may go to a bowl, occasionally, with five wins, even though they aren't eligible. Thus "bowl eligible" and "bowl streak" are slightly different. Some teams may occasionally be eligible and not go, while other teams may go, but not be eligible.
When is the last time a MAC team went to a bowl with 5 wins?

Putting on my best Monroe face - not since we won our last MAC championship.

You can be allowed a special waiver to do something you aren't actually eligible for. At this point, it's semantics. In any case, even if a team actually went to a bowl with a 5-7 record, I wouldn't consider that to be part of a "bowl eligible" streak, though I would consider it to be a part of a "bowl participation" streak. If you want to count differently, you are welcome to.

Bringing this back to Monroe himself, I've been in communication with Monroe and he asked that I post the information below.

He notes that his suspension was without specific request from the moderators to gear back, without notice, without meaningful explanation from the moderators, and without chance to respond. He believes that the moderator's sole explanation of "Enough was enough" is so shapeless as to be impossible to respond to.

He believes that he has not threadjacked anymore than anyone else on this board
Can't help but laugh at the above statement ... I think a more accurate comment would be that he threadjacked more than all other posters combined!
Not BA eligible.......

From the Ohio Valley .... Follansbee is north of Wheeling, I'm south of both. But have been thru Lou Holtz' old stomping grounds plenty of times.

Does anyone else see the irony of this entire thread? There are a few guys using 1,000 character quote boxes to continue making the same point over and over. Can someone tell me how things are different with Monroe absent?

Also, we have not won a MAC title since before I was born. Bowl eligibility is nice, but I would love to drive back from Detroit happy once in my lifetime. Imagine how hollow our basketball fandom would be with a bunch of 20 win seasons and zero NCAA tournament appearances over the past two decades. The Advocare Bowl is about as interesting to me as the CIT or CBI.

Yorkville? Ferry? Bellaire? Powhattan? Wheeling? (Just had to continue the ol' oil tender's information trail.)

Opps, I had misplaced Follansbee in my head, thinking it was slightly south of Wheeling rather than north. I have some distant relatives who live there. I'm glad the old Army rice paddy grunt knows his panhandle geography. He's old enough he might remember when the Restored Government of Virginia was located in Wheeling. ;-)

Don't want to not represent the Rt 2 side of the Ohio River :-)

He notes that his suspension was without specific request from the moderators to gear back, without notice, without meaningful explanation from the moderators, and without chance to respond. He believes that the moderator's sole explanation of "Enough was enough" is so shapeless as to be impossible to respond to.

He notes that not a single person claims to have gone back and read his posts in order to verify if the suspension is just and not a single person has posted words from a single of his posts in support of the various claims in this thread-- but believes that if they had, and considered them in light of all other posts on this board, then they would find his posts are well within what others post here and his suspension is, thus, unjust as it applies a standard to him which no others here face.

He believes that he has not bullied or baited or trolled according to the definition of those terms. He believes that he has not threadjacked anymore than anyone else on this board, claiming that his posts about Solich are almost always in threads related to the team's performance and prospects and his volume of posts is in no way excessive compared to others and reasonable discussion.

He notes this very thread as carrying, as some have acknowledged, some of the traits for which he has been pilloried. He believes that his suspension is basically because he has the wrong opinion.

He asked me to carry these thoughts to you because he found it interesting that it was suggested that he apologize but notes that, even if he were so inclined, he has absolutely no way of doing so since his only ability to communicate is via email to those few members of this board for whom he has an email address.
This is delightfully surreal. As if he's Napoleon exiled and writing from Elba -- except writing upon an extra piece of cat luggage.

Monroe is gone? I was going to buy a "Doggie Bag" from his website he used to promote on all of his posts.

This is lame. Bring back Monroe.

Other posters are just as monotonous...though perhaps less single minded in their focus.

Regardless, he deserves a second chance.

Brian Smith in light of your Napoleon Elba post, it seems some on the board want to rescue him from his exile and bring him back to Paris for the fateful march to Waterloo.

I personally am for keeping Monroe around. He was boorish at times, but less inflammatory than some.

I have been on this board for a while, I remember real trollers like 3 Ball, he deserved to be kicked off. Monroe was a little different, he wanted change and was attacked and in response he hijacked a lot of threads, which was probably annoying to a lot of people. I wish that he could have been given guidelines and followed them. The guidelines cannot be stick to the topic, because all of our threads go off topic, this is an example of a thread that went off topic. Maybe we can grow our tolerance and also get a new and improved Monroe.
