I have been on this board for a while, I remember real trollers like 3 Ball, he deserved to be kicked off. Monroe was a little different, he wanted change and was attacked and in response he hijacked a lot of threads, which was probably annoying to a lot of people. I wish that he could have been given guidelines and followed them. The guidelines cannot be stick to the topic, because all of our threads go off topic, this is an example of a thread that went off topic. Maybe we can grow our tolerance and also get a new and improved Monroe.
There are guidelines.

I count at least four (flames, baiting, product promotion, and politics) that Monroe pretty much continuously violated. Ted, Jeff, and Ryan are lenient, IMO, as far as policing goes, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on this decision. It's their site.

I miss our wrestling villain opponent fans around here. We had MH55, an Akron guy, a Miami guy, a Buffalo guy. They even took on the persona of wrestling heels. It was great.

I don't knock their decision, I just believe that Monroe's intentions were to make point and be humorous. We have a pretty sensitive group. If someone questions the coacing or someones performance. We go to this, they are fine student athletes, which is not what is being debated. I love people like L.C., he debates and embraces your difference of opinion and offers his rebuttal with data. I have also seen people almost cry, when you said a team could do better.

I don't mind if someone says we can be doing better after certain performances. People are entitled to opinions. It becomes a problem, though, when someone does it after every game, even when there are great performances, and then insults everyone who disagrees. It gets old when it drags on season after season. It gets even worse when it starts up before the season even begins. He got what he deserved.

If I recall correctly, Monroe was kicked off of this board several years ago so he has had his chance, twice now, and chose to ignore the rules of civil discussion. I believe our moderators have been quite tolerant over the years.

I am perfectly fine with Monroe's opinions. In fact, I think it's good to have people on that board with those opinions. The problem was that he changed the topic of every thread to his point, even when it was not relevant to the discussion.

As C. Money correctly pointed out, it can not be questioned that he also broke other rules, such as promoting products, and making political posts on a regular and ongoing basis. I'm sure that both probably factored into the decision, and I know that a political thread he had going in Siberia was deleted entirely at the same time he disappeared.

I'm really, really late to this discussion. The reason I'm so late is that I've been a longtime forum-lurker and never made an account. Eventually I stopped reading the forums, probably two years ago.

The reason I left and the reason that I'm here today is Monroe. I come here for fun, if I'm not having fun, I don't show up. So I stopped showing up.

I thought I'd check in the forums randomly today and I was amazingly pleasantly surprised. Thoughtful discussion, no personal attacks, no demands for Frank's head on a platter. The tone of posts have changed overwhelmingly for the better.

Sure, sometimes I'm frustrated with a predictable offense and deflating losses, but do I think Frank and or staff should be fired? Nope, not right now, I think they're doing a pretty good job, according to my 20 years of following Bobcat football.

Do I think that people are wrong for wanting to replace him? Yeah, but it's a legit viewpoint. The thing is, who do you get? Who would do a better job. Solich is dependable, dedicated, and consistent. I'm not going to trade that for a flash in the pan coach that is gone the first chance they get.

Do I want a championship, you bet. Do I want more wins, absolutely. But back to Monroe. If I'm out of line here I can edit or remove this post.

He is free to express his opinion in the public square. This is not the public square. The forum rules are quite clear. In one of his final comments he calls everyone that disagrees with him "SFB Solich supporters". Calling people "S*** For Brains" is 100% not acceptable. Just like asking someone if they're delusional is unacceptable. That's an intimidation tactic, not a debate tactic for civil discussion.

That said, there are lots of people on here that have constructive criticism of the 'Cats, and I greatly respect their opinions. They're almost always right. Things can always be better. But I see the Solich Era as a golden age of Ohio football.

The thing is, Monroe stopped being a fan. He rejoiced in losses, and bemoaned wins. He was rooting against the Bobcats to prove his point. He cared more about his platform than seeing the Bobcats succeed.

I'm bumping this thread to relate to everyone that the site has improved. Current threads are decent, respectable and well reasoned, with positive and constructive discussion. Opposing viewpoints are debated, not shouted out. Negativity is down, civility is up. Therefore I am a new user as of today. I am here because Monroe is not.

Agree. If you disagreed with Monroe .... great.

But are you any better than him (as you say) for taking cheap shots at him?

You could've easily joined the discussion and just ignored his posts and not get dragged into a debate with him.

It's your computer/cell phone/etc ... you have the option to ignore something or comment on it.

With that being said ... welcome.

But I hope that you don't take it personal when people disagree with your thoughts.

This is a message board ... it's not a pep rally for Ohio. People will be on both sides of the fence on things. It just so happens Monroe went a little too far according to those in charge.

No need to bring it up months later.

Felt like that was dead and buried.

Is it a low blow or just an opinion? I've shared this story with a couple of people over the years but kept it private. Years ago I disagreed with Monroe on some point (I don't even remember what it was or if it was basketball or football) but he then started trolling me on PM. There was nothing personal in the original discussion but the IM's from him were completely personal and were attacks. I just ignored them at first but they continued for a while. It got to the point where I just stopped posting in the football forum and ignored his posts in the basketball forum (which invariably ended up working the discussion back to Frank). I don't remember who I shared my concerns with amongst the higher ups here but the last PM I received from him was in 2010 mocking me for joining Dragon's fantasy basketball league. You can call this a low blow because he's not here to defend himself but he's much more than just an annoying poster to me.

Not a pep rally, I just choked from laughing. Classic

Wow! Pretty low blow if you ask me. Never posted before and then your first post is months after a guy has been booted from the board and you criticize a guy who can't even defend himself. Pretty weak. Go back to lurking.
That's obviously a problem. Sucks it got to that. I had a few IM interactions, but nothing got personal. Sorry to hear it

Agreed on that Van. That's too bad. My PMs to and from Monroe were always civil. On a related note, despite all the criticism I would wage $100 that Monroe contributed more money to OU than 95% of the anonymous posters on this fan site.

I don't consider anything in this post "low blows". Welcome to the board.

I don't either. He didn't get abusive. He just explained why he left before, and why he has joined now. Now, if he would continue to berate Monroe, that would be low blows, but if, now that he has given his reason for not posting previously, he moves beyond that, and starts talking football with the rest of us, great. I welcome him to BA, and hope his first post isn't his last.

It doesn't matter how much or how little one contributes to this fine university. Evidently people on this website got tired of all the negative posts from this poster. Some posters think it there purpose in life to bash certain coaches or programs just because they give a donation to the university. This website shouldn't be all about bashing or wanting to see a certain coach or staff members lose their job. Although some posters love posting only the negative things that go on with the football or athletics program. There are plenty of positives to share also. How many of us would like to be criticized daily in our workplace? Enjoy each win the Bobcats achieve and cheer them on to another win next week!

Have you changed your definition of "low blow," Alan, in just a few hours?

Well played OCF. Hello Hypocrisy. Just to recap.

He literally started off saying he is very late to the party, and explained why he was so late...he wasn't here. He then gave a clear explicit purpose for his post...to commend/reassure the moderators for their decision with Monroe, and compliment our online community for the quality of discussions we have.

And then you swooped in and crapped on everything he said.
